Lakehead University’s Thunder Bay Campus is located
on a 117.5 hectare site. Lakehead University has
ten faculties: Business Administration; Education;
Engineering; Natural Resources Management; Graduate
Studies; Northern Ontario School of Medicine; Health
and Behavioural Sciences; Science and Environmental
Studies; Social Sciences and Humanities; and Law. The
teaching faculty includes 287 full-time members at
the Thunder Bay campus. The university library, which
is the largest library in northwestern Ontario, consists
of the Chancellor Norman M. Paterson Library and the
Education Library.

Lakehead University’s Thunder Bay campus is situated
at the head of Lake Superior. The campus features a
beautiful, natural environment including the McIntyre
River and Lake Tamblyn. Interested students can learn

athletic facilities; and talk with current students and
faculty members about the program in which they are

Scholarships
High‑ranking students are automatically considered
for Lakehead University Entrance Scholarships. The
scholarship average is calculated based on students’
highest six 4U/M grades, available at the time of the
offer.
Academic entrance scholarships will be extended in
two rounds. Firm scholarships will be extended in May
2013 based on the highest six 4U/M midterm and/or
final grades received by that time. Upon receipt of final
grades in July 2013, the scholarship value may increase
only upon the final grade average.

Student Accessibility Services
Student Accessibility Services coordinates services and
facilitates academic accommodations for students with

Lakehead University residence has accommodations for
1,165 students. Eight building structures comprise the
residence: Prettie Residence, Bartley Residence, Halliday
Hall Residence, three “phases” of townhouses and two
apartment buildings. The townhouses and apartments
are reserved for upper‑year students. Residence
accommodation in Prettie, Bartley or Halliday Hall
Residences requires the purchase of a meal plan that
operates seven days a week and provides three meals
a day. The meal plan is optional for townhouse and
apartment residents.

For international students who meet Lakehead
University’s admission requirements, but whose English
Language Proficiency test scores fall below the required
cut-offs, you may be considered for admission through
the Lakehead English Language Program (ELP). Based
on the results of an English language test that students
will be given when they arrive at Lakehead University,
students will be admitted to one of the five ELP levels.
If test results indicate that students’ proficiency level
is high enough that they do not need to complete
the ELP, they will continue directly into their degree
program.

Co‑op Education
Lakehead University offers students the opportunity to
include a co‑op experience with their degree program.
Programs that offer co‑op options are indicated with a
square symbol (n). Students must apply to the academic
unit that sponsors the particular degree program and
selection is based primarily upon academic credentials;
however, consideration is given to relevant background
information that demonstrates the applicant’s aptitude
for co‑op education. Please note that some co‑op
programs begin in year one, while others begin in year
two or three.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Admission
Requirements
An IB Diploma with a total score of 28* in six subjects,
three of which must be at the Higher Level (HL)
with no score less than 4 in any subject, is required.
(*Higher scores may be required for admission to
programs in which the demand for places by qualified
applicants exceeds the supply of available spaces.)

Deferrals
Deferral of admission requests will be considered on
a case-by-case basis for open enrollment programs.
Deferrals will not be considered for limited enrollment
programs, including: Nursing, Visual Arts, Music,
Engineering and the One-Year Bachelor of Education.
All conditions listed on the original offer of admission
must be satisfied before a deferral of admission request
will be considered. If students plan on completing any
further studies at an accredited institution after being
admitted to Lakehead, they will have to re-apply for
admission through the Ontario Universities’ Application

Profile
Lakehead University – Orillia Campus opened phase
one of its permanent facility in September 2010. The
new campus is entirely designed and built to LEED®
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
standards.
The Orillia Campus features an Interdisciplinary
Studies program designed to offer students the chance
to earn an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Sciences
degree and, if they choose, to also earn a Bachelor of
Education degree. The Lakehead University – Orillia
Campus also offers an Honours Bachelor of Commerce
(Administrative Studies) program, Business college
transfer program, as well as an Honours Bachelor of
Social Work degree.
To enable students to leverage their many interests,
Lakehead University’s program offerings at the
Orillia campus are multidisciplinary. Ideal for students
who have broader career interests and aptitudes,
a multidisciplinary degree program provides a
flexible structure that allows for easy selection of
pre‑professional program requirements, along with
subjects that are of greatest personal interest.

Residence Accommodation
Lakehead University – Orillia Campus opened its
brand new, 271-bed residence complex in September
2011. Students who receive an offer of admission,
who complete their residence contract and return the
residence deposit by June 3, 2012, are guaranteed
a space in residence. The new Orillia residence is a
smoke‑free, dormitory-style residence hall that features
a unique, modern design where each student has
their own single room and shares a bathroom with
only one other person. Each floor houses 40 single
rooms, a laundry facility, kitchenette and quiet room.
With a full meal plan included in the accommodation
package, residence hall students can enjoy extra study
and activity time while not worrying about meal
preparation and cleanup.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Admission
Requirements
An IB Diploma with a total score of 28* in six subjects,
three of which must be at the Higher Level (HL)
with no score less than 4 in any subject, is required.
(*Higher scores may be required for admission to
programs in which the demand for places by qualified
applicants exceeds the supply of available spaces.)

students

(AP) Courses”.
Deferrals
Deferral of Admission requests will be considered on
a case-by-case basis for open enrollment programs.
Deferrals will not be considered for limited enrollment
programs, including: Nursing, Visual Arts, Music,
Engineering and the One-Year Bachelor of Education.
All conditions listed on the original offer of admission
must be satisfied before a deferral of admission request
will be considered. If students plan on completing any
further studies at an accredited institution after being
admitted to Lakehead, they will have to re-apply for
admission through the Ontario Universities’ Application
