FOR RELEASE: September 15, 2015 Media Contact: Jon Tashjian | 716.775.7930 | jon@19ideas.com BUFFALO CITY MISSION RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT FROM WALMART FOUNDATION’S STATE GIVING PROGRAM Funding will provide meals and kitchen supplies for impoverished men, women and children Buffalo City Mission has now received more than $638,000 in total grants for 2015 BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo City Mission received a $50,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving program to help feed underprivileged men, women and children through the Emergency Food Service Program. The money will be used to help purchase food, kitchen supplies and other tools needed to assist in meal preparation and service. With this grant, Buffalo City Mission has now received more than $638,000 in 2015 funding to help the homeless. “We are extremely grateful for this generous donation from the Walmart Foundation,” said Buffalo City Mission Executive Director and CEO Stuart L. Harper. “Through this grant, we are able to continue serving hot, nutritious meals and supplies to those in need, and advance our ongoing mission to serve the impoverished families in our community.” The grant represents the second year of funding from the Walmart Foundation, whose donations have enabled the Buffalo City Mission to provide meals to its 2,500 residents. In the last year, Buffalo City Mission has provided over 215,000 meals to its residents as well as to an estimated 3,000 impoverished individuals. “We’re proud to contribute to local groups like the Buffalo City Mission, which is dedicated to helping the most vulnerable members of society,” said Walmart Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations Jason Klipa. “This is truly selfless work that makes a real difference in a community. The Walmart foundation is committed to funding programs like this all over the country.” The Emergency Food Service provides three meals a day, 365 days a year, to hungry men, women and children in the City of Buffalo. The Homeless Coalition of Western New York’s State of Homelessness Report indicates that over 84 percent of the homeless population in Buffalo is homeless for the first or second time due to dramatic interruptions in job status or health.
