Hawaii International Conference on Business
Aloha!
We welcome you to the Sixth Annual Hawaii International Conference on Business.
This event offers a rare opportunity for academics and other professionals from around
the world to share their broad array of perspectives. True to its primary goal, this
conference provides those with cross-disciplinary interests related to business to meet and
interact with others inside and outside their own discipline.
The international attendees to this conference bring a variety of viewpoints shaped by
different cultures, languages, geography and politics. This diversity is also captured in
the Hawaii International Conference’s unique cross-disciplinary approach. The resulting
interaction energizes research as well as vocation.
With Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head and the vast South Pacific as the backdrop, this
venue is an important dimension of this conference. For centuries a stopping place of
explorers, Hawaii has historically been enriched by the blend of ideas that have crossed
our shores. The Hawaii International Conference on Business continues this tradition in
the nurturing spirit of Aloha. Along with its ideal weather and striking beauty, the
Hawaiian Islands provide natural elements to inspire learning and dialogue.
The 2005 conference was a great success. We hosted more than 350 participants

after each paper or if questions and answers will come after all of the papers of
the session are through presenting.
All participants of each of the sessions should feel free to consider themselves as
discussants.
Poster Sessions
The poster sessions will consist of presenters that requested to present posters, as well as
those that did not register or confirm their attendance by April 21st.
All poster sessions will be held in the Kona Moku Ballroom, Salons A and B. Presenters
will be able to meet one-on-one with interested participants for detailed discussions
regarding their research. Tri-fold presentation boards, easels with flipcharts, and tables
will be provided in the Kona Moku Ballroom for the presenters.
Internet Access
Limited Internet access will be provided in the registration room for participants to check
their email. There will be a small number of laptops provided by the conference for
Internet use. Please limit use of these computers to 15 minutes.
If you have your own laptop, feel free to use the supplied LAN cables to “plug-in” to
our network. If your laptop has wireless Internet capabilities, you will be able to pick
up our wireless signal in and around the registration room. The wireless Internet SSID is
“HIC”.

1. Magic of Polynesia show to be held on Thursday, May 25th 8:00pm at The Waikiki
Beachcomber Hotel, 2300 Kalakaua Ave., 2nd Floor Showroom. A dazzling world-class
production. Hawaiian legends unfold before your eyes. Mystifying illusions and special effects take
the art of magic to its outer limits. Hawaii's internationally acclaimed illusionist, John Hirokawa, is
a master. Keep your eyes on his hands as John casts his spell and transforms the showroom into a
spellbinding arena of brilliant magic.
2. Creation - A Polynesian Odyssey cocktail show on Friday, May 26th 7:00pm at Sheraton
Princess Kaiulani Hotel Waikiki, 120 Kaiulani Ave., second floor showroom. Creation - A
Polynesian Journey takes the audience on a theatrical excursion to witness the mythical creation of
Polynesian man and woman along with their spectacular voyage through the Pacific. The show
presents a chronological story through the South Pacific Islands with an accomplished cast of
performers representing the cultural music and dances of Tahiti, New Zealand, Fiji, the Marquesas
Islands, Samoa and Hawaii.

Dr. David B. Montgomery
David B. Montgomery is the Kresge Professor of Marketing – Emeritus at the Stanford
Graduate School of Business and Consulting/Visiting Professor of Marketing and Management and Dean –
Emeritus of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business at Singapore Management University. He was
formerly on the faculty of the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
and the Stanford School of Engineering. He was Executive Director at the Marketing Science Institute
(1995 – 97), Academic Trustee (1994 – 2001), and member of the Executive Directors Council ( 1997 –
present). His paper “ First Mover Advantages”, Strategic Management Journal (1988 ) with Marvin
Lieberman won the 1996 Strategic Management Society best paper award for significant contribution to
Strategy. He is the 2002 recipient of the AMA’s Mahajan Award for career contributions to marketing
strategy research. He is the all time most published author of Marketing Science Institute publications.
Professor Montgomery was the first Marketing Departmental Editor at the Journal Management
Science, and has served on the editorial boards of J. of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, J. of
Marketing, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and J. of
International Marketing. He was the Consulting Editor of JIM. He was the co-founder of the INFORMS
Marketing College, one of the largest and most active of the INFORMS colleges. He was the co-chairman
of the first INFORMS Marketing Science Conference at Stanford in 1979 and will co-chair the 2007
Conference in Singapore hosted by Singapore Management University
He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering (1960,Tau Beta Pi engineering honorary society), MBA
(1962), MS in Mathematical Statistics (1964), and a PhD in Management Science (1966), all from Stanford
University. In 1998 he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by LUC (Belgium ) in recognition for his
contributions to marketing science and strategic management, especially from a global perspective.
He has published ten books and journal special issues including Stochastic Models of Buying
Behavior (with W.F. Massy and D.G. Morrison), Management Science in Marketing, (with G. Urban ),
Planning: Cases in Computer and Model Assisted Marketing ( with G. Day, G. Eskin, and C.B. Weinberg ),
Data Analysis: Cases in Computer and Model Assisted Marketing (with G. Eskin ), Marketing
Management Models – a special issue of Management Science, Fundamental Issues and Directions for
Marketing in the New Millennium ( with G.Day ) a special issue of the J. of Marketing ( October 1999 ),
Market Measurement and Analysis ( with Dick Wittink ) , and Competition and Marketing ( 2001 ), a
special issue of the International Journal of Research in Marketing ( with O. Heil ). The first and second of
these books are the ninth and thirteenth most cited books in marketing according to a compilation of
citations released in the mid 1980’s. The third and fourth books were the first two computer based
casebooks published in marketing and for which he and his co-authors received a citation for significant
contributions to the use of computers in management education. He has published over one hundred
articles and technical reports.
He has served on several corporate boards and has conducted over 250 executive education
programs on five continents.
