YEARS YEARS OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 1994–2014 1994–2014 ANNUAL REPORT The Central SC Alliance (CSCA) is a full-service professional economic development organization, which was founded in 1994. CSCA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, public/private partnership which engages in the recruitment of capital investment and job creation for the central region of South Carolina. Since inception, CSCA has worked with its partners in bringing over $10.1 billion in capital investment and 61,588 jobs. The CSCA is South Carolina’s oldest regional economic development alliance, with a seasoned 10 member staff consisting of over 150 years of economic development and business experience. The CSCA represents 9 counties to include Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, as well as the City of Columbia, in all their economic development efforts. A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CEO This year, the Central SC Alliance celebrates a very significant milestone, its 20th Anniversary. In 1994, a group of public and private sector leaders saw the need to create a regional approach to economic development. The core mission was quite simple then and holds true today — the attraction of jobs and investment. Organized as a 501(c)(3) not-forprofit corporation, the Alliance became South Carolina’s first regional development alliance designed to “lessen the burden of government” and eliminate duplication of efforts. This vision and the organization created out of it has resulted in regional collaboration and the creation of prosperity for the citizens in central South Carolina. Over the past 20 years, the Central SC Alliance, along with its partners and allies, has worked with a host of companies who have considered a location in our region. Since 1994, over 570 companies have announced a location or expansion in the region and committed to over $10.1 billion in capital investment and 61,588 new jobs. These numbers are a testament to the visionary leadership provided by our Board of Directors, our staff, the counties we represent and their local developers, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, our community advocates as well as our investors, allies, and friends who continue to believe in the creation of prosperity for those who live in central South Carolina. Looking forward, we believe South Carolina and specifically our 9-county region is well positioned for another 20-years of strong economic development growth. It is imperative we continue to work together, pool resources, and advocate for our communities. We compete daily for capital investment and jobs on a global scale and together we are a formidable competitor. We thank each of you for your financial support, partnership, and friendship over the past 20 years. We are confident in the growth and prosperity of the region over the next 20 years, and we look forward to counting on each of you for your continued support in helping ensure wealth creation in our communities. Together we can assure that our best days are ahead of us. Thank you. As a result of their ability to identify companies that have a genuine interest in discovering more about the central SC region, we have been able to converse with over 500 C-level executives through GoToMeeting real time presentations and site visits. This targeted approach is aimed at recruiting companies by crossing over multiple databases to gather corporate intelligence and track companies that have the propensity for capital expansion. This effective tool and approach has allowed our staff to maximize time and resources by focusing on companies that have been pre-vetted rather than chasing unqualified leads. Our primary goal with the program is to convert leads into projects and ultimately to close deals.
