Hourly Paid Lecturer: Classical Guitar
Location:
Based at 61 Westminster Bridge Road Site. The post-holder
may be required to carry out duties at other College sites.
Grade:
H (currently £31.18 incl. of holiday pay and preparation time
per hour).
Hours of work:
3.5 hours per week (see ‘The Post’)

Job Purpose
To plan, design, deliver, assess, evaluate and manage classroom activities within the
designated subject area(s), in order to maintain the highest levels of quality assurance in the
teaching, learning and assessment of students.
Main Responsibilities
1. To teach the stipulated number of hours per week in a flexible and creative way, utilising
ILT as appropriate and meeting both the needs of the learners and the course
requirements. Deputise for absent colleagues as and when the need arises.
2. Follow College and Departmental quality assurance procedures by maintaining up-todate group profile, course outline forms, lesson plans, schemes of work, assessments of
learner’s progress and achievement, evaluation data on course activities and tutor course
reports.
3. Undertake course administration including maintaining a course register and checking
learners’ enrolment status.
4. Provide induction and advice and information to learners on the requirements of the
course programme and possible progression routes.
5. Work co-operatively with the Curriculum area including supporting the PM/CAM in
promotional and marketing activities for the Department and the courses that you teach
and participating in departmental curriculum development on a yearly basis.
6. To keep up to date in your specialist area, and seek to develop new skills in response to
changes.
7. To, where appropriate assist in the preparation of learners for entry into relevant
examinations.
General

To attend relevant training and meetings as required.

To be committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), keeping up-to-date
and meeting any annual requirement for CPD required of you professionally.

To contribute to the effective management and promotion of safeguarding and equality
and diversity, this includes using teaching materials and methods that are relevant to a
diverse student group.

To work in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and College safeguarding
procedures, ensuring the College is a safe environment for staff, students and visitors.

To carry out such duties as may be required from time to time by the college that are
appropriate to the grade of the post.
Working Relationships & Contacts
The postholder will, for the most part, work independently but will be responsible to the Head
of Section/ Curriculum Area Manager and will be in regular liaison with the Departmental
Administrator. On occasion the postholder will attend meetings with other tutors who work
within the Curriculum area and the wider College.

The Post
The successful candidate will be a musician with a background in teaching and playing the
classical guitar, with the ability to teach classical guitar technique and musicianship to groups
of adult learners. The appointment will be to teach classical guitar classes to students with 03 years of experience. There may be opportunities to develop this curriculum in the future.
The courses run on Fridays 6.00pm-9.30pm throughout the College’s academic year
(September 2014–June 2015). The appointment will begin in January 2015 or as soon as
possible after this.
Main conditions of Service
1.
You will be employed by Morley College Limited.
2.
The College pay rates for hourly-paid lecturers normally follow AoC National
Negotiating Committee agreements. Salary is grade H, currently £31.18 per hour
(including preparation time and holiday pay).
3.
The post is superannuable under the Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme administered
by the Teachers’ Pensions Agency. Other arrangements made under relevant
legislation will usually be accepted.
4.
Normal working hours are usually sessions of either 1 or 2 per class as determined by
the CAM during term-time only. Work in the evenings and occasionally at weekends
may be required.
5.
There will be a 6-month probation period.
6.
The College does not recognise service with any previous employer for calculating
continuous service for the purposes of the Employment Rights Act 1996. Any previous
continuous local government service may be counted as part of continuous
employment with the Company for redundancy pay purposes.
The date of
commencement of qualifying service for the purposes of that Act and for all other
contractual purposes will be the date on which the Hourly-Paid Lecturer first joins the
College’s service.
