
Students will be divided into girls and boys.
Each student shall remove their shoes and separate the pair placing
one shoe on the “girls” table and one shoe on the “boys” table. If a
student does not want to participate, that is fine, they may leave
their shoes on and their shoes can be classified at the end.
Create a flow chart classifying the shoes by first dividing the group of shoes into 2
similar groups, and then dividing these two groups further into similar groups.
Add a title for each group

Analysis:
1. What were some of the common characteristics used to classify the shoes?
2. Did you have any trouble classifying them? Explain
3. Is there more than one way that you could have classified the shoes?
4. Now for the fun part, the first group to reach this question wins… you have a chance to
state which shoe belongs to which person of the opposite sex. (In other words, boys will
identify who owns the girl shoes.) You must provide the name of that person when you
return their shoe. Once all the shoes have been returned to the opposite sex, the other
team will do the same thing.
5. Write 2-3 sentences reflecting on what you learned from the activity.
