Prerequisite: SC/Math 1013 3.00 Applied Calculus I. Math1014 is a sequel to Math1013 and will use the same textbook. If you failed Math1013, you should retake it before you take Math1014. Lectures: Mon, Wed, Fri 9:30 - 10:20 in Vari Hall D. Tutorials: Tutors for all calculus courses are available at the ”Math Lab” in S525 Ross Building: Monday to Friday. It starts from the second week. For the time, check the course website. Textbook: “Calculus-Early Transcendentals” (Brooks/Cole Publishers) (6th Edition) by James Stewart • Three term tests. Each accounts for 20% of your final. The time is 50 minutes. Grading: • Final exam accounts for 40% (in Dec. 2010) of your final. Drop deadline without receiving a grade: Nov. 12. Important Information and Advice: HOMEWORK: Homework will not be collected. But you are expected to do all of the assigned homework. The amount you learn in this course and the grade you receive will be proportional to the amount of time you spend on doing problems. Problems in tests or final exam are similar to your homework. In particular, you should be able to apply them to examples. You should be able to solve computational and word problems. EXAMS: There will be three in-class 50 minutes tests as noted in the Tentative Schedule and a 3 hour final exam in December scheduled by the Office of the Registrar. Detailed information on each exam will be posted on the course webpage under Exam Information. MARKS: The final exam counts as 40% of your mark, each in-class test (50 minutes exam) counts 20% of your mark. My policy on missed tests: There will be no make-up for a missed in-class test. Upon presentation of documentation of a valid excuse (e.g. a note from your doctor), the corresponding percentage of the in-class test will be added to the final exam. Without presentation of such documentation a grade of zero will be entered for the missed test. If you miss the final exam, you need to complete the required paperwork for deferred standing within the five business days of the final exam. A make-up final exam will be scheduled. Holiday and University Closings: No class in Reading Week: Oct.9-15. The university is closed on Thanksgiving (Oct. 11).
