Computer Engineering By: Trokon Gaye 1. Job Description Computer engineering, also called computer engineering, is a discipline that integrates several fields of electrical engineering and computer science required to develop computer systems.[1] Computer System engineers usually have training in electronic engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronic engineering. Computer System engineers are involved in many hardware and software aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. This field of engineering not only focuses on how computer systems themselves work, but also how they integrate into the larger picture. 2. What Major? Salary Because there is such a high demand for computer engineers, you can expect a very competitive paycheck. The average computer engineer salary is around $90,000 annually. The starting salary of a computer engineer fresh out of college is just over $60,000 a year. With the right experience and specializations however, your salary can be over $130,000 per year. 5. Working Environment: Your work environment will largely depend on what field you choose to specialize in. The specializations include artificial intelligence, computer systems, computer architecture, computer networks and integrated circuits, as well as systems and computations. This can lead you to work in a pretty standard sector like an office building or a state of the art robotic research center. Regardless of where you will end up, you will be required to deal with other professionals and be able to coordinate with them on projects. Depending on the project size you may also have to double as an electrical engineer. 6. Multiple Intelligence Scores Bodily Kinesthetic Strong mind-body connection Controlling and coordinating body movement Improving body functions Expanding body awareness to all senses Using the body to create products or express emotion Intrapersonal Seeing thing from others perspectives Noticing moods, intentions, and temperaments of others Communicating verbally and nonverbally Creating and maintaining relationships I believe that I do possess some of these traits. According to the textbook, Majors for: Bodily-Kinesthetic –Massage or Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, Construction Engineering, Sports Medicine, and Dance or Theatre. Internships – Sports physician’s office, Physical or massage therapy center, Construction Company, Dance studio or theater company, Athletic club Intrapersonal Majors- Education, Public Relations, Nursing, Business, Hotel/ Restaurant Management Internships- Hotel or Restaurant, Social service agency, Public relation agency, Public relations firm, Human Resources department, Charter School I would consider Construction engineering, Sports Medicine, Education, and Mangement 7. Personality Survey INTJ According to the website intj : Able to absorb extremely complex theoretical and complex material Driven to create order and structure from theoretical abstractions Supreme strategists Future-oriented See the global, "big picture" Strong insights and intuitions, which they trust implicitly Value their own opinions over others Love difficult theoretical challenges Bored when dealing with mundane routine Value knowledge and efficiency Have no patience with inefficiency and confusion Have very high standards for performance, which they apply to themselves most strongly Reserved and detached from others Calm, collected and analytical Extremely logical and rational I believe that I can relate to most of these traits. After researching the computer engineering career I believe that it is going to be a very tough career to pursuit. But I am willing to do it because its something I think I could do every day and they make plenty money.
