Congratulations Noelle! For further information, please go to the NAIG website: http://regina2014naig.com/about/aboutus/ Principal’s Message By: Mr. Michael Adams First Semester is ending soon. Final exams are approaching quickly. In-class exams will be Thursday, January 23, for A & B Blocks and Friday, January 24, for C & D Blocks. Many students will have provincial exams to write during the week of January 27-31. Our provincial exams begin at 8:30 and 12:00 each day. Students are reminded to check with teachers, counsellors or administration regarding provincial exam schedules. Students are also reminded to ensure they bring all the necessary equipment to the exams. You would be shocked by the number of students who show up without calculators, pens and pencils to write their exams. Help your child(ren) prepare for their final exams: Sleep, rest and healthy nutrition help the brain to function. Ensure your child(ren) get(s) lots of sleep and healthy food prior to exams. Set aside a quiet time during the day where everyone at home is reading and students are studying. Research clearly demonstrates that students who establish routines for work and study do better on their exams. Turn off the electronics. Start early. Generate questions for students to ask their teachers. Do this in a timely fashion as last minute, “panic” questions seldom get answered and students seldom learn well enough to respond on a test. Monday February 3th is the first day of semester two. Students will pick up their semester two schedules from a morning homeroom and then be off to classes immediately. It is a full day as we hit semester two running. Students need to see their counsellors during exam week if they are seeking changes to their schedule. Parents and students are advised, however, that staffing is tight and classes are large so changes may not be possible. We cannot oversize classes. Waitlists may apply. Students who are writing provincial exams will note that their report cards will not have their combined final mark listed. The mark on the report card is their class mark at the end of semester. The provincial tests are not marked until the end of February so the students’ final mark has not been determined by the time report cards are distributed. Students will need to check on-line to see their final mark. Please visit the Ministry of Education website to access the student secure web https:// www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/ Students will need their 9 digit Personal Education Number (PEN) to access. Semester one has been fantastic. We look forward to a successful second semester. We encourage you to remain active in the education of your children. Contact their teachers early in the semester to discuss how you can support their educational progress. Clear communication between home and school is a critical factor in student success. As always please do not hesitate to contact teachers, counsellors, or administration should you have any questions or concerns. LOST AND FOUND Our lost and found bin is overflowing. If your child has lost an item of clothing or other miscellaneous items, please have him/her come to the office to see whether it is in the bin. We will be emptying the bin at the end of the month and donating items to charity. Page 2 Correlieu Secondary Newsletter GRADE 12’S The following students have not yet submitted grad write-ups. The Correlieu Players are excited to be presenting this year’s musical “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr”, a show for the whole family. April 9 - 12 in the Chuck Mobley Theatre. Doors open at 7:00 pm Tickets: Adults $10 Students / Seniors $8 Subway Promotion Correlieu has been given a great opportunity to raise monies for sports teams, school clubs, or any other organization/group within our school. Every group is struggling with the cost of their programs or initiatives and here is one of the best ways to make easy money. Every sports team member and every student, in any school organization, has access to the Subway "Peel and Stick" cards. Each card sells for ten dollars ($10.00). The Subway card has seventy dollars ($70.00) worth of discount coupons on it. You basically get 11 free 6" sub sandwiches. You also get ten dollars ($10.00) off any Sandwich Platter. All twelve coupons are good until the end of June, 2014. These coupons can be used at any Subway Restaurant in British Columbia. As stated earlier the Subway Promotion is a way to make easy money. The cost to the school is minimal. We have to pay BC School Sports two dollars ($2.00) for each of these coupons. In turn we sell them for ten dollars ($10.00). This means that we get to keep eight dollars ($8.00) from each sale. The school purchased one thousand (1000) Subway Cards. When we sell them all we will have raised eight thousand dollars ($8000.00) for our Programs. This is money that will go directly to your son or daughter's team, school group or organization to help offset costs. Correlieu is not holding back any of the profits. They are all going to the individual groups. If you want more information you are encouraged to contact the leader of your son or daughter's team, school group or organization. If you don't have a child in any of the programs that might be participating in this fund raiser and would like to buy some Subway Cards or have any questions about this promotion please feel free to contact Mr. McGregor at Correlieu.
