Learners will learn basic math and language skills. ENGLISH FOR BEGINNERS This is a multilevel language course where all four skills are taught. Learners learn different topics for daily activities,including vocabulary and pronunciation. Basic/High Basic Grammar and dialogues are practiced along with reading and basic writing. ESL BASIC COURSES - Levels 1-4 BASIC ENGLISH This language course is for basic level learners who want to improve their English. Learners learn to speak, read and write English for daily activities. Learners do basic grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation activities. EVERYDAY ENGLISH This language course is for basic level learners who want to learn, speak, read and write English for daily activities. ESL 1-2 This language course is for basic level learners who want to learn, speak, read and write English for daily activities. Learners learn basic grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. IMPROVING YOUR ENGLISH Learners will improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for everyday situations. ESL 2-3 In this course, learners will practice reading, writing, listening and speaking. This course will help improve vocabulary and pronunciation skills. ESL 2-4 Learners will improve their grammar, listening, speaking and writing skills by doing exercises, and participating in conversations. LISTENING & SPEAKING for BEGINNERS In this class, learners are able to practice listening and speaking skills. Learners also practice basic pronunciation and problem sounds. BASIC 4 SKILLS This is a basic 4 skills program that focuses on the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students will be engaged in TASK BASED and REAL WORLD type activities that will allow them to develop fluency at the basic level. This course helps learners to become more fluent in English. Learners can develop and improve listening skills for work, study and daily routines. ADVANCED SKILLS DEVELOPMENT This course teaches listening, speaking, reading and writing at an advanced level. There is a focus on correct grammar usage and speaking fluency. Workplace communication is also a focus. The course is a prerequisite for TOEFL & IELTS or a University or College test. READING & WRITING Learners will improve reading & writing skills for everyday life. Learners will learn reading and writing strategies to improve their English. The course will emphasize common grammar and vocabulary errors in IELTS, pronunciation features of English and problematic aspects of connected speech that lead to the absence of precision in listening comprehension. ACADEMIC READING & WRITING FOR IELTS This course is an advanced academic reading and writing course which provides an opportunity for learners to learn and practice the skills needed for reading academic essays and writing tasks 1 and 2 of academic IELTS with a minimum band score of 7 – 7.5 requirement. This course teaches academic competences, such as: academic IELTS examination procedures, listening comprehension & note-taking skills, solid speaking skills for general, formal, and academic settings, effective reading-comprehension of academic and general texts, practical writing skills for general, formal, and academic contexts, successful time management while implementing exam components. ACADEMIC ENGLISH FOR COLLEGE AND VOCABULARY Learners will enhance their proficiency in using English at an academic level. Introductory college course texts and lectures are used for reading and listening exercises, and academic topics are used for speaking and writing lessons. COMMON ERRORS & GRAMMAR IN IELTS This course is an advanced English language error detection and elimination course across grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and pronunciation which provides an opportunity for students to spot their errors. The ultimate goal of this course is to empower students to create error-free spoken and written language as required for an advanced IELTS score. ESL WINTER 2016 ESL Course Descriptions ESL ACADEMIC PREPARATION COURSES - Levels 6-9 ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES This course is an advanced course which provides opportunity for students to learn and practice the skills needed at a college/university level, including critic-analytical thinking skills, advanced academic learning strategies, academic vocabulary and advanced grammar. Emphasis will be also on those aspects of advanced sentence structure required for producing academic texts. IELTS This course will teach learners how to achieve high listening, reading, writing and speaking IELTS scores. The course is divided into four modules: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Learners will learn how to prepare for the IELTS exam. Learners will also learn how to manage their time during the exam. The course provides learners with practice tests. COMMUNICATION FOR ENGINEERS This course prepares internationally educated engineering graduates for professional communication in the Canadian workforce. Topics will include: presentation, developing and enhancing meeting, and negotiation skills, language of tactful communication, preliminaries of technical writing, and introduction to the Canadian professional engineering practice. BUSINESS WRITING Learn how to write for business purposes including memos, forms emails, reports and letters. GRAMMAR COURSES - Levels 3-6 GRAMMAR & WRITING This course is designed for intermediate learners to develop their grammar and writing skills. CITIZENSHIP COURSES - Levels 4-8 ENGLISH FOR CITIZENSHIP This course will give students an advantage for the vocabulary and terms they will need to prepare for the Citizenship Preparation course. It will include reading, listening, writing, and speaking modules with a focus on Canada and its culture, political system, history as well as everday English skills CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION This course prepares learners for the Citizenship test.
