responsible for meeting any action items and/or deadlines. The bulletin is formatted so that you may utilize it as
a checklist if you so desire. Keep a copy of each bulletin for current and future reference. All bulletins will be sent

Fall Quarter Academic Deadlines — Do not miss!
Please see UCSC Academic and Administrative Calendar 2012-13 for all academic deadlines &
holidays. The Academic Calendar is included in your MA/Credential Handbook or available online at:

CPR (Infant/Child/Adult) classes through the UCSC Recreation Department

Registration opens October 1st for all classes.

The cost is $52 + $14 materials fee.
Sign up ASAP classes fill up quickly.
You may also take this course through your local Red Cross. Red Cross or AHA Heartsaver
Infant/Child/Adult CPR is required. (Online courses not accepted.) Before signing up for CPR
confirm with the agency that a card will be issued to you immediately upon completion of the course.
(Agency letters of completion will not be accepted, you must submit a copy of your card.) Please submit
a copy of your CPR Certification to Kim Jackson’s mailbox (McHenry Room 2140B or the Education
dropbox on the 2nd floor)—final due date is July 2, 2014.
The UCSC Recreation Dept. will offer more CPR workshops in the winter & spring.

Single Subject Candidates: 1st Placement Ends and 2nd Placement Begins
Single Subject students will receive their new placement assignment between the end of October and
the first week of November.
Your online evaluation of your Cooperating Teacher must be completed by November 4.
Please note that you have a break from placements the week of November 4th - 8th, but you will
continue your regularly scheduled UCSC classes that week.

Your new placement begins Tuesday, Nov. 12th and continues through the end of your new placement
school’s calendar.

Fall 2013 Professional Development Events
The Commons has private study rooms, a lounge with microwave and fridge, plus free printing (up to
10 pgs/day).
US Constitution Requirement and Test—Fall Quarter
You may fulfill the US Constitution Requirement through the Education Department test offered
twice per quarter. E-mail Libby White at libbys@ucsc.edu to sign up and receive an electronic study
guide. The tests are free.

Thanksgiving Week
During the week of Thanksgiving week (Nov. 25-29), some (not all) instructors were able to reschedule
classes allowing students travel time for the Thanksgiving Holiday. If your instructor needs to make up
the class hours, he or she will hold class during the week of Dec. 9th (finals week). See individual course
syllabi for details. Please continue to follow the district calendar for your school placement schedule
since district schedules vary during the week of Thanksgiving.

Deadline to Submit Final Undergraduate Transcripts
All non-UCSC degree holders must submit their final transcripts with confirmation of degree for their
credential application. Submit transcripts to Education Dept. Drop-Box outside of McHenry rm. 2163.

Fall Quarter Ends
Fall quarter ends Thursday, Dec. 12th. The last day of classroom placements for Multiple Subjects
students is Friday, Dec. 13th. Single Subject students continue in their 2nd placement until their
school’s winter break.

Multiple Subjects candidates will receive their winter/spring placement prior to winter break and they
will begin their new placement in January, following the local school’s calendar:

The first day of classes for winter quarter is Monday, January 6, 2014 and instruction ends Monday,
March 17, 2014.

Also, please note that you will take your spring break in April (not March) following the school

Dear MA/Credential Students:
The following is information on the two available options for completing the technology requirement. All candidates must complete
the Level 1 Technology requirement for credential eligibility.
OPTION 1: Completion of the approved course through the UCSC Extension Program.
Course XSC209, Technology in Schools will be offered by the Extension Program during Winter intersession and the Summer II
quarters. There will be 2 sections held for both the Winter Intersession and Summer offerings of XSC209. Limited seating is
available in each section, enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis.
XSC 209, Technology in Schools, Introduction (SB 2042 Standard 11)
2 sections for Winter 2013, Dec. 16, 2013 – Jan. 24, 2014
2 sections for Summer 2014, Jun. 16, 2014 – Jul. 18, 2014

THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR BOTH THE WINTER AND SUMMER SECTIONS OF XSC209 IS
DECEMBER 12, 2013.
XSC209 Registration and Enrollment Instructions
Step 1: Preregister for either the Winter Intersession or Summer Section course by sending an email to Kim Jackson
(kljacks@ucsc.edu) by December 12, 2013 Subject your email: “XSC209 – Winter” or ”XSC209 – Summer” and provide all the
following information:
1. Your first and last name
2. Your daytime phone number
3. When you wish to take the course, “Winter” or Summer”.
When I receive your preregistration email, I will email you the appropriate enrollment form, which you will need to complete and
return with your payment to the Extension Program.
Step 2: Register your enrollment and submit payment to UCSC Extension
Once you have preregistered and have received your enrollment form, complete the form including your payment information and
return the form directly to the Extension Program by fax or email. Your enrollment form must be received by the Extension
Program by 5:00 PM, Thursday, DECEMBER 12TH.
OPTION 2: PASSAGE OF THE CSET PRELIMINARY TECHNOLOGY SUBTESTS I & II (test codes 133 & 134)

Cost: $210 ($105/subtest)
Test Dates:
• January 11, 2014 (Registration deadline: December 13, 2013)
• March 8, 2014 Exam (Registration deadline: Feb. 7, 2014)
For credentialing purposes you must report your scores to UCSC and submit a copy of your official score report to Kim Jackson
by July 1, 2014.
The deadline to verify passage of both subtests is JULY 1, 2014
Important: If you do not preregister for XSC209 by December 12, I will assume that you will be taking the CSET Preliminary
Technology subtests I & II.
