Guru Rinpoche statue FINAL STAGE
Phase 2 Construction Still Requires $220,000
In our last newsletter we sought
100 benefactors to each donate
$2,800 to fund the second phase
steel construction. Unfortunately
we did not reach our goal. We did
however gain the support of some
precious benefactors who have
helped us to fund over $60,000 for
shear walls. Many thanks to these
benefactors who include Venerable Yeshe Chodron (India), John
Waite, Therese Bottomley, Brian Ashen and Judith-Ann Robertson,
Ms Mary Song and Kam Saraswati.
SYMBOLS OF COMPASSION ART EXHIBIT
Rejoice! The Guru Rinpoche
statue was consecrated by
His Holiness on June 7th.
While the statue is fully funded, a further $5000 is required
to build the house around
the statue and to construct
the throne. All donations are
welcome. Many thanks to the
many donors to date, especially the major benefactors Dianne Jack, Florence Chew, Lien Quach and Huang Chun
Roo’s friends in Taiwan.
Andy Weber course
Traditional Buddhist art by international artists is currently showing at
The Great Stupa Exhibition Centre.
The paintings and prints in this
show have been made by contemporary Western artists from Australia
and overseas according to ancient
Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The
work of Andy Weber is included.
Many of these beautiful works - including cards and posters - may be obtained by donation.
Andy Weber is widely recognised as a modern master of
the traditional art of Tibetan Buddhism. Andy will provide a 4-day workshop in mid-October at Atisha Centre.
Please contact Atisha Centre’s office for further details and
to register for this course: +61 3 5446-3336.

the Jade buddha to be
completed by december
The Jade Buddha Project is one of the largest and most
magnificent Buddhas ever carved from gemstone-quality
true jade. The Buddha, including lotus and alabaster throne
will be nearly 3.5 metres (11.4 feet) tall. The Jade Buddha will
be carved from the great boulder known as “Polar Pride”. It
will be a wonder of the world. It will be carved by December
of this year!
Lama Zopa Rinpoche said “It will illuminate the world and bring
inconceivable peace and happiness and help prevent the destruction
that is happening so much in the world, including war.”

“This Stupa will be very significant for Buddhist spirituality and Tibetan culture.”
Anyone who has recently visited
the Great Stupa Exhibition Centre
will be impressed by the changes
that our new exhibition centre
manager Marie Pienne has made
since taking over in April.
The Great Stupa has reached the stage where it needs the
services of an inspired landscape architect / designer to
prepare plans for the grounds around the Great Stupa. A
knowledge of the local area and Buddhism is ideal.

The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is being built at
Atisha Centre near Bendigo. It will be the same size and
design as the Great Stupa of Gyantse that was built in Tibet in
the 15th century. The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion
will be a symbol of peace in the world. It will also be a place
of pilgrimage for Buddhists of all traditions. Located next
to the Stupa are Atisha Centre and Thubten Shedrup Ling
Monastery.

Become a Jade Buddha
Carving Benefactor
This is a unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part
of a massive holy object for the world. We are seeking 108
carving Benefactors to each contribute $1080. Each will have
their name carved into the throne of the Jade Buddha (and
probably gold-leafed). These names will be part of the statue
for as long as it exists.
We already have 40 Carving Benefactors and seek only 68
more. The Buddha will be carved by December, so these
names must be finalised by October this year. We allow up to
22 characters (including spaces) for the names.
Carving benefactors can securely donate on line. Also
magnificent jade mala gifts can be obtained by donors. See
details at www.jadebuddha.org.au.
