Following the reputation for accuracy, comprehensiveness, and currency, the authors
have painstakingly created a book dedicated to assisting students learning
nd
intermediate accounting topics under the rules of IFRS. The 2 edition of Kieso’s
Intermediate Accounting IFRS Edition is published in a combined format, differing
nd
from the first edition which was published in two volumes. The 2 edition of this text
contains updated chapters to reflect the latest changes to IFRS standards, in
particular Pensions, Revenue, Recognition, Leases, and Financial Instruments. More
US GAAP coverage is included through end of the chapter appendices and more
marginal boxes.
The Wiley Advantage

Focus on real international companies, international examples, and
international currencies. The basics of financial accounting principles and
procedures are presented within the context of IFRS while also providing
exercises and problems that present students with international currency
examples (e.g. yen, euro).

Authoritative literature references (IASB/IFRS) – considers the key
authoritative literature under IFRS as students become more familiar with the
original sources.

Convergence Corner feature considers key differences between US GAAP and
IFRS while offering information about how the systems are converging on the
topic.

Marks & Spencer (GBR), Cadbury (GBR), and Nestlé (CHE) Annual Reports
& Financial Reporting Problems offer students opportunities to apply their
knowledge of accounting and IFRS to real-life international companies.
New To This Program

This text is published in a combined format rather than separate volumes.

Chapters updated to reflect latest changes to IFRS standards, in particular
Pensions (Ch 20), Revenue Recognition (Ch 18), Leases (Ch 21) and
Financial Instruments (Ch 17).

More US GAAP coverage than included in 1e in end of chapter appendices
and more marginal boxes.

‘What do the Numbers Mean’ boxes and text examples updated

Emphasis of CPA review materials in this edition

Weygandt, Financial and Managerial
Accounting 2E (ISBN: 978-1-1183-3426-3)
Your Team for Student Success
Financial and Managerial Accounting, by Weygandt, Kimmel, Kieso is a new introductory program
for the two semester accounting sequence that presents equal coverage of both introductory financial
and managerial accounting topics. The Team for Success authors of Jerry Weygandt, Paul Kimmel,
and Don Kieso bring years of industry, academic, and writing experience to the development of this
new title which gives students the tools they need to understand the accounting cycle and key
financial accounting topics, while presenting the managerial topics in an easy-to-understand fashion
in a decision-making framework.
The Team for Success authors understand where students struggle in introductory accounting, and
have developed a learning system that illustrates the accounting cycle and key transactions, while
giving student the tools to apply their learning through sample exercises throughout the chapter.
Weygandt Financial and Managerial Accounting relates accounting concepts to real-world
experiences, is full relevant examples to students’ lives, and provides IFRS coverage that will prepare
students for the global economy.
Students using Weygandt, Financial and Managerial Accounting with WileyPLUS will spend more
time with the material because it demonstrates the relevance and offers multiple opportunities for
practice both in the book and in WileyPLUS. Students take more initiative with their learning, so you’ll
have a greater impact in the classroom.

Finance

Essentials of Corporate Finance with WileyPLUS offers a focused choice for instructors
teaching the fundamentals of value creation by offering a balance of intuitive conceptual
understanding, problem solving and analysis, and decision making skills.
Students who understand the intuition underlying the basic concepts of finance are better able
to develop the critical judgments necessary to apply financial tools in real decision-making
situations. Authors Bob Parrino of University of Texas, Austin, Tom Bates of Arizona State
University, and David Kidwell of University of Minnesota present a concise treatment of
foundational topics while maintaining the same effective Learning by Doing pedagogy found in
the successful Fundamentals edition. With WileyPLUS, students come to class prepared after
working through Orion’s adaptive learning module, develop problem solving skills with instant
feedback on their work, and are guided through examples with Animated Learning by Doing.

Corporate Finance to their future studies and career paths.





An Intuitive Approach: Explaining finance concepts in an intuitive context helps students
develop a richer understanding of those concepts and gain better insights into how finance
problems can be approached. Building Intuition boxes provide a statement of an
important finance concept along with an intuitive example or explanation to help the
student “get” the concept.
Learning by Doing applications contain quantitative problems with step-by-step solutions
to help students better understand how to apply their intuition and analytical skills to solve
problems. This unique feature takes the stepped-out problem beyond other texts by
offering “approaches” students can take to solve each problem.
Decision-Making Examples emphasize the decision-making process along with
computation and provide students at all levels with experience in financial decision-making.
Adaptive Learning: WileyPLUS is equipped with an adaptive learning module called
ORION. Based on cognitive science, WileyPLUS with ORION, provides students with a
personal, adaptive learning experience so they can build their proficiency on topics and
use their study time most effectively. WileyPLUS with ORION helps students learn by
learning about them.
Finance Weekly Updates: www.wileyfinanceupdates.com. Every week brings you the
latest news relevant to your Finance course. Password only available to current users.
Extensive End-of-Chapter Problems and Questions In addition to the many numerical
examples that are solved in the text of each chapter, Essentials of Corporate Finance has
more than 960 end-of-chapter problems which have been written with Bloom’s Taxonomy in
mind.




Problems w/ Detailed Solutions to reinforce the methods used to solve problems
discussed in the chapter. Stepped out solutions and financial calculator solutions for each
problem are available in WileyPLUS as feedback to students.
Critical Thinking Questions require students to think through their understanding of the
basic concepts and apply those concepts to a problem.
Questions and Problems provide a broad range of questions and problems, including
sample problems from CFA Institute, covering a range of difficulty levels to help students
solidify their understanding of the concepts. Excel Problems are identified for selected
Problems that can be solved using Excel templates at the student website.
Sample Test Problems call for straightforward applications of the chapter concepts and
gives students a sense of comfort in test preparation.

Think. Decide. Act.
Management by Neck, Lattimer and Houghton helps students think critically,
make better decisions, and act in an ethical way that contributes to long-term
organizational success.
The authors of Management believe that young managers can contribute to
building a more sustainable future by making decisions that are more acutely
informed by their ability to see, think, apply, analyze, design, integrate, and
evaluate systems and patterns of behavior. In order to do this, students and
instructors need a new principles of management textbook to address today’s
challenges and opportunities, with a new approach to content, pedagogy, and
style.

Neubert, Organizational Behavior
© 2014
www.wiley.com/college/sc/neubert
Unlike any other OB textbook in the market, Neubert, Organizational
Behavior empowers students to look at OB through two “lenses:” the
traditional, core concepts that focus on how to make a company profitable,
and the collaboration, creativity, and ethical decision making that lead to
developing sustainable businesses. By inviting students to compare and
contrast short-term profitability and long-term sustainability, Organizational
Behavior helps students build the critical thinking skills needed to positively
affect organizations, people, and communities.

Uhl-Bien, Organizational Behavior, 13e
© 2014
www.wiley.com/college/sc/schermerhornob
The world of work is complex, dynamic and interactive, and as such, there is a need for
employees and managers to become more proactive, networked and collaborative.
Students should understand how they can manage themselves to be more effective
contributors in the workplace and how, as managers, they need to focus on engaging
with employees with influence, rather than authority, to get things done.
Uhl-Bien/Schermerhorn, Organizational Behavior 13th Edition is written in a very
accessible style, with pedagogical features designed to bring OB to life. The text relays
the value of OB for the workplace and in life to engage students in this passion so they
embrace the material and want to learn even more.

Accompanying Organizational Behavior 13th Edition is WileyPLUS, a research-based,
online environment for effective teaching and learning. This online learning system
provides students with a variety of study tools, a complete e-text and practice quizzes
with instant feedback. For instructors, WileyPLUS offers automatically graded
assignments or tests and a gradebook for monitoring student progress. Available in or
outside of the Blackboard Learn Environment, WileyPLUS resources help reach all types
of learners and give instructors the tools they need to enhance course material.
The Wiley Advantage
 Integrated Learning Design: Every chapter opens with a subtitle and photograph
that help students identify with the content right from the beginning. This is followed
by the “Key Point,” “Chapter At a Glance” and “What’s Inside” to direct students’
attention to major chapter features. Throughout the chapter, the Learning Roadmap
identifies major learning objectives for each section and the end-of-chapter study
guide includes a summary of key questions and answers, terms to know, a chapter
self-test, and suggested active learning activities found in the end-of-book OB Skills
Workbook
 “Flipped” Classroom Resources: “Flipped” classrooms shift the focus from
instructors lecturing and students listening, to instructors guiding and students
engaging. The first step to making that possible is for students to read and study
assigned materials outside of class. The text support this goal, through features like
“Bringing OB to Life,” “Worth Considering… Or Best Avoided,” “Finding the Leader in
You,” “OB in Pop Culture” and the cases and activities in the OB Skills Workbook.
 OB Skills Workbook: A selection of Cases for Critical Thinking, Team and
Experiential Exercises, and Self-Assessments.
 Environmental and Sustainability Coverage: Examples and cases in the text,
supplemental videos and experiential exercises illustrate the relationship between
people and organizations of high integrity and superior performance.
 WileyPLUS is now equipped with an adaptive learning module called ORION. Based
on cognitive science, WileyPLUS with ORION, provides students with a personal,
adaptive learning experience so they can build their proficiency on topics and use
their study time most effectively. WileyPLUS with ORION helps students learn by
learning about them.
New To This Program
 New Lead Author: Dr. Mary Uhl-Bien (Nebraska) brings extensive knowledge of
leadership, ethics and relational processes to the 13th Edition and infuses the text
with new themes related to collaborative thinking, distributed responsibility in the
workplace, and the dynamic, interactive, and emergent nature of organizations.
 Collaboration: a key theme of this edition is the need to move beyond the limits of
hierarchical thinking and recognize we live in an increasingly interconnected and
collaborative world.
 A new emphasis on Relationships is drawn from current research and highlights
the importance of interpersonal relationships in OB. Special emphasis is placed on
relationship-building processes relative to communication, power, and leadership.

th
Elementary Linear Algebra 11 edition gives an elementary treatment of linear
algebra that is suitable for a first course for undergraduate students. The aim is to
present the fundamentals of linear algebra in the clearest possible way; pedagogy is
the main consideration. Calculus is not a prerequisite, but there are clearly labeled
exercises and examples (which can be omitted without loss of continuity) for students
who have studied calculus.

Highlights Relationships among Concepts – By continually revisiting the
web of relationships among systems of equations, matrices, determinants,
vectors, linear transformations, and eigenvalues, Anton helps students to
perceive linear algebra as a cohesive subject rather than as a collection of
isolated definitions and techniques.
Proof Sketches – Students sharpen their mathematical reasoning skills and
understanding of proofs by filling in justifications for proof steps in some
exercises.
Emphasizes Visualization – Geometric aspects of various topics are
emphasized, to support visual learners, and to provide an additional layer of
understanding for all students. The geometric approach naturally leads to
contemporary applications of linear algebra in computer graphics that are
covered in the text.
Mathematically Sound – Mathematical precision appropriate for
mathematics majors is maintained in a book whose explanations and
pedagogy meet the needs of engineering, science, and business/economics
students.

New Edition Coming!
Brannan, Differential Equations 3E
(ISBN: 978-1-1185-3193-8)
Description:
The modern landscape of technology and industry demands an equally modern approach to differential
equations in the classroom. Designed for a first course in differential equations, the second edition of
Brannan/Boyce’s Differential Equations: An Introduction to Modern Methods and Applications is consistent
with the way engineers and scientists use mathematics in their daily work. The focus on fundamental skills,
careful application of technology, and practice in modeling complex systems prepares students for the
realities of the new millennium, providing the building blocks to be successful problem-solvers in today’s
workplace.
The text emphasizes a systems approach to the subject and integrates the use of modern computing
technology in the context of contemporary applications from engineering and science. Section exercises
throughout the text provide hands-on experience in modeling, analysis, and computer experimentation.

Functions Modeling Change: A Preparation for
Calculus, 4th edition
Eric Connally, Deborah Hughes-Hallett
ISBN: 978-0-470-48475-3
©2011
New Edition Coming!
Connally, Functions Modeling Change 5E
(ISBN: 978-1-1185-8319-7)
Description:
The fourth edition of this market-leading text helps instructors motivate concepts, and students
develop critical thinking skills. Functions Modeling Change, 4th edition, is designed to accomplish
the main goals of the Precalculus course: to build a solid mathematical foundation and prepare
students for Calculus. The authors achieve this by focusing on a small number of key topics, thereby
emphasizing depth of understanding rather than breadth of coverage. Functions Modeling Change,
4th edition, presents each function symbolically, numerically, graphically and verbally (the Rule of
Four). Additionally, a large number of real-world applications, examples, and problems enable
students to create mathematical models that relate to the world around them.
Hallmark Features:
 Exceptional Problems: Examples and problems based on real data help students create
mathematical models to help them understand their world. An appropriate number of drill
problems are included to assist students in learning techniques. The problems are varied and
some are more challenging. Most cannot be done by following a template in the text.
 Allows for a broad range of teaching styles. This text is flexible enough for use in large
lecture halls, small classes, or in group or lab settings.
 Focuses on fewer topics than is customary, but each topic is treated in greater depth.
Only those topics essential to the study of calculus are included.
 Reflects the spirit of the standards established by the Mathematical Association of
America (MAA) and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges
(AMATYC), and meets the recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics (NCTM).
 Assumes technology has a place in modern mathematics. This text takes full advantage
of technology when appropriate, although no specific technology is emphasized. It is
important for students to learn how and when to use technology as a tool, as well as its
limitations. However the focus of the text is on conceptual understanding not technology.
 The Rule of Four: Each function is represented symbolically, numerically, graphically, and
verbally.
New to the Edition:
 Algebraic Skills Refreshers are introduced in two formats, both integrated with the text:
 Skills Refresher exercises are included at the start of many exercise sets, identified by S1,
S2, etc.
 Skills Refresher sections are included at the end of some chapters.
 A new Chapter 3 on Quadratic Functions brings together and expands the material on
quadratics in the former Sections 2.6 and 5.5.
 Section 4.4 on Compound Interest and Section 4.5 on the Number e have been
reorganized to give instructors more flexibility in deciding how to introduce e.
Students have more options than the traditional textbook. Consider an eBook, loose-leaf binder
version or a custom publication. Learn more about our flexible pricing, flexible formats and flexible content at
www.wiley.com/college/wileyflex
39
 Limit Notation has been moved to the end of Section 5.3 to provide additional flexibility
in how, or whether, limit notation is introduced.
 A new Section 6.5 on Combining Transformations investigates the effect of varying the
order in which transformations are applied to functions and their graphs.
 The material on trigonometry in the former Chapters 6 and 7 has been expanded and
reorganized into three chapters, allowing instructors to tailor their approach to the needs of
their students.
 Chapter 7 defines the trigonometric functions in circles and triangles.
 Chapter 8 studies the behavior of the trigonometric functions and their graphs, and
introduces trigonometric identities, polar coordinates, and complex numbers.
 Chapter 9 investigates trigonometric identities and their applications to modeling.
 Data and problems have been updated and revised as appropriate. Many new problems
have been added.
 ConcepTests for precalculus are available for instructors looking for innovative ways to
promote active learning in the classroom. Further information is provided under the
Supplementary Materials on page ix.

Basic Engineering Circuit Analysis, 10th Edition
By: J. David Irwin, Robert M. Nelms
ISBN: 978-0-470-63322-9
©2011
New Edition Coming!
Irwin, Basic Engineering Circuit
Analysis 11E (ISBN: 978-1-1185-3929-3)
Circuits is the gateway to Electrical Engineering that many students fail to pass through.
Basic engineering circuit analysis has long been regarded as the most dependable
textbook for students otherwise intimidated by the subject matter. With this new 10 th
edition, Irwin and Nelms continue to develop the most complete set of pedagogical
tools available and thus provide the highest level of support for students entering into this
complex subject.
Irwin and Nelms’ trademark student-centered learning design focuses on helping
students “complete the connection” between theory and practice. This theme starts
with chapter openers that include specific learning objectives for the chapter, around
which all chapter content is structured. All key concepts are described in text, illustrated
with solved example problems, and then followed by Learning Assessments, which are
similar problems with the answer given, but not the solution. Students can then ‘complete
the connection’ by solving an algorithmic variation of that. Further end-of-chapter
problems gradually raise the level of complexity. All learning modules include reading
quiz questions in WileyPLUS, so faculty can identify gaps in student learning (or lapses in
student effort) and students can measure their own mastery of the material.
New to This Edition





New chapter openers and photos connect concepts in the book to novel real-world
applications
Each chapter now begins with, and is structured around, specific learning objectives
Circuits is a problem-solving discipline, learned through practice. Tools to help
students build their problem-solving skills have been expanded to take full advantage
of the combination of print and digital media. Key concepts are first described in
text with illustrations, followed by detailed example solutions, and then problems with
answers given, called Learning Assessments. Each Learning Assessment is also
offered as a video tutorial in WileyPLUS. Finally, algorithmic EOC problems give
students the opportunity to practice the same types of problems with different values.
The problem-solving videos (PSVs) are now also available as iPod downloads.
In order to provide maximum flexibility, solved examples are available in online
supplements that apply the most popular problem-solving programs, MATLAB, PSPICE
or MultiSim. These examples are all based on problems in the text, and any or all of
them can be integrated into custom editions of the text.
The EOC problems have been greatly expanded and revised. There are
approximately 1400 problems in the 10th Edition, including hundreds of new problems
of all levels of difficulty.
Hallmark Features


Extensive ‘teaching-by-example’ approach; key concepts are explained
multiple times in varying formats to support diverse learning styles
The four-color design is employed to enhance and clarify both text and
illustrations. This greatly improves the pedagogical presentation, particularly
with complex circuit illustrations. A consistent color scheme for circuit
elements and other graphic components is used throughout the text.
47


Detailed, flexible coverage of the most popular problem-solving software -Pspice, MATLAB, and LabView – is provided in online supplements that can be
included in custom print versions at the professor’s discretion.
Every chapter includes FE Exam Problems, which closely match the style and
level of problems typically found on this standardized test taken by most
engineering students before graduation.

Nise, Control Systems Engineering, 7e
© 2014
www.wiley.com/college/nise
Highly regarded for its case studies and accessible writing, Nise’s Control Systems
Engineering has become the top selling text in its market. It takes a practical approach,
presenting clear and complete explanations. Real world examples demonstrate the analysis
and design process, while helpful skill assessment exercises, numerous in-chapter examples,
review questions and problems reinforce key concepts. In addition, "What If" experiments help
expand an engineer’s knowledge and skills. Tutorials are also included on the latest versions
of MATLAB, the Control System Toolbox, Simulink, the Symbolic Math Toolbox, and
MATLAB’s graphical user interface (GUI) tools. Ten new simulated control lab experiments
now complement the online resources that accompany the text.
The Wiley Advantage

Accessibly written. Generally regarded as the best written control textbook,
noted for its clear writing and accessible presentation.

Design Emphasis. Students are encouraged to go beyond a plug-and-chug
approach through the use of design problems, progressive analysis and design
problems, and examples and problems related to the case studies.

Real-world case studies (an autonomous submersible vehicle and an antenna
position control system) are built up gradually throughout the chapters to
demonstrate the analysis and design process.

Strong learning-by-example pedagogical approach. Skill-assessment
exercises demonstrate step-by-step techniques to solve most problems; cyber
exploration labs show how to apply popular software tools (MATLAB, LabVIEW,
and Simulink) to control engineering problems.


New Edition Coming!
Jenkins, Anatomy and Physiology 4E
(ISBN: 978-1-1185-8321-0)
Anatomy and Physiology: From Science to Life, 3e builds on the success of its prior editions in providing
solutions to recurring issues in A&P education – how to better motivate students and help them make
the connection to what is important going forward; how to get students to see the forest for the trees;
how to help students who lack study and critical thinking skills when they enter the course to succeed
disjointed facts. The entire text is focused on aiding critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and
relevant application of knowledge when studying Anatomy and Physiology. From Science to Life, 3e
effectively blends print and media to bring the content to life for students. The conceptual focus
allows for fewer pages in the printed text, making the text less intimidating to the uninitiated student.
Our unique use of a running clinical case throughout each chapter motivating and helping students
build critical thinking skills. Accompanying media allows for a richer investigation of the content
presented in the printed text, provides useful “background” knowledge, and ensures the students a
solid reference resource when the course is complete.

Chabay, Matter & Interactions 4E
(ISBN: 978-1-1188-7586-5)
Matter & Interactions, 3rd Edition
Ruth W. Chabay and Bruce A. Sherwood, North Carolina State University
978-0-470-50347-8 (Complete hardback version; also available in volumes)
Matter & Interactions offers a modern curriculum for introductory physics
(calculus-based). It is modern in that it presents physics the way practicing
physicists think about their discipline and integrates 20th Century physics
and computational physics.
The text emphasizes that there are only a small number of fundamental
principles that underlie the behavior of matter, and that using these
powerful principles it is possible to construct models that can explain and
predict a wide variety of physical phenomena.
Matter & Interactions is available as a single volume hardcover text and also
two paperback volumes. Vol. 1, Modern Mechanics focuses on the atomic
structure of matter and the interactions between material objects. Vol. 2, Electric & Magnetic
Interactions emphasizes the concepts of electric and magnetic fields and extends the study of the
atomic structure of matter to include the role of electrons.
New to this Edition:

Online Homework- Most of the end-of-chapter problems are available for assignment with
the WebAssign online homework system.

Instructor Solutions Manual- The new edition is accompanied by a complete instructor
solutions manual.

More exercises and problems at the end of each chapter including more numerical
examples to complement the symbolic ones.

Improvements in the treatments of computational modeling, angular momentum, the
effects of electric fields on matter, and electromagnetic radiation.

New section on geometric optics in Chapter 24.

Improved Design- The production values have been upgraded to make the text more
student-friendly.

Full color helps clarify many diagrams and allows examples to stand out more clearly.
Hallmark Features:

Modeling- The text places a major emphasis on constructing and using physical models. A
central aspect of science is the modeling of complex real-world phenomena. A physical
model is based on fundamental principles; its intent is to predict or explain the most
important aspects of an actual situation.

Computer Modeling- Computer modeling is now as important as theory and experiment in
contemporary science and engineering. Computer modeling is introduced right away to help
build a strong foundation in the use of this important tool.
69

Experiments Using Simple Equipment- Some end-of-chapter problems involve
experiments using simple equipment such as weights, string, coffee filters, scotch tape, etc.
By experimenting with very simple equipment, students can gain insight into rather deep
scientific issues.

Active Learning- Stop and Think questions are interspersed throughout the reading to
encourage students to engage the material more deeply.

Lab Activities- There is a complete set of lab activities that were written specifically for a
Matter & Interactions-style course.

Cutnell, Physics 10E
(ISBN: 978-1-1184-8689-4)
Cutnell and Johnson has been the #1 text in the algebra-based physics market for almost 20 years. PHYSICS 9e
continues that tradition by providing superior support students need to facilitate a deeper level of conceptual
understanding, improve their reasoning skills and see the relevance of physics to their lives and future careers.
Research studies have shown that there is a strong correlation between time on task and student learning
gains. PHYSICS 9e with WileyPLUS offers instructors innovative new tools for engaging students. Through the
use of a proven pedagogy, instructors are able to much more effectively monitor student reading and progress,
resulting in a higher level of student engagement with the course content.
Success in physics is also based on practice. Working high quality problem sets is one of the best ways for
students to learn physics. However, to get the greatest benefit from working problems students need
immediate feedback and expert coaching. PHYSICS 9e with WileyPLUS offers an extensive and tested set of
assessment questions and sophisticated wrong answer feedback.

NEW! The interior has been entirely re-designed in order to help readers to move through the concepts with maximum
clarity and minimum distraction.
NEW Research Challenges present expanded discussions of the latest research on “Hot Topics” (such as Embodied
Cognition), followed by a special Student Engagement Exercise, which asks students to identify the hypothesis,

the scientific method and its various components. Few, if any, intro texts ever revisit this material past Chapter 1, much
less provide interactive, self-testing opportunities.
A NEW Expanded Psychology Engages section has been included at the end of each chapter. This increases the flow of
the most essential material, while still preserving the highly engaging, supplemental material to successfully enrich
learning.
NEW Myth Busters are integrated throughout each chapter and encourage students to think critically about previous
psychological misperceptions and myths.
NEW Test Yourself is integrated throughout Psychology in Action asks students to respond to highly engaging
personality questionnaires and self-reflection exercises in order to increase their motivation and engagement while also

improving understanding of key terms and core concepts. [This feature differs from the preexisting “Try This Yourself”
because it focuses on “self-tests” (e.g., “What Are Your Major Hassles?” “Are You Resilient?”) versus hands-on exercises
related to specific textual material (e.g., “Do You Have a Blind Spot?”)]
NEW, Upgraded, and renamed Step-by-Step Diagrams and Concept Organizers, with a small, STOP sign icon and a
note to the reader saying: This Step-by-Step diagram [or Concept Organizer] contains essential information NOT found
elsewhere in the text, which is likely to appear on quizzes and exams. Be sure to study it CAREFULLY!
NEW, Upgraded, and renamed Stop & Review feature. The previously named “Check & Review” feature has been
changed by:
o Streamlining and moving the previous learning objectives and answers to the new narrative summary at the end of
the chapter.
o Adding a NEW “Retrieval Practice” section that reflects the latest research on the most effective technique for
learning and retention.
o Increasing the previous number of multiple-choice and fill-in questions.
UPGRADED Visual Summaries follow the NEW narrative summaries and are now more visually appealing and less
textual. Narrative Summaries present the learning objectives distributed throughout the chapter, along with sample
answers, in a two-page spread at the end of each chapter.

Real World Psychology
Karen Huffman, Catherine A. Sanderson
©2014
www.wiley.com/college/huffman
With a combined total of 49 years teaching introductory psychology, authors Karen Huffman
and Catherine A. Sanderson provide the latest up-to-date coverage and real world applications
to core concepts in the teaching of psychology. Designed for introductory psychology courses,
Real World Psychology is above all a brief book that works within the time constraints of
today’s instructors and students. This first edition text allows readers to grasp the “big picture”
in psychology without an abundance of supplementary details. Huffman and Sanderson tie
each key concept to real-world, in-text examples that offer an incomparable window into not
only ourselves, but also into the world and the people who sustain us.
The Wiley Advantage
Catering to the firm belief that brevity matters, this text cohesively covers key topics in
introductory psychology while respecting both instructors and students’ time. The authors use
their B (Brevity) and four C’s (Concise, Comprehensive, Comprehensible, and Convenient)
system to turn “B” and “C” students into “A”s! Besides brief, this text is:





Concise. When textbook chapters (or classroom lectures) are too long, attention
strays and educational goals are lost. But brevity is more than just fewer words. The
true goal of concise writing is clarity.
Comprehensive. Knowing that the overarching goal of all instructors is to present
the essentials of psychology, this text is dedicated to comprehensive coverage of all
the core concepts because content matters.
o Included is a special featured called Psych Science that offers an expanded
discussion of the latest research on various “Hot Topics,” such as the
influence of media images of women on preschool girls’ body-shape
preferences, or the impact of cell phone use on driving errors.
o Each detailed Psych Science example is followed by a special, interactive
Research Challenge, which asks the reader to identify the research method
used in each example. This exercise helps reinforce the core learning
objective on research methods, while also building student appreciation and
engagement with the latest research.
Comprehensible. A good textbook must be more than concise and comprehensive.
It must organize and present complex topics in a manner that is easily read and
understood by the reader. However, comprehension without real world application is
fairly useless.
o Research shows that tying everyday examples to new material not only
provides the scaffolding necessary for mastering complex topics, it also
helps today’s busy students see how the terms and concepts they’re
learning in this text can help improve their everyday life.
o A new feature, Voices in the Classroom, provides real life examples from
professors across the nation, which illustrate how psychology can help us
describe, explain, predict, and change our personal worlds.
Convenient. Today’s instructors and students are busier than ever, so RWP will
provide them with the most essential, educationally-sound assets in the most easily
accessible and user-friendly manner possible.
