MEMA/GABs
HISTORY
Mema/GAB has its roots from the mid-1800s.
We have produced cutlery for more than 150
years and today we are the Nordic Region’s
largest, and one of Europe’s leading producers
of silver cutlery. The factory is located in
Eskilstuna and that is also where all silver
production is carried out. Skilled silversmiths
and designers have carried the tradition
forward through the years and created a
beautiful and timeless design.
1856
Gense is founded by Gustav
Eriksson. The name is an
acronym for Gustav Eriksson
Silver platedfabrik i Eskilstuna.
4
1889
Gense is registered as a
corporation and is currently
Sweden’s oldest active
corporation.
The photo is from our production in Eskilstuna in the 1960s. Employees sitting by the conveyor belt
polishing silver cutlery by hand, something we still do in our factory today.
1964
Guldsmedsaktiebolaget (GAB),
which was founded in 1867,
purchases Gense.
1982
The company has been
named as a purveyor to His
Majesty the King.
1995
KA Rasmussen acquires
Gense and the brands
Mema/GAB and Gense.
2009
Mema/GAB launches its
first silver cutlery in over 30
years - CPB 2091 designed
by Carl Philip Bernadotte.

THE CONTROL STAMP IS
YOUR GUARANTEE
As early as 1752, a law was introduced that stated that all silver products
should be control stamped in order to guarantee their authenticity.
• The signature stamp indicates who has
manufactured the object.
• The district mark states where the
object is manufactured (E=Eskilstuna).
• The control stamp guarantees the silver’s
authenticity (S=Silver.)
• The grade stamp indicates what
percentage of silver there is in the object,
830 or 925 per thousand, respectively.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
• Year designation (E11=2003).
Manufacturing silver cutlery and corpus is
precision work that takes many years to learn.
The choice of imprinting, grinding, soldering,
polishing, etc., is made by a specially educated
silversmith. A knife requires no less than fifteen
different work stages during production.
Just the stage of checking every piece of cutlery
takes at least six months to learn. The eye has
to be trained to see certain, very small reflexes
and reflections in and on the surface of the
silver. This indicates the level of our quality and
is a result of the craftsmanship tradition that
has been passed down from generation to
generation. The crafted silver in a beautiful and
timeless design is the hallmark of Mema/GAB.
7
ATMOSPHERE
Enjoy the atmosphere when friends and family
gather around the dinner table. This is where
we spend Easter, Christmas and other special
occasions together. No matter what you
are celebrating, our cutlery is guaranteed to
enhance the party atmosphere.

GAMMAL DANSK
Design: Cohr
VasA
Design: Jacob Ängman
10
Gammal Dansk is stylistically pure and simple in its design. The pattern has
existed for over 300 years and is appreciated just as much today as it was
then. It has adorned table settings for generations.
Vasa is designed by Jacob Ängman, who is one of Sweden’s most wellknown silversmiths. The Vasa dynasty’s symbol, the corn sheaf, adorns this
slender and well-weighted cutlery.
11
FINNMYRTEN Cop
Design: Oscar Strömberg
OLGA
Design: Studio GAB
12
Finnmyrten is a traditional handicraft with hand engraved decorations.
The rare and ethereal flower, finnmyrten, adorns the shaft. The cutlery is
stamped with the renowned COP-stamp, which confirms its authenticity.
Olga has romantic, billowing lines that are enclosed by an acanthus leaf on
the shaft. The cutlery is one of our most popular and classic models that
originated in the neo-rococo era of the 1800s.
13
CHIPPENDALE
Design: Studio GAB
Chippendale originates from the 1700s
and got its name from the English furniture
designer, Thomas Chippendale. The design
is soft and gracious, which is well-adapted
to both everyday table settings and
parties.
modern design
For the first time in over 30 years we have
launched a new silver cutlery line, CPB 2091,
designed by Carl Philip Bernadotte. The
Mema/GAB brand stands for the classic and
timeless. Even the new cutlery CPB 2091,
should be able to stand for a long time without
becoming old fashioned.
With the cutlery CPB 2091, Prince Carl Philip
has drawn a modern icon for the set table.
The design exhibits exciting symmetry and lets
the material speak for itself.
CPB 2091 has also been added to the National
Museum’s collection motivated by the fact
that the design has a modern shape that feels
innovative within its genre.
• CPB 2091
16
CPB 2091
Design: Carl Philip Bernadotte
The cutlery’s elegant shape combines the beautiful and
aesthetic with functional simplicity. CPB 2091 is easy to
recognize because the knife, fork and spoon share the
characteristically exact rounded shape.
Inspiration is gathered from international cities and
architecture. The cutlery adds an extra essence whether
you choose to arrange the table in a traditional or modern
and trendy setting.
18
19
Decor
Much of the cutlery’s personality lies in
the decoration. Look closely and study the
ornamentation. It requires exceptional precision from our skilled silversmiths to get every
detail exactly right.
Whether you are looking for cutlery adorned
with ornate flower petals or stylistically pure,
cutlery, we believe that you can find your
favourite in our assortment.

HERRGÅRD
Design: Cohr
Haga
Design: Studio Mema
22
Herrgård was created at the turn of the last century when the billowing Art
Nouveau designs had just had their breakthrough. The model’s decoration
at the end of the shaft looks like a royal crown.
Haga is inspired by the idyllic Haga castle and has been given the nickname
”Butterfly-winged”. A romantic cutlery with straight lines that are wellsuited to both everyday use and parties.
23
EVA
Design: Studio GAB
KUNGASILVER
Design: Jerker Wessfeldt
24
Eva has classic ornamentation with a slight violin shape. The transition
between the shaft and the blade is adorned with a beautiful flower. The
model originates from the early 1900s.
Kungasilver is decorated with the royal crown as a common feature in the
ornamentation. The three models, Victoria, Carl-Philip and Madeleine, give
a classic and ceremonial impression.
25
Patricia
Design: Studio Mema
Ingrid
Design: Studio GAB
26
Ingrid has a neo-classical simplicity in combination with rococo’s elegant
flower wreaths. The shell ornamentation lends a personal and specific
distinction to this model.
Patricia is a characteristic, romantic, neo-rococo model with shell designs
on the shaft. The sauce and serving spoons are most characteristic of the
model, which also has shell designs in the ladle.
27
Jacob Ängman
Rosenholm and Vasa
Jacob Ängman studied at the Royal Institute
of Technology in Stockholm and in 1907
he began his long and loyal employment at
Guldsmedsaktiebolaget (GAB) in Stockholm.
Jacob Ängman participated in several famous
exhibitions, including the Paris Exhibition in
1925, the Metropolitan Museum, New York
1928, and the London Exhibition 1931.
THE FACES BEHIND
THE DESIGNS
We have worked with promising designers
and silversmiths for decades. The designs and
patterns reflect the designers’ views on art and
culture as well as the genre in question.
There are many elements to take into
consideration when you are developing a new
model. The cutlery must feel good in the hand
and in the mouth. It shall have an aesthetically
attractive design and pattern. It shall be able to
function with various dishes as well as lie firmly
on the table and plate. To the right you can
read about several of our designers who have
succeeded extremely well with this.
28
Eric Löfman
Sten Sture, Uppsalamodellen and Corpus
In 1971, Eric Löfman was the fourth recipient
of the Eligius Award for his artistic efforts
within the goldsmith and silversmith industry.
His productions include a large number of
different silver objects, for example, a vase to
Prince Rainer of Monaco and the altar silver
in the Uppsala Cathedral. Eric Löfman was
active up until just before his death in 1994.
Carl Philip Bernadotte
CPB 2091
Carl Philip Bernadotte was educated as a
designer at the Rhode Island School of Design
in the US and Forsbergs Skola in Stockholm.
The silver cutlery is the first product being
launched under the brand, CPB. The figures,
2091, stand for the year 2009 and model
no.1.
29
TABLE SETTINGS
Rustic, romantic, classical or nostalgic; there are
no limitations to how you can set a table. And
who has said that everything has to match?
Mix cutlery, china and glass and make your
own highly personal table setting.
On the next pages we have selected table
settings that are adapted to the cutlery’s design
and appearance. Be inspired to do something
innovative.

OLGA ANTIQUE
Design: Studio GAB
Cheri
Design: Henning Seidelin
32
Olga Antique is an updated version of the 1800’s Olga. The idiom is the
same, but this model has an oxidized and matte surface, which gives a very
fine rustic and antique expression.
Cheri is inspired by early Mediterranean cultures, which has resulted in the
model’s leaf-ornamented top in the transition between the shaft and the
blade.
33
The Official Wedding series
Design: Studio GAB
Uppsalamodellen
Design: Eric Löfman
34
Uppsalamodellen has a modern and austere design with restrained
decoration and a shiny matte finish surface. The cutlery’s spoons have a
characteristic roundness in the scoop.
Part of the revenue from The Official Wedding Series is donated to the
Crown Princess Couple’s Wedding Foundation, which aims to prevent social
isolation and promote good health among children and youths in Sweden.

SAVOY
Design: Studio GAB
Design: Henning Seidelin
Gammal Fransk is one of our most-loved models with its roots in the
1700s. The winding acanthus leaves create the pattern “French lily” which
adorns this otherwise neo-classical cutlery.
Savoy is a cutlery that is characterised by function and simplicity. The shaft’s
vertical lines give it a 1950s look that complements retro table settings, but
naturally also fits in other contexts.
37
ENVIRONMENT
Take your silver cutlery outdoors. See the silver
glisten in the sun and how the sea is reflected
in the cutlery. Silver cutlery is far too beautiful
to lie in a bureau drawer. Show it off at a picnic,
BBQ party or a boat trip out on the sea.

Prince Albert
Symfoni
Design: Hans Scherrenbacher
Rådhus
Design: Einar Wallin
40
Rådhus was designed in the 1930s and has an austerity and pattern typical
of the era. The design has a subtle violin shape, and the grooves along the
upper shaft create a soft decorative pattern.
Symfoni got its name from the soft harmony between its violin shape and
the harmonic ornamentation. The model was designed in the beginning of
the 1900s.
41
Disa
Design: Linus Holst
birgitta
Design: Studio Mema
42
Birgitta’s design idiom is a combination of the neo-classical 1700s and the
modern 1900s. It is a cutlery with royal elegance, named after Princess
Birgitta.
Disa was designed in the 1930s and has a neo-classical spirit; cutlery with
timeless expression and discriminating decoration. The shaft has a graceful
trefoil design that is closely related to the violin form.
43
prins albert
Design: Studio GAB
Prince Albert got its name from Queen
Victoria’s husband who was a proponent
of art and culture; genuine and romantic
cutlery in neo-rococo with origins from
the 1800s.
STEN STURE
Design: Eric Löfman
TASTES
Cutlery’s primary task is to be a tool when we
eat. Have you ever realised that we use cutlery
hundreds of thousands of times every year?
When you enjoy the tastes of the food you
should also enjoy the feeling and design of the
cutlery in the mouth.

Alice
Sachsisk
Rosenholm
Sten Sture was designed by Eric Löfman, who has let the silver speak in this
unpretentious, elegant and modern cutlery. The blade of the knife is angled at
90 degrees towards the shaft, which gives the model its special character.
47
SVENSK
Design: Studio GAB
Alice
Design: Bertel Gardberg
48
Svensk is evidence of a timeless design idiom. The model originates from
the simple and plain basic model of the 1700s. A genuine Swedish model
that is very popular.
Alice enhances any table setting. It creates elegance and brings a sense of
totality to the table setting. The cutlery has pure and elegant lines that fulfil
the requirements for minimalism among those interested in design.
49
ROSENHOLM
Design: Jacob Ängman
Sachsisk
Design: Cohr
50
Sachsisk has a clear and distinctive identity thanks to the beautiful flower
ornamentation. The model was designed in the early 1900s and has Art
Nouveau influences.
Rosenholm got its inspiration from the austere and minimalistic lines of
functionalism. The shiny matte finish model is still undoubtedly modern in
its character.

Care
Certain things are hard to explain,
for example, the fact that many of
our most beautiful possessions often
live a hidden life where no one can
see them. Why do we keep jewellery
hidden in a case instead of wearing
it? And why is it that beautiful silver
cutlery is often kept at the bottom of a
kitchen drawer instead of being on the
table?
In regard to silver cutlery, it may
depend on the fact that many think it is
difficult to manage and therefore have
it hidden away for the greater part of
the year. For that reason we thought
that we would tell you a little about
how to care for it. The truth is that
not much work is required if you use
the cutlery often. All it takes is a little
consideration.
USE IT OFTEN
The more often you use the cutlery
the less care is needed. This is the best
way to preserve the wonderful shine
that only genuine silver has.
WASH IT IN THE DISHWASHER
It works perfectly well to wash your
silver cutlery in a dishwasher. Just make
sure that it is not placed close together
with stainless steel cutlery.
WASH BY HAND
Naturally, your silver cutlery can
be washed by hand with normal
dishwashing liquid.
Here are some tips...
• If you have had a dinner and want
to wash your cutlery later, let it lie dry
instead of in water.
• Exactly like glass, it is a good idea to
dry the cutlery after you have washed
it in order to avoid spots.
STOCKFISK AND EGGS
They can cause stains on silver if they
are in contact with it for a long time.
If you have used your cutlery with
stockfish and/or eggs, wash the silver
cutlery directly after the dinner to
avoid discolouration.
STORAGE
If you use your silver cutlery every day
you can store the silverware in your
ordinary kitchen drawer, just make sure
you don’t mix it with stainless steel
cutlery. Rubber bands are not silver’s
best friend since they can cause stains.
If you prefer to use your silver cutlery
every now and then, you can store the
cutlery in a case or cutlery roll, which
you can purchase in your jewellery
shop. Visit www.memagab.se for more
information.
