Extra Credit (in Alphabetical Order)
Cell phone – Tell your parents to take their old cell phones to Recycle Utah where it will be disposed of
properly. All cell phones contain toxins (poisons).
Envelope (manila) –At home keep your white paper separate from your manila envelopes, newspaper and
colored mail. Keep everything clean and uncontaminated with food or liquids.
Flash card -- Only recyclable with newspaper. At home keep your white paper separate from your newspaper and colored mail unless you have curbside pickup.
Quill pen – It’s hard to find recyclable items that begin with Q. Take your quill pens to a thrift store for reuse!
Rechargeable batteries – Batteries contain acids and other chemicals that are harmful to our water. Take
your batteries to Recycle Utah.
TetraPak Juice – Even though the outside is cardboard, the inside is foil. Any Tetra Pak boxes cannot be
recycled because the layers don’t separate well enough to make a new product.
Used car – Tell your parents to donate your family’s “old clunker” to Recycle Utah! The parts are recycled
separately. Good parts are resold. HazMat fluids are disposed of properly, and windshield washer, brake
fluid and antifreeze is re-sold. Scrap metal is taken to metal dealer.
Vegetable spray – Empty aerosol cans are recycled in the metal bin.
Zipper – Zippers are made of metal and cloth or plastic and cloth. They can be reused if you cut them out
of garments. Or take the whole reusable garment to a thrift store. Reuse is better than recycling!
