FREE MONEY!! SCHOLARSHIPS CAN REALLY PAY OFF
Entrance Scholarships: Most colleges and universities offer entrance scholarships to first year students. These scholarships can range from
$1,000 to $30,000 payable to successful students over a four year period. Check out the websites and calendars of the post-secondary
institutions you plan to attend to find out what awards are offered, and what criteria the awards are based on.
Affiliation Scholarships: These scholarships depend on a link between you and the sponsoring organization, and they tend to be the most
numerous and accessible. Think in terms of unions, clubs or organizations you or your family members belong to and ask if they have
scholarships you could apply for.
Provincial Scholarships: These are based on the Provincial Examinations you write for academic courses and range in value from $1,000 to
$2,500. The awards can only be used for tuition at designated post-secondary institutions. Best of all, you don’t have to apply for these ones.
Bursaries: A bursary is like a grant. Bursaries are awarded based on financial need. Applications can be filled out at the financial aid and
award office at the post-secondary institution you plan to attend.
Passport to Education: Passport awards are given to students based on academic achievement in Grades 10, 11 and 12. The awards have the
following values: Grade 10 - $250; Grade 11 - $250; Grade 12 - $500.
District Dogwood Scholarships: These scholarships worth $1,000 are given to graduating students who excel in one of the following areas:
fine arts, applied skills, physical activity, second languages, community service and technical & trades training.
Secondary School Apprenticeship Scholarships: Students in the apprenticeship program can earn a $1,000 scholarship by successfully
completing SSA 11A, 11B, 12A and 12B, maintaining a C+ average or better in their Grade 12 courses, and continuing working or training
full-time in the trade for at least five months after secondary school graduation.
School Awards: There are a number of scholarships, awards and bursaries that are given away during the school leaving ceremonies in June.
School awards are based on academic achievement and other criteria specified by the award’s sponsor. You will need to fill out a current Earl
Marriott Scholarship Application form and submit it to Ms. Domingo or Mr. Webster by the specific deadline.
This document lists only some of the scholarships available to high school students entering a post-secondary institution in the fall or winter
session of their graduating year. The deadlines in this booklet are guidelines. Dates are subject to change or may differ by one or two days to
ensure that the deadline continues to fall on a weekday. While every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information presented in this
document, it remains the student’s responsibility to confirm information presented with the granting organization. Pay attention to morning
announcement and school monitors for more info.
