Most CUNY schools have free, pre-college programs in a variety of courses. This is a great way to earn free college
credit and get experience with college-level learning.
Students must have a 75+ on the ELA Regents to be eligible and a cumulative GPA of 2.0+ or 2.5+, depending on
which school you apply. Check out all the courses available on the website, then see the specific program
requirements for each school.
College Now courses are available in the Summer (July – August), Fall (August – December), and Spring (January –
May) so there are many opportunities for students to participate in these courses and earn credit.

Baruch College – College Now
Baruch College is located at 25th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
Baruch is top-performing CUNY school and is known for their business classes. The College Now classes include
business, writing, and math courses—and students will earn 3 college credits upon successful completion.

These pre-college courses in downtown Manhattan focus on video arts and technology. Applicants must have a
cumulative GPAof 80 or higher and will earn 2college credits through participation.

City College – College Now
These pre-college courses focus on architecture, theatre, or mock trial. Students earn three or more college credits
for their participation and get a first-hand experience in these challenging fields.

College Focus Summer Program – College Now
The College Focus Summer Program is designed primarily to help high school students avoid remedial coursework
at the City University of New York and qualify for admission to a four-year CUNY college. College Focus classes
prepare students to pass the CUNY Assessment Tests, in order to meet standards for placement into credit-bearing
courses upon entrance to a CUNY college. Eligible students participate in pre- and post-assessment, and complete
a 60-hour course over five weeks. Classes are offered at various CUNY schools.

Hostos Community College – College Now
These pre-college courses focus on digital design, debate, or social justice. Through the Civic Leaders program,
students take a class in American Government and have an internship at a local law office. Applicants must have a
cumulative GPA above a 2.0, and can earn 3 college credits through participation.

Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn has courses focused on social sciences and history. They usually do not offer
summer classes, and most classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. This is a great option for our
Brooklyn students to take classes that are more conveniently located.

The pre-college courses at York College in Queens focus on jazz, theatre, music history, or social science classes. An

Brown Leadership Program
KIPP College Partner. The Leadership Institute is designed for highly motivated and intellectually curious students
who are interested in complex social issues. Applicants should be excited to learn and want to make a positive

Management & Technology Summer Institute at U. Penn
KIPP College Partner. In the Management and Technology Innovation Summer Institute (M&TSI), students will be
introduced to core engineering and business disciplines, as well as the academic and career opportunities available
in the fields of engineering and business, with a focus on coding and computer programs. This program takes place
at the University of Pennsylvania, and applicants must have taken pre-calculus or a higher level math.

and more. This is a great way to get hands-on experience at one of the top research and medicine universities in

Syracuse University Summer College
Six-week all-expenses paid program at Syracuse University where students take classes in media and writing. This
is a competitive program and students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above to apply. KIPP has a college partnership
with Syracuse and this program is a great way to learn about life on at this college.

This pre-college art program exposes students to the rigors of college-level art on a college campus. Students will
take courses with Drexel faculty and use the resources available in the art facilities. Students can take classes in
architecture, design and merchandising for fashion, music production, interior design, and more.

Volunteer program at the various NY Presbyterian Hospitals. Check the different hospitals on NYP website for
specific openings and requirements--make sure to check the age requirements for each of the departments to make
sure you are eligible for the position you want. This is a competitive volunteer position and applicants are selected
based on the essay and application.

Summer Youth Police Academy
The Youth Police Academy is a six week program that will hold sessions five days a week. The Academy will open
at 8:30 am in the morning and dismissal will be 2:00 p.m. Students will attend classroom sessions with lectures,
role-plays and topical demonstrations by police officers in the areas of law, behavioral science, drug prevention
and gang resistance.
