POSITION: HOUSING MANAGER SALARY RANGE: $32,000 - $36,000 REPORTS TO: EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time Exempt Executive Director GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Housing Manager primary responsibility is to perform administrative tasks that will ensure the quality of services at the shelter and transitional housing. This will include providing support to the case management and crisis intervention functions for victims of domestic violence and their children, as well as work as a member of the management team. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The key duties and responsibilities of the Housing Manager are divided into two categories: administration and advocacy support. The specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Administration – Housing Staff Under the supervision of the Executive Director, hire, supervise, and evaluate all paid and volunteer housing staff. Build staff competencies for each job position. Foster paid and volunteer staff team building efforts within the program. Prepare a work schedule for all shelter staff. Create and implement plans for professional growth with assistance of supervisors. Coordinate training for paid and volunteer staff. Administration – Program Support Assist Executive Director and Development team with preparation for grant proposals. Ensure that data reports are accurate and completed prior to deadlines. Establish and document appropriate service provision protocols and procedures as it relates to the housing environment. Implement policies that address residential rules, safety, confidentiality, and services. Participate in agency fundraising events. Represent Safe Embrace with professionalism and courtesy. Implements emergency procedures when necessary and conducts periodic safety drills. Creates and documents a schedule for shelter maintenance, supply needs and repairs to the Executive Director. Review and follow program budget for housing programs. Maintain accurate records of expenditures. Work closely with administrative staff to maintain program budget. Participates in all program staff meetings, in-service training, conferences, and meetings as required. Regularly communicate with Executive Director; to include shelter and transitional housing program and residents, staff, volunteers, and policy. Advocacy Support Occasionally answer hotline calls and document accurately. Respond to hotline calls in a timely manner. Respond to emergencies at shelter in a timely manner. Ensures initial intake, crisis counseling and orientation with new shelter residents and exit interviews with residents leaving the shelter are conducted timely, accurately, and thoroughly. Provides crisis intervention and emotional support, information, and referrals to other service providers and resources. Provides empowering support to residents experiencing discipline problems with children, including education about non-violent methods. Promotes positive resident interaction, offers conflict resolution during disagreements and educates residents about positive communication. Supervises all shelter activities. Conducts weekly housing meetings to devise chore list, menu plan, requests for supplies and to discuss any problems that may arise in the residential setting. Enforces shelter rules and procedures ensuring the basic needs of residents are being met. Systematically review participant case records and assist advocates with on-going casework. Communicates shelter activities and problems with Executive Director. Additional: Performs other job-related tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Education: A bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling or related field or equivalent experience is desirable, but not required. An understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships, and a commitment to preventing violence in the home is needed. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred, but not required. Skills and Abilities: The ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner is required. Excellent organizational, prioritizing, and administrative skills are required. An understanding of and sensitivity to serving a diverse population is required. Flexibility to meet changing needs and crisis situations is required. The successful candidate should be a team player. Being a selfstarter who is willing to take initiative and needs little supervision is preferred and highly desirable. Experience in a management role is highly desired. Physical Requirement: The ability to sit for period up to 3.5 hours. Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 35 lbs. Ability to bend at waist and use of both hands for phone, computer and filing. Ability to climb and descend steps or ladders. Work Experience: One to two years experience in a residential, crisis management, or social service setting is desirable, but not required. A minimum of two years of demonstrated success with program and staff supervision is desirable. Other: Must possess a valid Nevada driver's license, proof of insurance, and successfully pass a child abuse and criminal background check.
