THE THREE EMPERORS LEAGUE A brief summary THE COLLABORATORS AND FORMATION The three emperors league consisted of Emperor Franz Joseph I of AustriaHungary, Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany and Tsar Alexander II of Russia. It formed on October 22 nd 1873 for the first time. Otto Van Bismark was the one whome had negotiated the agreement He was trying to revive the Holy Alliance of 1815 The Schnönbrunn Convention that was signed by Russia and Austria-Hungary, June 6th 1873 BACKGROUND Issues concerning the maintenance of power balance in Europe were usually handled by Bismarck Many believed this to be an important part of his political philosophy Violence persisted when Germany was united even after their victory in the Franco-Prussian war, they didn’t want to reluctant to provoke the French, but limited them. DISSOLUTION AND REVIVAL Disbanded in 1875 over conflicting ideas about Balkan territory The full conclusion occurred in 1879 where it gave way to the dual alliance The Three Emperors League was revived on June 18 1881, but lived only for three years, revived again in 1884, but lapsed one final time in 1887. The League kept collapsing because of colliding territorial interests between Austria-Hungary and Russia for the Balkans
