Students will experience entrepreneurship first-hand through an immersion experience, and will acquire the skills and process knowledge needed to create their own innovative for-profit solution to a real-world market opportunity. ECON 116 Survey of Economic Ideas (3 credits) – The important conclusions of economics are surveyed and applied to topics chosen by the instructor. Especially valuable to students with no high school background in economics. or (not open to students who have credit in ECON 201 or 202) ECON 201 Elementary Microeconomics (3 credits) – A study of why people specialize as producers and exchange what they produce with others. Includes analysis of how market structure affects prices. Discusses the issue of whether selfinterested economic behavior promotes or hinders society. ACC 200 Accounting for New Ventures (3 credits) - ACC 200 is a survey course focusing on financial projections and basic accounting for non-accountants. Students will learn how to build financial models for a new venture, and understand financial statements. Emphasis will be placed on the creation of financial projections for the purpose of launching new ventures. (Prerequisite: ECON 116 or ECON 201; MGT 241) FIN 243 Finance for New Ventures (3 credits) – FIN 243 is a survey course examining the financing options available for launching and financial principles for managing new ventures. Students will learn how to approach various funding sources, manage the financial condition of a new venture, and eventually exit the business. (Prerequisite: ECON 116 or ECON 201; MGT 241) MGT 342 Marketing for New Ventures (3 credits) – MGT 342 is a survey course covering the principles of market research and marketing. Students will learn how to perform market research and test the demand for a product/service, determining its market feasibility. In addition, they will learn how to create a marketing plan that includes their decisions regarding product, promotion, price and distribution. (Prerequisite ECON 116 or ECON 201; MGT 241) MGT 345 Managing New Ventures (3 credits) – MGT 345 is a survey course highlighting the foundational principles and best practices for managing the start-up process, and the human resources involved in new venture creation. Students will learn how to plan the business launch and operations, as well as how to select, train, compensate, and promote employees. (Prerequisite: ACC 200; FIN 243; and MGT 342)
