Painted Rock Student Council
Candidate Information Packet
Please read this entire packet before completing!
Only pages 4-6 need to be returned. Save pages 1-3 for your reference.
Candidate Qualifications:
Students choosing to run for any Student Council position must demonstrate the following:
1. Good citizenship, both in the classroom and on the playground.
2. Consistent effort in all academic subjects.
Candidate Information:
Students elected to the council MUST attend scheduled meetings. Student Council officers will also
be expected to help with various on-campus activities, (i.e. selling fund raising items as well as any
recycling and community service projects).
Students willing to run for office must complete the attached application, statement of intent, and
pledge. Any student turning in an incomplete packet will be disqualified. All packets will be due at
the specified date and time. No exceptions.
Student Council Elections Timeline
(please review closely)
September 29th – 3:15pm meeting in Library to learn about student council and pick up the
application packet. Packets may also be picked up from Miss Jones (rm 17) or Mrs. Harmon (rm 20).
Or
September 30th 8:30am meeting in Library to learn about student council and pick up the packet.
Packets may also be picked up from Miss Jones (room 17) or Mrs. Harmon (room 20).
October 10th, Friday: Completed applications (pages 4-6) are due in the Student Council box placed in
front of room 20 (Mrs. Harmon’s Room) by 3:30 p.m. No exceptions. (Page 7 should be turned in to your
classroom teacher to complete).
October 13th: Students who have turned in a completed application packet will have their name posted on a
list outside of room 20.
Your video speech time with Ms. Jones will be this week. Be prepared with 2 copies of your 1 minute
speech beginning Tuesday, October 14th. You will be pulled out of class for a few minutes to make
your speech video.
Poster Making Rules: Each candidate has the option to create ONE poster (one side only). All
materials will be provided by the school and the poster needs to be created AT school. Poster Making
times are Tuesday, October 14th, 3:15-4:00 in room 17 or Wednesday, October 15th, 3:15-4:00 in room
20.
October 20th-24th-: Campaign

Props or give away items are not allowed. CAMPAIGN BUTTONS, STICKERS, GUM, CANDY,
ETC. are not permitted. Distributing these items will disqualify a student. If you are not sure of
something….ASK!
Teachers will show the video presentations to their own classrooms throughout the week. Students will
receive their ballots on Thursday, October23rd. Winners will be announced on Friday, October 24th at
3:14pm.
Friday October 24th: At 3:00, all candidates will meet in the library to hear results. An “All Call” will be
announced at 3:14pm with the names of the winners.
Painted Rock Student Council Offices 2014-2015
President (Open to any fifth grade student) – The president will lead all Student Council Meetings, assist other Student Council
Officers and/or room representatives with their duties, lead school assemblies in various tasks, (i.e. Pledge of Allegiance, etc.),
make weekly announcements with the principal by video, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six Pillars of Character.
Vice-President (Open to any fifth grade student) – The vice-president will assume all of the responsibilities of the president in
the case that the president is absent. The vice-president will assist other Student Council Officers and/or room representatives with
their duties, make weekly announcements with the principal by video, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six Pillars of
Character.
Secretary (Open to any fourth or fifth grade student) - The secretary will assume all of the responsibilities of the president in
the case that the president and vice-president are absent. The secretary will take the official notes during the Student Council
Meetings, and approve these minutes at the following meeting. The secretary will assist other Student Council Officers and/or
room representatives with their duties, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six Pillars of Character.
Treasurer (Open to any fourth and fifth grade student) – The treasurer will assume all of the responsibilities of president in the
case that the president, vice-president, and secretary are all absent. The treasurer is responsible for maintaining and preparing
deposits by rolling coins and sorting of bills of funds collected at the various fundraisers. The treasurer will assist other Student
Council Officers and/or room representatives with their duties, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six Pillars of Character.
Publicity Commissioner (Open to any fourth or fifth grade student) – The publicity commissioner is responsible for making
posters and/or flyers advertising any Student Council sponsored event. The publicity commissioner may also be asked to prepare
brief statements for Willow Grove newsletters discussing various Student Council activities. The publicity commissioner will
assist other Student Council Officers and/or room representatives with their duties, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six
Pillars of Character.
Spirit Commissioner (Open to any fourth or fifth grade student) – The spirit commissioner is responsible for selecting various
Student Council sponsored spirit days. The spirit commissioner may also be asked to lead the school at various assemblies with a
school cheer. The spirit commissioner will help the Publicity Commissioner in advertising each spirit day. The spirit commissioner
will assist other Student Council Officers and/or room representatives with their duties, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six
Pillars of Character.
Environment Commissioner (Open to any fourth or fifth grade student) – The environment commissioner is responsible for
continually suggesting ways to improve and/or maintain the environment of the school. This may include recycling, waste
management, etc. The environment commissioner will assist other Student Council Officers and/or room representatives with their
duties, and demonstrate school spirit and the Six Pillars of Character.
