We used him on all of our heifers and a few cows and I have to be honest, we haven’t had an easier calving bull on the place. The calves are born with no bulk, small heads and small to moderate birth weights even on the older females. I never had an easier time calving. At one month of age, these calves had more hair on them than I had ever seen on young calves. They looked like baby yaks. But the real bonus is that he left his offspring with good muscling and large testicles, and anxious boys who can’t wait to meet some new girls. Average birth weight 74 pounds on 11 calves (10 were males). “Touchdown” is out of a second calver who has a nice udder and good feet. Smaller framed, dark red and herd bull instincts. He will definitely get the job done for you. North Star, or “Buddy” as we liked to call him, makes his home at Ross and Barb Wards at Arrowwood and they are very happy with him. We had the difficult decision of having to put Longrider’s mother down. I really believed this young cow had a bright future ahead of her but life had other ideas. I have liked Longrider from the moment he was born and he has not disappointed. Sired by North Star, he should pass on calving ease, the dark color and performance. I also should mention that North Star’s mother, Mindy has an awesome calf at her side from the $112,000 Double Bar D United bull that we purchased at their sale last year and that they thought so much of that they bought a half interest back. No doubt, that calf will turn heads. Chris Poley of T bar C picked him out right away, when he came to look at the bulls. He might not be a flashy looking bull with all the bells and whistles but I think he’s got a lot going for him. Not to take away from the others but I think Warlock will be the easiest calving out of our offering; small head and shoulders and moderate birth weight. Going back to Raptor, a bull who we bought from Maxwells has left us with some of the best heifers to ever walk here. I just love them. His maternal grandmother, Shylo, would be one of the cows I would keep back if I could only keep five. I think he could be popular come sale day. Spruce View Acres It’s hard not to look in our bull pen and not notice Medicine Man. A deep bodied, thick, thick butted bull that carries that muscling very well down his legs and across the top of his back. This cow family has never disappointed me. You will be happy with a truckload of steers that will have capacity, thickness, and bring more money to the table because of it. If I didn’t have so many related to him, I would be keeping him at home. This is a tremendous bull. If this heifer raises an animal like this as a first calf, I can’t wait to see what her future offspring will be like. Her full sister is probably the top heifer in our keeper pen and her mother’s calf this year already is a show stopper that will be a top bull in next year’s sale. Oh, and did I mention Medicine Man has a disposition of a kitten.
