AACN Awards: Current Calls for Nominations
Policy Luminary Award
The Policy Luminary Award was established by AACN in 2009 to annually recognize an outstanding registered nurse and national
leader for his or her public policy achievements. The first recipient of the award was Dr. Mary Wakefield, Administrator of the Health
Resources and Services Administration. Dr. Wakefield’s extensive career in nursing and health policy exemplifies the spirit of the
AACN Policy Luminary Award. The award is presented annually at the AACN Fall Semiannual Meeting. Each nomination package
should include two letters of recommendation from peers, the nominee’s CV, and a one-page bio. Nominations should be submitted
electronically to Lauren Inouye at linouye@aacn.nche.edu. Nominations are due by 5:00 pm ET, Monday, September 16, 2013.
Outstanding Dissertation and Capstone Awards
This AACN awards program showcases outstanding dissertations and capstone projects completed by students in research- and
practice-focused doctoral programs. Two awards will be presented at AACN’s annual Doctoral Education Conference, in Naples,
Florida, held January 29–February 1, 2014:
• Excellence in Advancing Nursing Science Award for an outstanding dissertation from a student in a PhD in nursing, DNS, or
DNSc program. A dissertation is an original research project that focuses on advancing nursing science and developing new
evidence with the potential to guide nursing practice.
• Excellence in Advancing Nursing Practice Award for an outstanding capstone project from a student in a Doctor of Nursing
Practice (DNP) program. A capstone project demonstrates high-level mastery of an area of advanced nursing practice and focuses
on the translation of evidence into practice.

MERCER UNIVERSITY
Seeking part-time instructors who have a Master of
Science in Nursing with experience in medical/surgical and
gerontology. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate

Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University
invites applications for two faculty positions available for Fall
2013. Rank and salary are commensurate with professional
qualifications and experience. The candidate will preferably
demonstrate expertise with adult health or nurse practitioner
(family or acute care) but specialty background in pediatrics,
maternal-child health or mental health will also be considered.
The successful candidates’ primary responsibilities will be
individualized. The responsibilities may include teaching across
undergraduate (pre-licensure and RN-BSN) and graduate
(MSN) curricula, as well as serving on College/University
committees, and participating in official activities of the College
and University. Faculty will be expected to contribute to the
advancement of the nursing profession and higher education
through scholarship and research.
The College of Nursing is a dynamic college within Mercer
University, and is located in a beautiful facility on a 300 acre,
wooded campus in Atlanta. Mercer University’s traditional campus
is located approximately 100 miles south of Atlanta in Macon,
Georgia. The College of Nursing enjoys affiliations with most of
the health care agencies within a 50 mile radius of the campus.
We seek faculty who share our goal of providing a distinctive

Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited university/
college is required. Earned doctorate in nursing or a related
discipline is highly desirable. Candidates must hold or be eligible
for an unencumbered Georgia RN license and preferably
advanced practice certification in Georgia. Baccalaureate
and graduate teaching experience with a proven record of
distinguished teaching and scholarship is preferred. Curriculum
development experience in graduate education and/or online
teaching experience is desirable.

UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY
Assistant Professor of Nursing
(two positions available) The Department of Biology at Utah State University

in nursing at the Assistant Professor level (85% teaching, 10%
professional engagement, and 5% service) at USU EasternPrice. The successful candidates will work with current faculty
in the Nursing Program teaching both theory and clinical
classes in the ASD Nursing Program. A graduate degree in

WILSON COLLEGE
Director, Nursing Program (Start-up)
Wilson College, a liberal arts college that offers innovative
and academically rigorous programs, including in the sciences,
seeks a Director/ ranked faculty member in Nursing to launch
and administer a high quality, accredited, online RN to BSN
program. The successful candidate will be an energetic leader
with a doctorate in Nursing or a related field who is eligible
for licensure in PA.
Desirable qualities include: the knowledge of and ability
to achieve appropriate accreditation; the ability to establish
and successfully implement innovative curricula; and the
capacity to recruit and develop talented faculty. Teaching
experience and background in higher education are necessary.
This is a 12-month position.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for
Department Chair, Psychosocial Nursing, School of Nursing.
PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

The School of Nursing at UNLV offers CCNE-accredited programs leading to a BSN, MS (nurse practitioner and nurse educator tracks), DNP, and PhD (educator and health sustainability

expertise) and Psychosocial Nursing (for 14 faculty with maternal,

ROLE of the POSITION
The School invites applicants for a 12-month position to serve as
Chair of the Psychosocial Nursing Department, an important
member of the Dean’s leadership team. The multidisciplinary faculty members are seeking an inspirational leader to empower them
to meet the School’s teaching, scholarship, and service missions.
In addition to the usual teaching and research responsibilities, the
administrative responsibilities of this appointment are to: (1)
Guide faculty members in role and career development, goal
attainment, and in seeking promotion or tenure; (2) Make workload and teaching assignments; (3) Orient new faculty members
and part-time instructors; (4) Evaluate faculty performance; (5)
Meet faculty resource needs through budget management and
assignment of space; (6) Make hiring and adjunct appointment
recommendations to the Dean; (7) Represent the School in appropriate University, state, regional, and national venues.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate or Full Professor: Senior level nursing faculty member, currently tenured at the Associate or Full Professor rank,
holding a record of externally-funded research. The individual
must also hold or be qualified to hold a Nevada RN license.
Preference will be given to those with administrative experience.
