I am interested in joining the Education Committee. Having experienced a university wide labour union dispute at the University of Toronto that gravely affected my educational experience, I want to ensure that my new university - UBC - has a strong academic disruption policy. Ensuring that a policy does not infringe on students' rights is very important to me. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the AMS Council as I have summer school during that time. I will be available to work for the Education Committee until Mid-August as I will be out of the country after that period, until early september. Almas Khan Hiring Committee Alina Zhang Kathy Kyungeun Lee, Impact Grant Committee Almas Khan Sindhu Jawed Legislative Procedures Committee: LPC Alina Zhang Mark Bancroft o Hi everyone, I'm interested in sitting as a student-at-large on LPC. I bring with me a great deal of experience in marketing and event management, having worked for various student-life groups around campus, from REC to Campus and Community Planning, as well as for off-campus events like the Vancouver Marathon and this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. I also sat for the past year on the SLCC where I chaired the largest-ever Faculty Cup and have already begun work on next year’s event. I also work as the Executive Projects Assistant overseeing student life initiatives. It’s an area I’m both passionate and knowledgeable about and I would love to continue my work with the Committee in order to help make an impact on student life around campus. Alina Zhang Dan Zhao Fareeha Salahuddin Hannah Xiao Kathy Kyungeun Lee Keni Ng Shrish Srivastava Soohyun Kim Dario Franco Garousian Simran Brar o My name is Simran Brar. Sustainability Projects Committee Julian Yeo Kyle Johnson Soohyun Kim Yiqi (Mitchie) Zhao o I am from Food, Nutrition and Health Program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and we had courses about agriculture, food producing and sustainability such as LFS 100 and LFS 150. I also want to learn more about food services through this position, get involved in the community and help develop AMS at the same time. Zhenni Jiang Sarina Chen o Attending UBC in this past year has reignited my awareness and passion for sustainability. Things as simple as having waste sorting bins around the campus has impacted my life in a significant way. Now I can no longer throw away any garbage freely without feeling a bit guilty for not recycling properly. It is small moments like this that reminded me of the importance of raising awareness for sustainability. As an immigrant who have grown up in China, the environmental challenges that humans face today are much more real to me for that I have experienced what it is like living in a developing country, where drinking water must be purchased and where blue sky is a rare treasure. I want to be a part of the Sustainability Projects Committee because I want people to become aware of how fortunate it is to live in a country with such vast amount of natural resources, and how instead of taking advantages of it, we should take on the responsibility of protecting these resources by living sustainably. Thank you for your time and consideration. Peter Siegler o I am interested in becoming more involved in the UBC community at large in as many ways as possible, and one way in which I wish to do so is by becoming an external correspondent to the AMS. I am also largely concerned with issues related to sustainability, and have tried to keep a focus on sustainable practices while working with the groups in which I am involved on campus, such as the Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society. I would be available to work as a student-at-large for a long period of time, and am willing to commit to this position until April, 2016 as requested. Because of my desire to involve myself long-term with on-campus positions related to sustainability, I feel I would be a good fit for one of the students-at-large on the Sustainability Projects Committee through AMS. Abdullah AbdulSattar Almas Khan University & External Relations Committee: UNECORN Bree Zhang Gregory Woollgar Kathy Kyungeun Lee Evan Gibbard o As the recent NDP electoral revolution in Alberta has shown, the political policies of a region can shift in a moment. The University of British Columbia (UBC) actively engages with different levels of government, allowing it to make informed and inclusive decisions to maximize the quality of life for its students and employees. As I enter my second year, I would be honored to serve on this committee. By applying organizational and communication skills that I have developed through past leadership positions, I would effectively represent the interests of UBC and help the University position itself to thrive. Abdullah AbdulSattar o My name is Abdullah AbdulSattar and I am extremely interested in being a part of the AMS committee. I am enthusiastic for the areas of sustainability projects committee and University & External relations committee. With my prior experience as the President of Pakistan student association for 2 years, I have developed the interest to work for the greater good and hence want to be a part of the AMS committee and give back to the UBC family. Please consider me for a position in the committee. Dario Franco Garousian Jon Parnell Nicholas Fielden Hussam Zbeeb María de Fátima Lazo Delaney Griffiths o I am a recently finished first year Arts student here at UBC. I am very passionate about local and global politics, with aspirations of a major in International Relations and ultimately a career in International Humanitarian Law. Due to my passion for justice and education, I believe I would be a excellent member of the University and External Relations committee. I will gladly lobby to improve the lives and university experiences of my fellow classmates. I have previous been a Student at Large member of Legislative procedures (this past spring), and have held various leadership positions throughout my high school education in organizations which raises funds and awareness to worthwhile causes.
