2ndANNUALRALPH MADDUX MOTORCYCLE SHOW – October 2
When locals hear talk of motorcycles in Granville, their thoughts go to the memory of former resident
Ralph Maddux. He bought his first motorcycle at a young age and operated his own motorcycle shop in
Cookeville for 18 years. The Granville Museum will now have an annual Motorcycle Show to honor
Ralph Maddux and his love of the sport.
GALLINIPPERS BLUEGRASS BAND will perform on the back of a 1946 Chevrolet Truck all day
parked on the street at Suttons Store.
AGRICULTURALMUSEUM - 9:00AM
The Granville Museum will dedicate a new expanded Agricultural Museum at 9:00 AM on Heritage Day.
The Ag Museum has been enclosed with a handicap sidewalk that goes thru the entire exhibit. new
exhibits have been developed on the history of tobacco, corn, eggs, farm implements, and blacksmiths, as
well as farmers of Granville. The museum has developed a children’s “Farmer of the Day” program where
visitors can gather farm products that can be bartered at Sutton General Store for candy. These exhibits
were made possible from a grant from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and a State of Tennessee
Enhancement Grant. A special thank you to Senator Charlotte Burks, Representative Les Winningham
and Commissioner ofAgriculture Ken Givens.
TENNESSEE AGRICULTURE MUSEUM - Ellington Center Nashville will have a special display at
Heritage Day telling the story of agriculture in our state.
ART FESTIVAL
Sponsored by Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance will have 40 local artist booths set up with merchandise
for sale on lot behind Sutton General Store.

The Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance operates a Arts & Cultural Center on the second floor of Sutton
General Store. Artist from all over the Upper Cumberland have their work for sale and it is open year

Each year at Heritage Day the museum honors individuals who have been special supporters of the
Granville Community and Museum. The 2010 Awards will go to Ogeal Halfacre Webster and to Systems
Integration of Lebanon.
2010 SPECIALRECOGNITION - 9:15AM
The Museum will honor Julian Dowell for his recent donation of property to Granville Museum and
Granville Cemetery. Granville Museum will dedicated the new sidewalks in memory of Neville Grant,
M.D. The sidewalks were made possible by a donation by the John Deane family in his memory. The
museum will also recognize Granville’s own Coach Jim Brown and the state winner Jackson County High
School Girls Basketball.
TRAILS LEAD TO GRANVILLE:
Promise Land Trail - The Tennessee Department of Tourism has developed numerous trails to show case
our great state. The Promise Land Trail comes up Highway 70 to Chestnut Mound then down Highway 53
to Granville and them up Highway 96 back to Highway 70.
Civil War Trail - Granville will be on the Civil War Trail as Granville has its own marker honoring Col.
Sidney S. Stanton and Thomas Jefferson Lee located on Memory Lane. Granville will be featured on the
State Civil War Trail brochure due to a Granville Street scene photograph submitted by Peggy Clemons.
UPPER CUMBERLAND QUILT TRAIL - Granville is the home of four quilts on buildings that are
part of the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail and Jackson County Trail. They are located at Suttons General
Store, Granville Bed & Breakfast, Beech Hill Blue Bed & Breakfast and Joe &Ann Moore Farm.

2010 MEMORIAL SERVICE – 11:00 AM
The Granville Museum conducts a Memorial Service each year remembering ones from Granville
who have passed away since the past year’s Heritage Day. Anyone who was born or lived sometime
during their life in Granville will be recognized. The families of these loved ones are asked to be a part
of this memorial service. A candle will be lit in the memory of each person who has passed away this
year, as well as anyone else that a family member would like to remember. This service will be
conducted at the Granville Methodist Church by Bro. Terry Little with music by Kay Phipps. Those to

SUTTON OLE TIME MUSIC HOUR
Sutton Ole Time Music Hour is every Saturday night year round at
Sutton’s Store. The warm up show begins at 6:00 PM and the radio taping
at 7:00 PM. Different bluegrass bands perform each week with the
following: April 24 - Barry Scott & Second Wind, May 1 - Hub City, May
8 - Michael Feagan & Cumberland Mountain String Band, May 15 Catoosa Canyon, May 22 - Marty Lanham & Dixie Cafe Band, May 29 The Rigneys, June 5 - 1st Appearance “Sam Stout & Tennessee Central”.
A family style southern meal is served at Sutton’s Store at 5:00 and 6:30

HOT BRASS BAND CONCERT - The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Hot Brass
will perform in concert at Granville Veterans Park Cornwell Stage at 2:00 PM, May 29th in honor of
all veterans. They offer a unique product sure to please music lovers of all types. During the concert,
you are likely to hear rock, funk, jazz, blues, soul, swing and country, as well as the latest pop hits. Hot
Brass serves as musical ambassadors in theAir force.
CORNWELL STAGE - GRANVILLE VETERANS PARK - On May 29th at 2:00 PM a new,
permanent stage at Granville Veterans Park will be dedicated in Memory of W.C. (Bill) & Lois
Cornwell. Bill Cornwell owned the property where the park is, from 1920 until his death in 1959. the
home was known for its beautiful flower garden and landscape. Granville Community Club who
operates the park will use this stage for musical events as well as serving as a location for picnic tables
to be located.
HERITAGE DAY IS FUNDED - Tennessee Arts Commission Grant “The Arts Build Communities
Program” is funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the
TennesseeArts Commission and the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

Listen to stories from the one-room school and much more. At 9:30 AM and 2:30
PM Liz Huff Bennett will share stories from generations of teachers in her family
(Minnie Williams, great grandmother, Vallie Williams, great aunt and Louise
Ragland, aunt). Be prepared to share your favorite school stories. Following the storytelling there
will be a joint reunion of Granville Schools, Liberty, Nameless, Corinth, Trinity and others of the
community.
J.T. WATTS GENERAL MERCHANDISE - Nameless, TN, formerly operated by J.T. &
Virginia Watts will be open on Heritage Day from 9AM to 4 PM.
COL. JAMES WEBB SMITH - In 1808 he obtained 1,600 acress in Holleman’s Bend and
developed a plantation called Beech Hill. He became a leader in Tennessee government and
Jackson County Government. Jonathon Phipps will portray Col. Smith at Halfacre Stage at 11:00
AM and 2:00 PM.
“CIVIL WAR IN GRANVILLE” - Granville has a great history of Civil War activity with the
Cumberland River playing a great part in this. Martin Frost will portray Col. Sidney S. Stanton as
he tells the stories of Granville during this time period. Our Civil War soldiers will also re-enact
past times. This will occur at 1:00 PM on the Halfacre Stage, Memory Lane.
JACK HINSON’S ONE MAN WAR - A Civil War Sniper; author Tom C. McKenney of Marion,
Kentucky will share from his recent book as well as autograph books at 1:30 PM at Halfacre Stage,
Memory Lane.
Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit: “JOURNEY STORIES” at Granville Museum Oct. 2 - Nov.

Journey Stories is a compelling Smithsonian exhibition that shows how our evolving mobility
changed a young nation and how transportation made us grow. The accounts of travelers
themselves express the hopes and promises of fresh starts, the grim realities of forced migrations
and difficult journeys, and the thrills of personal travel. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to visit a
exhibit that is traveling throughout the United States. There is no admission charge and it will be
open Wednesday thru Saturday from 12 - 3 PM. School day visits, as well as other group’s are
encouraged and may be scheduled by calling 931-653-4151.
NEW EXHIBITS GRANVILLE MUSEUM - “The Wheels of the Granville Journey” and
“Settlement of Granville, TN”; two new exhibits have been developed in conjunction with
“Journey Stories” that tell the journey of Granville from Granville County, North Carolina to the
present. These two exhibits are professionally done through a grant from Tennessee Humanities
and assistance of Rob DeHart and Liz Bennett.
GRANVILLE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA - Granville, Tennessee was settled by many
residents from Granville County, North Carolina seeking the “Promise Land” and taking advantage
of land grants for serving in the Revolutionary War. Granville, TN has recently joined together with
Granville County, North Carolina to explore our historical connection. Mark Pace, North Carolina
room specialist at the Richard H. Thorton Library in Granville County, North Carolina will
participate on Heritage Day in the opening ceremony, and present a program at 11:30 AM at
Halfacre Stage called “Granville County, North Carolina connection to Granville, TN.
