Reference assistance
Late night study
UMUC does not offer reference assistance in McKeldin
Library. You may ask for assistance at the McKeldin
Library Services Desk, however you may be referred to a
UMUC librarian for more in-depth help.
The Late Night Study Card Service has been discontinued
as of September 2014.
You can always contact a UMUC librarian by e-mail,
instant messaging, and phone during regularly-scheduled
hours. Individual consultations are also available. See
http://www.umuc.edu/library/libask for more information
and service hours.
UMUC students may stay at McKeldin Library at the University of Maryland College Park after hours provided that
they are in the building before 11pm. After 11pm students
will not be able to leave and re-enter the building. Please
have your UMUC ID card and driver's license or stateissued ID card ready to present to McKeldin Library staff
on request.
Borrowing privileges
With both a photo ID and current UMUC student ID, you
may borrow books from any University System of Maryland and affiliated institutions (USMAI) library, including
the UMD libraries, or request that books in the USMAI
catalog be delivered to UMD or any other USMAI library
for pick-up. All requests for materials that are not available
through the USMAI catalog must be made through
UMUC’s document delivery program (https://
illiad.umuc.edu/illiad/logon.html).
Database access
Each USMAI library subscribes to its own collection of
library databases. You may use UMD’s library databases
at the public computers at the UMD libraries. UMD databases are not available to you remotely. For remote access
to UMUC’s library databases, available from any
computer (including the public computers at UMD), see
http://www.umuc.edu/library
Printing and photocopying
To use UMD photocopiers or computer printers, you must
purchase a visitors’ copy card from a Copy Card dispenser
(located in all UMD libraries). Cards cost $1. Photocopies
are 10¢ a sheet for black-and-white prints and 50¢ a sheet
for color prints. Computer printing is 10¢ a sheet for black
-and-white printouts and 50¢ a sheet for color printouts.
Money may be added to the cards at the Copy Card dispensers. For more information on UMD printing and photocopying fees, see
www.lib.umd.edu/services/copying-and-printing/home
Computer access
UMUC students may use the public computers found in the
reference area or those located throughout UMD Libraries.
UMUC students, faculty and staff will need to register for a
guest account to use the public computers. Present a photo
ID at a UMD Libraries circulation desk to register for an
account with an expiration of 7 days.
You will find PCs with word-processing, database, spreadsheet, and other software applications available for your use
at all UMUC computer labs and in the UMUC library at
Largo.
