GRANTS
Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell Grant is for all current and prospective undergraduate students who meet financial
eligibility, academic progress requirements, and are enrolled in an academic program. Less than
half-time students may qualify. Applicants must satisfy criteria regarding selective service, criminal
record and loan defaults. To apply, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). The FAFSA qualifies you for most state and federal grants, loans and scholarship programs.

Federal Supplemental Educational
Opportunity Grants
Provides grants for undergraduates with the lowest Expected Family Contributions and gives priority
to students receiving PELL Grant Awards. For all current and prospective undergraduate students
who meet financial eligibility, academic progress requirements and are enrolled in an eligible
academic program. Less than half-time students may qualify. Applicants must satisfy criteria
regarding selective service, criminal record and loan defaults. Fill out a FAFSA to apply.
South Carolina State Need-Based Grant
Provides additional financial aid to SC residents with demonstrated need.
LOANS
William D. Ford Federal Direct Loans
Provides subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Subsidized loans are based on financial need
established by the student in an eligible program of study who meets academic progress
requirements. Expected family contribution on the FAFSA determines need. No interest
accrues before repayment begins. Unsubsidized loans are not need-based. Interest
accrues from the date the loan is disbursed. Eligible students must be enrolled at least
half-time.

Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
Provides unsubsidized loans for the parents of dependent students. PLUS loans are
awarded to help pay for educational expenses up to the cost of attendance minus all
other financial assistance. Interest accrues during all periods. An application must be
completed at www.studentloans.gov. For information about loan terms, click here.
STUDENT EMPLOYMENT
Federal Work Study
Provides part-time jobs to financially eligible undergraduates. Students may work 15 –
20 hours a week. Employment is determined by academic progress, class schedule, and
total award. Awards depend on availability of funds. Jobs may be on-campus or offcampus. Students must be enrolled at least half-time.

STATE SCHOLARSHIPS
South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance
Program
Provides partial tuition to students attending South Carolina Technical Colleges. Federal and
State need-based funds must be awarded prior to LTAP funds. LTAP is not need-based. South
Carolina residents must be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) in an eligible academic
program and must meet academic progress requirements. Not available to S.C. LIFE Scholars.

South Carolina LIFE Scholarship
South Carolina provides LIFE scholarships to high school students who graduate with a
minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and who meet college-level (101
or above) course load and academic progress requirements. A maximum of four semesters of
LIFE eligibility is allowed for associate degrees and two semesters for one-year diplomas and
certificates. SAT scores are not required for technical college students. Beginning summer
2015, students who are in two-year programs of study may be eligible to receive one of their
remaining two terms of eligibility during the summer to accelerate to graduation.
SC National Guard College Assistance Program
Provides financial assistance to members of the South Carolina Army and Air National Guard by
providing incentives for enlisting or remaining for a specified time in either the South Carolina
Army or Air National Guard. Recipients may receive up to a maximum of four thousand five
hundred dollars ($4,500) for the Army National Guard and up to a maximum of nine thousand
($9,000) for the Air National Guard per year. The cumulative total of all college assistance
program benefits may not exceed eighteen thousand ($18,000).
NON-MTC SCHOLARSHIPS
Many private organizations offer scholarships. These awards can be based on grades, gender,

MTC FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Alumni Association Endowment - Evelyn R.
Willson Scholarship
The scholarship provides an award to a full-time rising second-year student only. The student
must have earned one-half the total credit hours required in an associate degree program by
the beginning of the fall semester. The student must have a 3.0 GPA minimum or B average.
Preference is given to students who are actively participating in campus-sponsored student
activities, organizations, external community service activities and other activities that
demonstrate both civic awareness and support of the college. The scholarship will cover
tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Association of Information Technology
Professionals (AITP) Scholarship
The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Scholarship Endowment was
established by the Association of Information Technology Professionals to students with
financial need. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time or part-time, continuing

student in the Information Systems Technology or Computer Technology programs. The
student must have a 3.0 GPA minimum or B average and must have completed 12 credit hours
in CPT or IST courses. The scholarship will cover the tuition and fees, books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.
BFS Auto Supply Scholarship
The BFS Auto Supply Scholarship Fund was established by BFS Retail & Commercial Operations
and the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund for the support of general scholarships to attract
students to the Automotive Technologies program to students with financial need. The
scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of $800 per year to a full-time newly entering
or continuing student in the Automotive Technology program. The student must have a 3.0
GPA minimum or B average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.
Bill Hayes Memorial Scholarship
The Bill Hayes Memorial Endowment was established by Sandra Hayes McDowell in loving
memory of her son, Bill Hayes, to a student with financial need. The scholarship provides an
award to a full-time, newly entering student in any associate degree program. The student
must have a 2.5 GPA minimum or C+ average and be a graduate of Lexington High School. The
scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Bill Lind Scholarship
The Bill Lind Scholarship Endowment was established by the faculty and staff of Midlands
Technical College in memory of Bill Lind, a well-respected instructor in Commercial Graphics,
who was killed in an automobile accident. The scholarship provides one award to a full-time
continuing student (must have completed a minimum of one full semester of Commercial
Graphics courses) in the Commercial Graphics program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B
average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Burroughs-Wyman Scholarship
The Burroughs-Wyman Endowment was established in 1978 in memory of Emmaline
Burroughs-Wyman, an instructor of English and an advisor to women at Midlands Technical
College. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time or part-time, continuing student in
any associate degree program. The student must have a 3.5 GPA minimum or B+ average.
Preference is given to female students (preference is waived if such a student is not available
among the pool of applicants). Student must have earned approximately one-half the total
credit hours required in the program as of the beginning of the fall semester. The scholarship

Carpentry Framing Scholarship
Charles Palmer Communities in Schools
Established by the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia to support active training of
skilled residential construction workers.
The Charles Palmer Communities in Schools Endowment was established by the Palmer College
Corporation to further the educational advancement of individuals who have not found
advancement in the traditional high school environment. The scholarship provides awards to
full-time or part-time, newly entering student only in any associate degree program or
certificate program. The student must have a 2.5 GPA minimum or C+ average. The student
must provide a current transcript and a letter of recommendation from the Communities in
School Advisory panel. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials
and supplies.
Christine Hipp Scholarship
The Christine Hipp Endowment Fund was established by faculty, staff and students of Midlands
Technical College in memory of Christine Hipp, who was tragically killed in an automobile
accident shortly before receiving her degree in Dental Hygiene. The scholarship provides an
award to a full-time continuing student (second year) starting the third or fourth semester
curriculum in the Dental Hygiene associate degree program during the Fall semester. The
student must have a 2.5 GPA minimum or C+ average. The scholarship will cover tuition and
fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
D.L. Scurry Foundation Scholarship
The DL Scurry Foundation Endowment was established by the D.L. Scurry Foundation of
Greenville, South Carolina to assist students with a demonstrated financial need. The
scholarship provides four (4) awards to a full-time or part-time continuing student in any
academic program. The student must have a 2.0 GPA or C average. Must have completed at
least 12 credit hours of study. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books,
equipment, materials, and supplies.
Derrick Family Scholarship
The Derrick Family Scholarship Endowment was established by Ellison Robinson, a professor at
Midlands Technical College and the Derrick Family to provide financial need assistance for
someone who is legally blind. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time or part-time,
newly entering or continuing student in any associate degree or certificate program or
academic courses. The student must be legally blind and have supporting documentation. The

scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Don Morris Scholarship
Established by the Rotary Club of Cayce-West Columbia in honor of Don H. Morris to provide
scholarships for deserving students in the Cayce-West Columbia area.
Dorothy G. Smith Scholarship
The Dorothy G. Smith Scholarship Endowment was established by Tom Davis and Dorothy
Smith, faculty members in the Developmental Studies Department, to assist students with
financial need in furthering their education. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time or
part-time newly entering or continuing student in any associate degree or certificate program.
The student must have a 2.5 GPA or C+ average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
The Engineering Technology Endowment was established by Engineering Technology Division
faculty to recognize academic excellence in the study of Engineering Technology. The
scholarship provides one (1) award to full-time or part-time continuing students. The students
must have earned approximately one-half the total credit hours required in the program as of
the beginning of the Fall semester in the Engineering Technologies or Engineering Transfer
associate degree program. The student must have a 2.5 GPA minimum or C+ average. The
scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Engineering Technology Endowment
Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship For Continuing
Students
The Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship for Continuing Students Endowment was established by the
Midlands Technology College Foundation in honor of Senator Ernest F. Hollings. The
scholarship provides an award to a full-time (rising second-year student; must have earned
approximately one-half the total credit hours required) - continuing student in the Industrial
and Engineering Technologies, Engineering Transfer, Business, or Information Systems
Technology associate degree program. The student must have a 3.5 GPA minimum or B+
average. Applicant must hold highest cumulative GPA in their academic division. Preference
will be given as follows: if two or more eligible recipients hold the same highest cumulative
GPA, selection will be based upon the extent of their involvement in campus-based
activities/organizations and in community service. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees,
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship For Newly
Entering Students
The Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship for Newly Entering Students Endowment was established by
the Midlands Technology College Foundation in honor of Senator Ernest F. Hollings, who is

considered to be the father of technical education in South Carolina. The scholarship provides
an award to a full-time newly entering student in any associate degree program. The student
must have a 3.0 GPA or B average and an academic ranking in the upper one-fourth of their
graduating class. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and
supplies.
Ernie Dennison Scholarship
The Ernie Dennison Scholarship Endowment was established by his wife, Laura Dennison, in
support of the MTC Carpentry Framer Program to support students who demonstrate a sincere
and genuine appreciation for learning and pursuing a career in the honorable profession of
carpentry. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or above. One (1) scholarship will cover tuition
and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Eunice Primus-Robinson Scholarship
The Eunice Primus-Robinson Scholarship was established by her children and the Association of
Afro-American Students at Midlands Technical College in honor of her commitment to
furthering the education of the minority student population.
The Fairfield Electric Cooperative Scholarship Fund was established by Fairfield Electric
Cooperative for the support of general scholarships for students from their service area. The
scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of $750 per year to a full-time or part-time,
newly entering or continuing student in any certificate or degree program or academic
courses. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The student or parent of the student
must be a member of the Fairfield Electric Cooperative and must provide proof by sending a
copy of an electric bill. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.

Ford Addison Weeks Memorial Nursing
Scholarship
The Ford Addison Weeks Memorial Nursing Endowment was established by Jack and Shirley
Weeks in memory of their son, Ford Addison Weeks, who was born with Spina Bifida, but
whose life is an example of the human spirit triumphing over adversity. Mr. and Mrs. Weeks
created this scholarship fund in order to assist needy and worthy people in their training and
education in the field of nursing. The scholarship provides six (6) awards to a full-time newly
entering or continuing student (continuing students must have completed a minimum of 12
credit hours in either nursing program) in the Associate Degree Nursing or Practical Nursing
programs. The student must have a 2.5 GPA or C+ average. Preference will be given to nursing
students currently employed at Still Hopes, an Episcopal retirement community located in West

Columbia, South Carolina. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.
George D. Wooldridge Memorial Scholarship
The George D. Wooldridge Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Catherine U.
Wooldridge, MTC retiree, in loving memory of her husband, George D. Wooldridge, a wellrespected and loved administrator and professor at Midlands Technical College. This
scholarship will be given to a student with financial need. The scholarship provides an award to
a full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing student in any Business or Industrial
program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The scholarship will cover tuition and
fees and books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Greater Columbia Dental Association
Scholarship
The Greater Columbia Dental Association Endowment was established on March 21, 1991 by
the Greater Columbia Dental Association for the purpose of advancing excellence in the Allied
Dental Education Program (ADEP). The scholarship provides an award to a student with
financial need in the Allied Dental Program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA.
Henry A. and Pauline H. Goodall Memorial
Scholarship
The Henry A. and Pauline H. Goodall Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in
honor of Dr. Henry Goodall, a long-time Department Head of the Dental Auxiliaries Program at
Midlands Technical College, to assist a student in financial need. The scholarship provides one
(1) award to a full-time or part-time continuing student in the Dental Hygiene associate degree
or Dental Assisting diploma program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The
scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
HVAC Endowment Fund Scholarship
The HVAC Endowment Fund Endowment was established by the Air Conditioning &
Refrigeration Wholesalers Association. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time newly
entering or continuing student in the HVAC associate degree program. The student must have a
2.5 GPA minimum or C+ average. Selection will be based on the highest academic standing
among qualified applicants. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.
The James L. Hudgins Scholarship Endowment was established by the faculty and staff of
Midlands Technical College in honor of Dr. James L. Hudgins, former President of MTC, for his
contributions to the college. The scholarship provides one (1) award to a continuing student

GPA or B average. Special consideration will be given to current MTC employees and their

John Courson Scholarship
The John Courson Endowment was established in honor of John E. Courson, South Carolina
Senator, to assist students with financial need in furthering their education. The scholarship
provides an award to a full-time or part-time – newly entering or continuing student in any
degree program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA minimum or B average. The scholarship will
cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Joseph J. Mallini Paralegal Program Support
Scholarship
The Joseph J. Mallini Paralegal Program Support Scholarship Endowment was established by
the Center for Child Care Career Development to assist students with financial need. The
scholarship provides an award to a full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing student
in the Paralegal Program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The scholarship will
cover tuition and fees and books.
Judith Lindau Scholarship
The Judith Lindau Scholarship Endowment was established by Judith Litman Lindau, an attorney
and member of the Midlands Technical College Commission, to provide financial assistance to
women who require retraining for the workforce. The scholarship will provide awards to a fulltime or part-time newly entering or continuing student in any associate degree or certificate
program. Preference will be given to women who need to be trained for the workforce, or who
have been out of the workforce and need to be retrained in order to provide for their family.
Consideration will be given to a female, age 30 or older who was raised in a single-parent
home. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Jules W. Lindau III Memorial Engineering
Scholarship
The Jules W. Lindau III Memorial Engineering Scholarship Endowment was established in
memory of Jules W. Lindau III for his role in helping found and nurture Midlands Technical
College. The scholarship will provide awards to a full-time or part-time continuing student
(must have completed at least 12 credit hours of Engineering Technology courses) in the
Engineering Technology associate degree program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B
average.

Kirby Able Scholarship
The Kirby Able Endowment was established in memory of Kirby Able’s role as an advisor to
young men with financial need. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time or part-time,
newly entering students in any associate degree program. The student must have a 2.0 GPA
minimum or C average. Preference is given to a male high school graduate under the age of 21
who grew up in a single-parent household. Reference should be stated in the application essay
section - preference is waived if such a student is not available among the pool of applicants, in
which case age and financial need will prevail. The scholarship will cover the tuition and fees,
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Lloyd A. Harris Endowment in HVAC
Scholarship
The Lloyd A. Harris Endowment in HVAC Scholarship was established by Shirley S. Harris in
memory of Lloyd A. Harris. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time continuing student
(second year) in the HVAC associate degree program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B
average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Margaret Kelly Cubbon Trust Scholarship
The Margaret Kelly Cubbon Trust Scholarship was established by the family for Margaret Kelly
Cubbon, a retired educator who wanted to provide educational opportunities for care givers
and health care workers. Preference will be given to employees of Rice Estate in Columbia SC.
If not awarded to a Rice Estate employee, scholarship may be awarded to applicant pursuing a
degree or certification in the healthcare field.
The Maria Marchant Endowment was established by the Friends of the Applied Dental Assisting
Program to assist students with financial need in furthering their education. The scholarship
provides awards to full-time or part-time, newly entering or continuing students in the Dental
Assisting Program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The student must provide a
current transcript. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials,
supplies.
Maria Marchant Scholarship
Marion A. And Rachel S. Knox Scholarship
The Marion A. and Rachel S. Knox Scholarship Endowment was established by Marion and
Rachel Knox to assist students with financial need in furthering their education. The
scholarship provides two (2) awards to full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing
students in any associate degree or certificate program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B
average. Preference will be given to Terminix employees and their families. The scholarship

will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Mark Anthony Wildermuth Network Systems
Management Scholarship
The Mark Anthony Wildermuth Network Systems Management Scholarship Endowment was
established by the Engineering Technology Department of Midlands Technical College to assist
students pursuing a career in Telecommunications and to honor our late colleague, Mark
Anthony Wildermuth. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time newly entering or
continuing student in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Certificate or the TSM Degree.
The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. If more than two students are eligible, the
student(s) selected will have the highest academic performance as verified by the TSM Program
Coordinator. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment, materials, and
supplies.
Maxie S. Gordon, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
The Maxie S. Gordon, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Maxie S.
Gordon, Jr., former Midlands Technical College faculty member, in memory of his father, Maxie
S. Gordon, Sr. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time newly entering or continuing
student in any associate degree or certificate program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B
average. Applicants must show a commitment to their school and community through past
and present involvement with school groups and activities and various community groups.
Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated leadership abilities. The scholarship
will cover tuition and fees, books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Michael Parks Airs Scholarship
The Michael Parks Airs Scholarship Fund was established by Ellen and Lee Airs to provide
scholarship support for the Automotive Technology Program at Midlands Technical College.
The scholarship provides an award to a part-time or full-time newly entering or continuing
student in the Automotive Technology Program. The student must have a 2.5 GPA minimum or
C+ average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment, materials, and
supplies.
Mot & Malcolm Little Scholarship in Transfer
Programs
The Mot & Malcolm Little Scholarship in Transfer Programs Fund was established by Greta
Little and Joel Myerson in memory of Mot and Malcolm Little, who understood the value of
education and professional training. This scholarship will be given to a student with financial
need. The scholarship will be given to a full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing
student in any associate degree or certificate program. The student must have a 2.0 GPA or C

average. Applicants must have at least five years life-experience after leaving high school.
Preference will be given to single parents. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books,

MTC Ambassador Assembly Support
Scholarship
Established in 1995 by MTC faculty and staff and members of the MTC Ambassador Assembly
to create scholarships for deserving members of the MTC Ambassador Assembly.
MTC Presidential Merit Scholarship
Endowment
The MTC Presidential Scholarship Endowment was established in 1974 by local area businesses
and industries, MTC faculty and staff, and other private donors to provide a merit scholarship
for an outstanding MTC student. It is the college's most prestigious scholarship. The
scholarship provides an award to a newly entering or continuing student in any associate
degree, certificate program or academic courses. Newly entering students must have a 3.8
GPA from their most recent school attended. Continuing students must have completed a
minimum of 12 credit hours and have a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference will be given to

students with demonstrated participation in campus based and extracurricular leadership
positions and community service activities. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
MTC Retiree Scholarship
The Retiree Fund Scholarship was established by retirees of Midlands Technical College to
provide scholarships to deserving students. The scholarship provides one (1) award in the
amount of $500 per year to a full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing student in any
certificate or associate degree program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average.
Preference will be given to MTC employees, retirees, and their dependents. The scholarship
will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Paul B. Vann Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The Paul Vann Memorial Nursing Scholarship Endowment was established by Joanne V.
Williams in memory of her brother, Paul Baggett Vann, and in honor of the nurses at
Providence Hospital to provide financial support for the further training and educational
pursuits of students who plan to work with surgical patients. The scholarship provides an
award to a full-time or part-time continuing student in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. Preference will be given to students who plan

Scholarship
The Paul J. Boan Memorial Art Education Scholarship was established by Teresa Boan Alsing, a
graduate of the Associate in Arts degree program at MTC, and her husband, Maurice O. Alsing,
Jr., to assist deserving students in pursuing a career in Art Education. The scholarship provides
one (1) award in the amount of $250 per year to continuing students in Associate in Arts
degree program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA minimum or B average.
The Ralph D. Levine Endowment Fund was established by Dr. Ralph D. Levine to provide
financial assistance to students in the Dental Hygiene associate degree program who have
demonstrated sound academic performance and who have a strong desire to serve the dental
needs of the community. The scholarship provides an award to a full-time continuing student
in the Dental Hygiene associate degree program. The recipient must be a resident of Richland,
Lexington or Fairfield county. Consideration will be given to projected contributions to the
dental hygiene profession upon graduation as demonstrated through participation in dental

Search/Educational Opportunity Center
Scholarship
The Richard W. Riley Educational Talent Search/Educational Opportunity Center/Upward
Bound Scholarship Endowment was established by the Midlands Technology College
Foundation in honor of U.S. Secretary of Education and former Governor of South Carolina,
Richard W. Riley. The scholarship provides awards in the amount of $1,000 per year to a fulltime or part-time newly entering (for ETS and Upward Bound) or continuing student (for EOC)
in any associate degree program. The student must have a 2.5 GPA or C+ average. Must be
actively enrolled in the Midlands Technical College Educational Talent Search or Educational
Opportunity Center programs or must have participated in the Upward Bound program at the
time of application for this scholarship. The applicant must provide a current transcript, a
letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor or community leader, and one of
the following -a letter of proof of enrollment in the Educational Talent Search, a letter of proof
of enrollment in the Educational Opportunity Center program or a letter of proof of
participation in the Upward Bound Program. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Richard W. Riley Student Support Services
Scholarship
The Richard W. Riley Student Support Services Scholarship Endowment was established by the
Midlands Technology College Foundation in honor of U.S. Secretary of Education and former
Governor of South Carolina, Richard W. Riley.. The scholarship provides one award in the
amount of $1,000 per year to a full-time or part-time (must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit
hours per semester) or continuing student in any associate degree program. The student must
have a 2.0 GPA or C average. Must be an active participant in the Midlands Technical College
Student Support Services program for a minimum of one semester. Minimum of 12 earned
credit course (non-DVS) hours at MTC. Applicant may not be a current recipient of the Richard
W. Riley Educational Talent Search Scholarship. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and
books, equipment, materials, and supplies.

The Robert E. McNair Scholarship Endowment was established by the Midlands Technical
College Foundation in honor of former Governor Robert E. McNair, who helped to create the
technical college system in South Carolina. The scholarship provides seven (7) awards in the

amount of $1000 per year to a full-time continuing student in any associate degree program.
The student must have a 3.5 GPA or B+ average. Recipient must hold the highest GPA in their
academic division within the pool of applicants. Note: If two or more eligible recipients hold

The Ronnie Scott Memorial Endowment was established by the family of Ronnie Scott to
commemorate his outstanding dedication to the students and college while Department Chair
of the Automotive Department at Midlands Technical College. This scholarship will be given to
a student with financial need. The scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of $1250
per year to a full-time newly entering or continuing student in the Automotive Technology
program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. The scholarship will cover tuition and
fees and books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
The Rosi McLeod Scholarship Endowment was established by Mary Rawls, Program Director for
the Human Services Program, in memory of her mother, Rosi McLeod, who was very supportive
of human services work; this scholarship was created as a way for her support to live on
through others. The scholarship will be given to students with financial need. The scholarship
provides one (1) award in the amount of $750 per year to a full-time or part-time rising secondyear student (must have completed 12 credit hours) in the Human Services Program. The
student must have a 2.5 GPA or C+ average. Preference will be given to an applicant who
demonstrates involvement in the community through volunteerism or service learning and
plans to pursue further education in the area of social work. The scholarship will cover tuition
and fees and books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
The Sarah Rhames Book Fund for Business Students Scholarship Endowment was established in
memory of Sarah Rhames by her children for the purpose of providing textbooks for students in
any business or business-related program. This endowed scholarship was established in 2006
by Dr. Ronald L. Rhames, MTC Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Operating
Officer for the Business Program. The scholarship provides four awards in the amount of $300
per year to a full-time or part-time, newly entering or continuing student(s) in the Business
Program to include Accounting, Management or Marketing. The student must have a 2.0 GPA
or C average. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees. The scholarship will also cover books,
equipment, materials and supplies which must be purchased from Midlands Technical College

SC State Fair Scholarship
The SC State Fair Scholarship Endowment was established by the South Carolina State Fair to
assist students at MTC in the Industrial Technology programs. This scholarship will be given to
a student with financial need. The scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of $750
per year to a full-time or part-time continuing student in the Industrial Technologies to include
HVAC, Building Construction Technology, Commercial Graphics, Automotive Technology,
Industrial Electricity and Machine Tool Technology. The student must have a 2.0 GPA or C
average. Must have completed at least one semester as of Fall semester, If more than two
eligible students demonstrate equal financial need, determination will be based upon greater
academic performance. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment,
materials, and supplies.
SCE&G Nuclear Systems Technology
Scholarship
The SCE&G Nuclear Systems Technology Scholarship was established by SCE&G to provide
assistance to students in the Nuclear Systems Technology program who have demonstrated
sound academic performance. The scholarship provides three (3) awards in the amount of
$2,000 per year to a full-time or part-time newly entering or continuing student in the Nuclear
Systems Technology program. The student must have a 3.0 GPA or B average. Preference
given to residents of western Fairfield County, and/or who live in zip code 29065. The
scholarship will cover tuition and fees and books, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Schnieder Electric-Square D Company
Scholarship
The Schneider Electric-Square D Company Scholarship Endowment was established by the
Square D Company to assist students with a demonstrated financial need. The scholarship
provides four (4) awards in the amount of $600 per year to a full-time newly entering or
continuing student in the Industrial Technologies, Engineering Technologies or Engineering
Transfer academic programs. The student must have a 2.0 GPA or C average. Priority is given
to dependents of Square D Company employees. If more than two eligible students
demonstrate equal financial need, determination will be based upon greater academic

The Semih Ulgen Scholarship Fund Endowment was established by Judith Ulgen in loving
memory of her sons, Semih Ulgin, who was pursing his dream of an education when his life was

The Specer T. Jones Memorial Scholarship was established by Johnette Jones in honor of
Spencer T. Jones to provide scholarship support for the Welding Program at Midlands Technical

Steven L. Ball Memorial Scholarship
The Steven L. Ball Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Henrietta and David
Ball in memory of Steven L. Ball to assist individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain
injury (TBI) or a spinal injury and who express the desire and willingness to further their
educational level and skill; it is more specifically designed to be used for the beginning
semester to allow the recipients a chance of proving to themselves and others that they can
succeed in a learning environment. The scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of
$500 per year to a full-time or part-time, newly entering student in any degree or certificate
program or academic courses. Applicants must provide proof that they have sustained a
traumatic brain injury or a spinal injury. The scholarship will cover tuition and fees, books,

The Wells Fargo Endowment Fund Scholarship was established by the Wachovia Foundation
(currently the Wells Fargo Foundation) to assist students in Business or Information Systems
Technology in furthering their education. This scholarship will be given to a student with
financial need. The scholarship provides one (1) award in the amount of $500 per year to a fulltime or part-time continuing student in the Business or Information Systems Technology

degree track of study (accounting, management, computer technology and other programs in

to continue studies at a four-year South Carolina college or university upon completion of the
