The 712 Investment Group is a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled, compassionate financial
professionals with more than 100 years of combined financial services experience.
Working independently dating back to the early 1980s, a formal team arrangement was
made in 1996 to enhance our ability to offer personalized advice and guidance.
Fast forward to 2014, and The 712 Investment Group is now entrusted with approximately
$2.76 billion in client balances* for three segments of clients:

2.Foundations and Endowments (public and private)

John began his career at Merrill Lynch in 1982. As the founder of The
712 Investment Group, John was a pioneer in the idea of teaming within
the industry. As the financial services area was becoming more and more
complicated, he believed that a team approach was the most appropriate way
to service clients. It was at that point that he formed The 712 Investment
Group and started bringing together our multidisciplinary team of highly
skilled professionals. The vast market knowledge John brings to the team and
his clients stems from his 33 years in the industry and his voracious reading
of current events, changes and developments in the investment world. He
focuses on trust and estate planning services for ultra-high-net-worth clients
and works with a select group of individuals and families. In addition, John
offers financial advice and guidance to a number of nonprofit and philanthropic
organizations. John earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from
Pace University in New York City. He serves on the Valley Hospital’s committee
of financial and estate planning professionals in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Additionally, he is a mentor to young financial services professionals beginning
their careers in the industry.
Richard S. Wald, CRPC®

Richard began his career with Merrill Lynch in 1986. As a founding member
of The 712 Investment Group, Richard heads the team’s West Coast operation
and focuses on assisting high-net-worth clients with retirement and wealth
management strategies. Richard holds the Chartered Retirement Planning
CounselorsSM (CRPC®) designation. He was recognized by Barron’s as one of
the Top 1,000 Financial Advisors in 2013. He was also named to Barron’s list
of Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in 2014. Richard received dual bachelor’s
degrees in marketing management and broadcast journalism from the
Newhouse School at Syracuse University. He and his wife, Jillian, live in
Alamo, California, and have two daughters. Prior to joining the firm, he was
a marketing analyst and associate producer for ABC News.

Travis joined Merrill Lynch in 1993 and was one of the original members of

over their lifetime and for future generations. Travis is a graduate of the
University of Vermont with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He and his wife,
Kristle, live in Bedford, New York, with their three children.

Brian began his career in financial services in 1998 and joined Merrill Lynch

assets and manage risk. Brian can access the services of Bank of America
Merrill Lynch Consulting Services to assist endowments and foundations in
the design of their investment policy statements. He graduated from Villanova
University in Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He volunteers
with the Catholic Youth Organization by coaching basketball to children ages
6-10. Brian and his wife, Jennifer, live in Manhasset, New York, with their five

John joined Merrill Lynch in 2002 and focuses on helping individuals and

update their investment policy statements. Additionally, John assists small
business owners and entrepreneurs with the design and implementation of
their tailored retirement solutions. John earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL
PLANNERTM certification awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board
of Standards, Inc. and holds the Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM
(CRPC®) designation. John is also a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in
addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue
their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined
strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill Lynch
model portfolios and third-party investment strategies. When servicing clients
through the firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Portfolio Manager may

Michael joined Merrill Lynch in 2002 after spending a year with a fund
accounting and management group. He focuses on assisting both large

non-qualified retirement offerings, including operations, conversions,
selection and monitoring of providers, investment selection and monitoring,
and employee communication and education.
Michael holds the Certified 401(k) Professional (C(k)P®) and the Chartered

from the National College of Ireland with a bachelor’s degree in European

Group in 2005. Working with Richard Wald in the West Coast office, she provides

facilitate operational requests. Additionally, Nessa assists Michael Smyth in helping
meet the needs of retirement plan sponsors and focuses on employee education
and communication. Prior to joining the team, Nessa worked as the Financial
Planning Specialist for Merrill Lynch’s Manhattan East office. She is a graduate of
Drexel University in Philadelphia and has a bachelor’s degree in finance. She lives
in San Francisco and volunteers her time with the International Rescue Committee
