Lecture Series 2012 Invites you to a Two-Day Retreat by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo on EIGHT VERSES FOR TRAINING THE MIND BY LANGRI TANGPA Composed by the Buddhist Master Langri Tangpa (1054-1123), Eight Verses for Training the Mind is a highly-revered text from the Mahayana Lojong (mind training) tradition. These instructions offer essential practices for cultivating the awakening mind of compassion and wisdom. This eight-verse Lojong enshrines the very heart of Dharma. By way of these treasured practices we eliminate our competitive, selfish, and reactive nature, as well as our false and exaggerated concepts of self (also called self-grasping and self-cherishing). Therefore, these precious lojong practices can purify our misperceptions and delusions completely, revealing our true nature. H.H. the Dalai Lama refers to this work as one of the main sources of his own inspiration and includes it in his daily meditations. HOW TO PUT BUDDHA DHARMA INTO PRACTICAL USE “Initially it was very difficult to know how to begin raising interest and funds for a nunnery. I am not an incarnate Rinpoche or even a Tibetan. In addition, I have a female body within a patriarchal tradition. Since I could not bestow empowerments or blessings, what might I offer that could be useful? So I began to deliver Dharma talks, sharing the experience of spiritual practice with audiences made up predominantly of lay people with families, jobs, and a regular social life. This is very different from the times when Dharma was mainly delivered to monastic gatherings. As I travel around the world, my concern has always been, How can the Dharma be of help to people in everyday life? How can the Dharma be used to lighten our lives and give meaning to our existence?” - Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, Into the Heart of Life, 2011 Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a renowned Buddhist teacher, popular worldwide for her warm, clear and down-to-earth presentation of the Dharma and its application in daily life.
