Maria is a graduating senior in the Communication
Studies Department at San Jose State University. For
her 198: Applied Activity, Maria decided to become a
tutor in the COMM Lab. She enjoyed helping students
so much, she continued tutoring with the
Communication Studies Department, and is now a
writing consultant for COMM 100W classes. As a
student, she loves to research her passions, and plans
to continue her education in the Communication Studies Department with her
research on masculinity in the media. During her spare time, Maria enjoys
writing short non-fiction stories, reading books, and spending time with her
family.

Hello, all! My name is Emily Mello and I am a junior here at SJSU.
I am excited to be involved with the 100W classes and helping in
anyway I can. I enjoyed my 100w class with Monica Peck, but I do
know how some papers can be overwhelming and you need a
second opinion or need to talk it through with someone and that is
what I am here for! Looking forward to meeting anyone who wants

Hello, whoever is reading this! My name is Andy and I am a VietnameseAmerican student. I am currently a junior transfer from De Anza College as a
Communications major. I have a job as a main baker at a bakery inside Lucky's
supermarkets, so I bake cookies all day! I speak broken Vietnamese and fluent
English. My parents migrated from Vietnam before I was born and my dad was
part of the U.S. Air Force. He was the reason my family was able to come to this
country. For that he is the biggest hero I’ve ever known. I enjoy writing because it
lets my mind wander and flow onto a paper and pen, or in this case a laptop
keyboard. And I would like to share the knowledge that I have learned through
my years as a communications scholar so far.

I am a fourth year student at SJSU. I am set to graduate in the
fall of 2012 with a degree in Communications and a minor in Business. My
interests revolve a lot around cheerleading. I am a cheerleader for SJSU and for
work I am a competitive and developmental gymnastics coach. I really love
working as a coach and teaching people new things as well as helping them refine
the skills that they already have. As a writer, I really enjoy being creative and
detailed. I enjoy plays on words, descriptive writing, and creative formatting.

Hi all! My name is Payal Shah and I am a secondsemester junior majoring in Communication Studies. I
also have a minor in Business, and plan to complete a
second one in Biology before graduation, so I am
familiar with many different styles of writing and their
requirements. I come from a multilingual background
(I speak French, Hindi, and Gujarati fluently) so I’m a
good resource for those having difficulty learning English as a second language. I
write for The Campus Companion twice a week and am very excited to get started
as a Writing Consultant for the COMM Center!

I am a graduating Communications student and I am so
excited to be apart of the new Communications Center as a
writing consultant. I really enjoyed my COMM 100W
experience I am excited to help you with your papers. I have a
passion for writing and I am so excited to read your papers
and give you feedback. When I am not at school, I am working
at an ophthalmologist office in Daly City, or hanging out at my
home in Palo Alto with my fiancé. I enjoy being outdoors and
love to hike, camp, and cheer on my Giants at AT&T Park. I am

Hello, Currently, I am a Junior at San Jose State University
pursuing Business Administration major with emphasis in
Corporate Finance. My long-term goal is to work for Nonprofits. Prior to moving to the US, I have worked for several
organizations in India in Marketing, Administration, and
Website Development projects. Growing up in Mumbai, I
learnt to speak 8 languages, but I am most proficient in
English. I love to connect with people from diverse
backgrounds, so it is only natural that I am always eager to
learn about communicating with others. I am spontaneous,
enthusiastic, and romantic! And these traits reflect in my
writing. I see being a Writing Consultant as a great opportunity and privilege to
work with other aspiring writers. Together we will succeed! You can count on me
to be supportive and patient, as you explore your writing skills.
