NAME: Virtual Fly Lab: PARTNER NAME (Adapted from Richard Borinsky and Kim Foglia) Use the procedure sheet to help guide you how to use the virtual fly lab. You must show YOUR PUNNET SQUARES FOR ALL PROBLEMS RECORD CHISQUARE RESULTS. Which of the following applies to the problems in this exercise? Choose the appropriate response and place it in the portion of the question labeled "Final Analysis". a. Monohybrid inheritance. Autosomal recessive b. Monohybrid inheritance. Autosomal dominant c. Monohybrid inheritance. X-linked dominant d. Monohybrid inheritance. X-linked recessive e. Dihybrid inheritance. No linkage. Both autosomal recessive f. Dihybrid inheritance. Both recessive. One is X-linked and one is autosomal. g. Two linked autosomal recessives. How many map units separate the linked genes? h. Three nonlinked autosomal recessives. i. Three linked autosomal recessives. How many map units separate each of the alleles? Draw a map showing the order of the alleles on the chromosome. Page 5 1/5/2009 Assessment Exercise: Virtual Fly For this part of your assignment, you will use the Virtual Fly Website as before. You and a partner or two will assigned a group of four traits(recessive, dominant, X-link, lethal, epistasis…) You will need to develop Punnet Squares as hypotheses BEFORE you complete crosses and CHI SQUARE analysis. A note: Parental flies in FlyLab are true breeding homozygotes. THE EXCEPTION IS IF A TRAIT IS A LETHAL DOMINANT. It is only lethal in the HOMOZYGOTE (AA). Therefore, when you set up the cross with a Lethal dominant trait, the FlyLab software automatically makes the breeding fly with the trait a HETEROZYGOTE (Aa), because if the fly was homozygous, the fly would be dead. ---therefore the heterzygote is the only way to get the trait into a breeding pair.
