What is the Capital Artists’ Studio Tour?
The Capital Artists’ Studio Tour is an easy way for people to see art where it is made,
to buy art directly from the artists, and to experience art in our community. It is FREE
to tour goers and gives our local artists a chance to share their art from the intimate
environment of their own studios.
The Capital Artists’ Studio Tour was started in 2006 by the Center for Contemporary
Art, Sacramento’s then board member, Cheryl Holben. The Tour began as a small tour
of only a handful of woman artist studios. With Cheryl’s leadership and the Center
for Contemporary Art, Sacramento’s support, the Tour has grown to where it is today
– with over 150 participating artists, endorsing sponsors, promotional partnerships,
and the attention of a continually growing art appreciating public.

Sacramento is divided into two areas for two open studio weekends. Artists
in each area open their studio doors to show the public their art and share their
creative processes.
Weekend One: Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9
Westside artists include Midtown, Downtown, Land Park and surrounding areas.
Studios are open from 10 am–5 pm.

Weekend Two: Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16
Eastside artists include East Sacramento, Tahoe Park, Carmichael and
surrounding areas. Studios are open from 10 am–5 pm.
The Tour is free. Select the artists you want to visit using the individual artist listings
printed in this guide or visit the CAST web site to choose artists by medium or location!
You can also view all participating artists’ artworks at The Center for Contemporary Art,
Sacramento in the CAST Artist Tour exhibit August 21–September 16. Every artist on
the tour will have one piece that exemplifies the work you will see in their studio at this
Tour exhibition.

The Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento (CCAS) at 1519 19th Street is the
non-profit arts entity that organizes and supports the Capital Artists’ Studio Tour.
CCAS is a member-supported non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and
appreciation of new and experimental art by international, national and regional artists.
CCAS functions as more than a contemporary art center, hosting special events
such as the Annual Benefit Art Auction, Capital Artists’ Studio Tour (CAST), monthly
lectures, and workshops for art students.
In addition to the longtime support of the public, artistic community and corporate
sponsors, CCAS has a strong and dedicated board of directors.
