Winsor Food Policy Guidelines for food consumption are based on our shared belief in the importance of respecting community property and the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment. All food, snacks and drinks must be consumed in the dining room. Students are discouraged from bringing food and beverages with them to school for personal consumption. Students in possession of food or beverages must proceed directly to the dining room to consume them there before proceeding to homeroom or classes. Students are allowed to bring bottles containing ONLY water to class. No other drinks are allowed in the classroom. Any food containing peanut or tree nuts, cream fillings, or requiring refrigeration may not be brought to campus. Home baked goods and unlabeled store/bakery treats are not allowed. Food from home must be store/bakery-bought and in packaging that displays a list of all ingredients. Food whose labels read “may contain traces of nuts” or “manufactured in a facility that processes nuts” is not acceptable. Due to Winsor’s long-standing relationship with Dunkin’ Donuts, Bruegger’s, and Bertucci’s, food from these purveyors is allowed on campus and at school-sponsored events. Personal lunches, bake sales and faculty appreciation breakfasts continue to be permitted utilizing these guidelines. Please direct any questions to Rick Bernasco, chief financial officer, by email at mailto:rbernasco@winsor.eduor at (617) 912-1319. Food may not be distributed to student mailboxes or lockers (e.g. no sports “secret psych” food); all food found in student mailboxes, homerooms or hallways will be confiscated. Exceptions in Upper School: Because Upper School clubs meet during lunch periods, students may take their lunch on a tray to the assigned meeting location. All lunch items (leftover food, utensils, plates, trays, etc.) must be returned to the dining room. Food may be consumed in advisory when supervised by the advisor. These exceptions rely on the assumption that all members of the school community will pick up after themselves. Note: Under no circumstances is peanut butter allowed outside of the dining room. If a student is in possession of food in a way that is not consistent with the guidelines above, she will be required to safely discard the food or drink immediately.
