This is an old church tradition of having the priest visit parishioners’ homes to offer a special blessing in celebration of the Epiphany season. House blessings date back to the early days of Christianity and the ritual takes the form of a prayer. Matthew 2:11 says, "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh." This commemorates the visitation of the Magi to the child Jesus. These blessings can be performed at any time convenient to the individual or family. They are especially good just after a residence is built or when a move is made into another residence. It gives the person or family a sense that God dwells “in this place”. We know if you intend to come so she can plan for proper seating: kpetty43@yahoo.com, 469-222-5998. FOOD PANTRY MINISTRY Holy Trinity Outreach is gathering and delivering food items for pantries in Rockwall, Forney, and Royse City. Please support this monthly ministry as part of our “prayer in action” objective. Bins are located in the narthex and near the undercroft. Page 2 JANUARY 2016 Wasp Abatement High Priority for New Year Sherri Mueller, our very excellent Jr. Warden, is once again on the ball making sure our church campus is optimally operating. Amid the many projects she’s taken on recently, wasp abatement might be at the top of the list. Apparently, historical churches like ours, especially those with a bell tower, attract wasps year around but especially when indoor warmth is at a premium–like now! We’ve tried spraying, fogging, baiting, sealing, whacking and netting but somehow, those pesky critters have been able to sneak through. Not only are they distracting to worship, they are potentially dangerous for those who have sensitivities or allergies to them. So pray that we can find new techniques to employ that are ultimately effective. Dear God, we know that wasps are part of your creation but could you please send them somewhere less threatening? Thanks! Candidates for our upcoming Vestry and Convention Delegate election have been announced in advance of our Parish Meeting January 31. Please pickup a bio sheet so that you can familiarize yourself with their profiles. There are three slots available to replace retiring members Hap Hiester, Sherri Mueller and Ginny Wyatt for new 3-year terms through 2018. Vestry candidates for 2016 are: Ken Bailey, Sharon Fullington, Brian Morgan and Kathy Roemisch. Convention Delegate candidates for three positions and alternates are: John Curtis, Hap Hiester, Grace Johnson, Kathy Roemisch, Steve Turek and Cassie Wilson. Page 3 HOLY TRINITY CHRONICLE It’s Impossible to Cover Our Current Outreach Programs in Only ONE Page! So this represents only a part of them. Holy Trinity is ON FIRE serving the needs of others in our community and elsewhere, thanks to the leadership of our rector, Fr. Keith, our Outreach Chair, Frances Farmer and her committee, and the generous efforts of our congregation. And don’t think that it’s just because it’s the Christmas Season, we have been exceeding all records throughout the year. Make sure you come to the Parish Meeting January 31 so you can hear all the details of our efforts! Holy Trinity's George Russell helps sort and shelve items at Helping Hands new Food Pantry location in the Reeves Building. Grace Johnson helps deliver three grocery carts of items to the Forney Food Pantry in Novem- For the third year in a row, Holy Trinity's Abra Chapter of the Daughters of the King has provided cakes and drinks for Woman Set Free for the annual Christmas Party for women incarcerated at the Hunt County Jail, held this year on December 3. In addition to refreshments, the women with postage stamps to send Christmas cards to their families. In accordance with jail policy, the cakes had to be of the full sheet type, with wording indicating that "Jesus is the reason for the season." Thanks to all who helped out with this outreach program. We responded to Tornado Relief needs incited by the December 26 rash of tornadoes that killed 11 and destroyed or damaged hundreds of homes and businesses, primarily in Garland and Rowlett. Parishioner, Sean Fay, who serves as the Assistant Fire Chief for Rowlett, brought our attention to the nutritional needs of the first responders who were working exhaustively to rescue and rebuild. For them and for the victims, parishioners generously came forward with cash, gift cards and food for all. Our Carter BloodCare drive in December broke our all time record we just set in June. Seventeen generous parishioners made donations, each pint of which will “save three lives!” If we continue with the “uptick,” we will qualify for the Bloodmobile in six months. Pictured are the “Parrish Girls” with their dad, Lane, who is about to complete his blood donation. The girls are smiling, despite their tentative observance of the “required equipment.” HOLY TRINITY CHRONICLE Page 4 PARISH PROFILES Lane Parrish Lea Lashley Family: wife, Sara, and 4 kids, Kathleen, Hannah, Arabelle, and Zachary Family: hubby Brian, my 1yr old Chase and 2 dogs (Little Bit and Friday) and mom, Libby (also an HTBTL member) Birthplace: Memphis, TN Birthplace: Wichita Falls, TX Employment: Benefits Consultant for USI Attend Holy Trinity since: 1997 Employment: I'm sort of like Barney from How I Met Your Mother or Chandler from Friends ... nobody really knows what I do, but I do it well and I travel a lot for it! JANUARY 2016 Page 5 HT ACTIVITIES: All Saints, GNO, Advent Crafts, Jesse Tree 1 Advent was marked by tons of special activities as pictured: 1) All Saints Baptisms Fr. Keith brought the children around so they could experience the baptisms “up close and personal.” 2) GNO was a Christmas party held at Opa’s in Rowlett. 3) Advent Craft St. Nicholas Visit HT children were thrilled with a surprise visit from St. Nicholas (on crutches no less) as he heard their goodwill wishes 4) Advent Craft Event Adults also enjoyed the opportunity to construct their own Advent Wreaths as they joined our parish kids in their artwork. 5) Jesse Tree Our kids enjoyed decorating their tree whose history is a symbolic reminder of an Old Testament person named Jesse. Jesse had a son named David who was chosen by God to serve as king of Israel. David was the first member of a new royal family which ruled over Israel for many years. Jesus was born into this royal family. These ancestors, plus all of the holy men and women of the Old Testament who inspired them, make up the spiritual background of Jesus. We can count all of them as part of Jesus’ family tree. 3 2 4 5 Holy Trinity by the Lake Episcopal Church 1524 Smirl Drive Heath, TX. 75032 972-771-8242 Phone www.htbtl.org Non Profit Org.
