Transfer guides are produced as a service to MCC students. Every effort is made to maintain up-to-date and accurate information; however, this
information is subject to change. Such changes take precedence over the information on this guide. Students should work with an MCC advisor
and check with the four-year school as soon as the transfer decision is made. Responsibility for complying with all applicable requirements
ultimately rests with the student.
Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil, Computer Engineering, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Transfer Options
•
•
Illinois Articulation Initiative General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC) - Completing the IAI GECC prior to transferring
is not recommended. Students should focus on completing prerequisite math and science courses and some courses that
fulfill UIC general education requirements. Course recommendations on this guide provide guidance to UIC’s general
education requirements that can be completed at MCC.
Associate in Engineering Science (AES) Degree - Course recommendations on the following pages of this guide apply to
MCC’s AES degree and to specific engineering majors at UIC. Engineering baccalaureate programs are highly structured and
require extensive, sequential math and science courses at freshman and sophomore levels; some general education courses
are postponed to junior and senior years. The AES degree allows students to take courses in this pattern. (The AES degree
does not include the complete IAI GECC.)
Transfer Application
•
•
•
Application filing period: Spring, July 1 – Oct 15; Fall, Sept 1 – March 31
Applications and credentials must be postmarked by the deadline to receive an admission review.
Online application is required: http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/applyonline/undergrad
Transfer Admission
•
Minimum credits for transfer applicants – minimum of 24 hours at time of application and 36 hours at time of enrollment.
Transfer applicants to the College of Engineering are strongly encouraged to have 60 semester hours of transferable
credit completed at time of enrollment. Following courses are recommended:
o Completed at time of application
ENG151 Composition I
MAT175 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry I
MAT245 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry II
o
Completed at time of enrollment
ENG151 Composition I
ENG152 Composition II
MAT175 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry I
MAT245 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry II
•
•
•
MAT255 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry III
PHY291 Principles of Physics I
CHM165 or PHY292 General Chemistry I or Principles
of Physics II
MAT255 Calculus w/Analytic Geometry III
MAT260 Differential Equations
PHY291 Principles of Physics I
PHY292 Principles of Physics II
CHM165 General Chemistry I
Minimum transfer GPA – For fullest consideration, a 2.50 GPA is recommended for Illinois residents and a 2.75 GPA is
recommended for nonresidents and as a cumulative for all math and science courses. The GPA recommendation does not
guarantee admission. Admission is selective.
Calculation for Transfer Admission GPA – Transfer grades for all baccalaureate-oriented course work attempted and
accepted are used in computing the admission GPA (including those from repeated courses). There is no grade forgiveness
policy.
Transferable college credit is based on course work that UIC evaluates as being similar in nature, content, and level to that
offered at UIC. Course articulation can be accessed through MyCreditsTransfer:
http://www.itransfer.org/mycreditstransfer.aspx.

* You will need an MCC substitution waiver for these courses. They are not ordinarily found in MCC’S AES degree. To assist students in
completing the associate degree and transferring smoothly into UIC’s engineering baccalaureate programs, MCC allows for these course
substitutions. Please ask your MCC academic advisor about the substitution waiver process.
**The College of Engineering requires 15 hours of social sciences, humanities and fine arts coursework. Select courses from list on following
page (Take into consideration courses chosen to satisfy AES requirements in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Non-Western/Minority
Cultures in US). You will need an MCC substitution waiver. Please ask your MCC academic advisor about the waiver process.
