Telematics
integration
More and more, technology is infusing every aspect of vehicle
and fleet management. Inside the vehicles are sophisticated on-board computer
(OBC) networks that monitor and manage all major systems. In certain cases
there are separate computers that run components specific to that vehicle’s
job. On the shop floor and in the maintenance department, fleet maintenance
information systems (FMIS) are making it easier to input fleet data into a
single database which can be accessed for management and analysis. Each of
these systems tracks vast amounts of information. In the past, telematics was
mainly thought of as the satellite technology that provided for navigation and
communication with vehicles as they were in motion. However, today’s definition
of telematics encompasses broader functionality. Telematics can allow all these
systems - OBC, satellite and shop floor - to communicate with Trapeze’s single
maintenance database which can provide greater accuracy and efficiency. The
Telematics module consolidates all telemetry data sources into our fleet EAM
single client-managed database. This module is useful for capturing both nonactionable readings (such as location, engine run time, or minimum charge
voltage) and actionable faults [such as diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)]. The
Telematics module can be set to the parameters that meet the needs of your fleet.

Highlights
• Provides a single service capable of
communication with many service
providers
• Telemetric data can be viewed in both
the service providers system AND the
Fleet EAM database
• Creates meter updates and associated
journal records from actual meter
values
• Tracks history for:
- Unit location (Latitude/Longitude)
- Fault codes
- Vehicle Parameters
• Links fault codes to a specific job
code or to a generic work request
job code
• Telemetric data from outside
sources can be applied to Fleet EAM
specific reports, dashboards and
configured to initiate service requests
and notifications
Link Telematics data to specific EAM
Fleet Management Actions based on your
own particular needs, such as Creating a
Service Request when a certain Diagnostic
Trouble Code is reported.

Benefits
Individual telematics solutions coupled with the
Fleet EAM Telematics module provide benefits throughout
a fleet organization, including increased vehicle utilization,
more proactive maintenance, better timeliness of
preventive maintenance schedules, and improved fuel
and risk management.
• Utilization Management
- Assess accurate usage data to get a better picture of vehicle
true usage and need which can help “right size” fleets
- Identify areas for vehicle and trip sharing through
Destination/path information
- Improve driver management through monitors of
unauthorized vehicle use and alerts when vehicles deviate
from work zones
• Maintenance Management
- Better plan scheduled and predictive maintenance
through frequent accurate meter readings
- Identify unreported problems before they become failures
and react immediately to fault code alerts
- Establish condition-based maintenance programs
through integrated fault codes
- Improve warranty coverage and vehicle component
selection by analyzing vehicle performance data
• Fuel Management
- Optimize vehicle performance and driving habits to
reduce fuel consumption by monitoring engine idle to
reduce fuel burn, identify potential fuel issues early
so they can be fixed and monitor emission/engine
parameters to improve performance
- Improve driver behavior through analysis and training to
improve bad fuel habits such as high RPM/acceleration,
excessive speed and hard braking
- R educe unnecessary miles by using Track and Trace to find
the most efficient routes and reduce unauthorized use
• Risk Management
- Improve regulatory compliance through time of service
reporting, pre-trip inspections, emission monitoring, and
fuel tax reporting
- Identify poor driving habits and provide training
opportunities based on actual operating data
- Improve Accident Management by using parameter data
to understand vehicle state at time of accident
With all the valuable data that is available to you, having an
integrated telematics solution is paramount to maximizing your
efficiency. The Fleet EAM Telematics module can reduce the amount
of time spent manually moving or collecting data, improve accuracy
through automated processes, and streamline your maintenance
processes through a single portal to view all relevant fleet information.
Integrated telemetrics can also make condition-based maintenance
and fact-based management a reality. Let the Telematics module
bring all your fleet data into your Fleet EAM system.
