1. DGP for the genetics program: Welcome to Jim Mahaffey, taking over as director of the genetics
graduate program starting in the spring semester. And a big thank you to Stephanie Curtis for her many
years of service in that role. They'll be working closely together through the remainder of this year to
ensure a smooth transition. Great job, Stephanie, and thank you, Jim! And for everyone else: tell all the
talented undergraduates you know to apply (and not just in genetics!)
2. Rob Dunn announces a new course to be offered this spring: Community Ecology of Humans. See
attached pdf for further information.
3. Department of Biological Sciences (formerly Biology) Graduation Ceremony to be held December
18th at 1:00 at Carmichael Gym. Please see attached document for further information. Legacy Biology
faculty should plan to attend. The Microbiology Graduation Ceremony will be held at 1:30 that day, 356
Witherspoon Student Center.
4. Dr. Jenny Campbell was featured recently on UNC-TV: “What’s My Story: Zoologist Jenny
Campbell” -- and don't miss her in the video: Horse Sense!
5. Congratulations to Jason Flores on his selection by the University as one of four QEP Faculty

6. This in from Dr. Anita Flick: The Health PAC (Health Professions and Advising Center) has launched a
new website: http://hpac.dasa.ncsu.edu/ The purpose of the site is to help guide students as they prepare for
the application process for graduate work in healthcare. Take a look!
7. ByLaws: Reminder to faculty: Please vote yes/no to accept the ByLaws using the Google poll by
Friday, this week.
You must be logged into your NCSU google account to vote.
