Transform raw gourds into unique ornaments ready

Make and glaze 1-2 terra cotta tiles with the cuerda seca method, an ancient technique using wax resist to create intricate designs and combine
many different colors.

Learn to use a plasma cutter and basic welding techniques with mild steel

Kids in grades 1-5 can join us for enriching, educational
activities on Chautauqua Professional Development
Days. Parents bring children to Vashon Allied Arts
between 8:30-9 am on PDD late start mornings and the Chautauqua
bus takes them to school at 11:30 am. The fall line-up includes Improv
Games with Martha Enson, Musical Exploration with Lelavision, Percussion with Todd Zimberg, Art of Balance with Barbara Gustafson, and
more. Save by purchasing the 6-session Full Series. Fee includes snack
and art supplies. Late Start Arts is also open to homeschoolers.

POETRY SLAM

Discover slam poets and throw down your
own stuff. Whether you’re a rapper, a poet,
new school or no school, become a wicked
wordsmith. Susan Lynch MFA is a graduate of Reed College, where she
studied with slam poetry champion Crystal Williams. A published poet
and songwriter, with songs recorded by Joan Jett, Susan studied literature
and poetry at Oxford.
CLAYMATION
Ages: 8-12

Play with clay in front of the camera and create short animated sequences
using your hands, some patience and animation software to record it all.
Kids will come away with a working knowledge of how to create their
own claymation films. Students should bring an iPad or laptop if possible.

Join us for three days of art in nature during Chautauqua Elementary School teacher conference days. Use sticks, stones and
cones to make your own unique creations.
Design walking sticks, make personalized monograms and wreaths,
build stone cairns, create specially adapted cone creatures. Bring your
imagination and love of nature!

COMIC BOOK BLITZ
Ages: 9-14
Saturdays, Nov 8 & 15,
10 am-3 pm
Tuition: $125 Member,

Instructor: Bill Jarcho
Create a comic book from start to finish in just 2 days! Learn to import
drawings into Photoshop and use “Comic Life” software to bring your
stories to life. Bill Jarcho is an animation director, teacher and cartoonist with over 25 years of professional experience. Students should bring
sketchbook and an iPad or laptop if possible.
SUZUKI VIOLIN LESSONS
Ages: 4-18
Instructor: Gaye Detzer
The Suzuki approach is based on the philosophy that young children learn music just as
they learn to speak their native language –
through regular listening, developmentally appropriate instruction and
frequent opportunities to play alone and with others. Gaye has been a
Suzuki teacher for 40 years. Students can register for 15, 30 or 45 minute
