The Essentials: • $350M hard-rock mining company operating in PNG • Production expected by end of 2013 • 300+ contractors and permanent employees working on a FIFO rotation BACKGROUND & SCOPE Globe 24-7 commenced the assignment in May 2011 with the immediate scope to conduct a review of the Client’s project workforce plan, as it moved from construction into the operational phase. The review included assessing the proposed crew rotations working on a FIFO roster and determining if it was an accurate reflection of the manpower required once in operations. Additionally, the Client sought to understand all Human Resource-related issues associated with the transition to operations, giving consideration to matters such as; recruitment, training, staff budgeting and the organisational structure for both contractors and permanent personnel. OUR SOLUTION Globe 24-7’s Brisbane-based Senior HR Consultant was appointed to manage the assignment and commenced by gathering the Client’s manpower data, to validate the assumptions made in the original planning phase. After a series of stakeholder meetings, workshops and analysis, the Consultant presented the findings and recommendations in a final management report to the key stakeholders. THE RESULTS The report that was presented, and endorsed by the Client, covered a full review of the proposed workforce plan plus explored the Client’s organisational structures, systems and processes as it transitioned from construction to operations. The report also became a valuable discussion paper for senior management to consider what internal factors and external pressures were before them in the next phase of their evolution, to ensure a robust Human Resource strategy was developed for 2012 and beyond. “This assignment provided a great opportunity to work on a client’s HR and manpower needs as they moved into the operational phase and presented numerous challenges, given the truly unique nature of the project. We took a very consultative approach that helped the Client explore the short and long term issues that were before them and presented different organisational strategic, operational and budgetary options and priorities. It was great to work with such a human resource focussed organisation.” Andre Boucher - Globe 24-7 Senior HR Consultant, Brisbane Perth | Brisbane | Ulaanbaatar | London | Toronto | Bogotá | Johannesburg | Accra | Port Louis | w w w. g l o b e 2 4 - 7 . c o m 1 Globe 24-7 Human Resource Consulting HR SERVICES WHY CLIENTS CHOOSE GLOBE 24-7 Globe’s Human Resources Consulting division delivers short and long-term HR management support to both site and head office locations within the international resources sector.
