Urdd Art and Craft Competitions This is a short summary from the Urdd syllabus for this year. I hope this may be helpful if you wish to enter artefacts made by pupils at home. This year’s theme is Related “Perthyn”. Please check the Urdd web site for more information. Please note only one item per pupil can be entered in each competition. All items must be in school by February half term. All items will be judged as part of the school eisteddfod before being entered into the Urdd. ART, DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY RULES 1 All competitors must enter their work at the County/Regional Eisteddfodau. The first winning piece in all of the Primary Section competitions and the first and second in the Secondary Section competitions will represent their County / Region at the National Eisteddfod. 2 The names of winning competitors will be submitted by the County/Regional Secretary to the Eisteddfod Dept. Names submitted by any other person will be disregarded. 3 Language policy: Welsh is the language of the Eisteddfod. The use of another language except Welsh shall only be allowed in exceptional circumstances and for emphasis only. The over use of another language is not permitted in the Art, Design and Technology section. 4 An Exhibition of the winning entries is organised by the Art, Design and Technology Committee. No one is permitted to take his/her work from the Exhibition during the Eisteddfod week. 5 These are all competitions for individuals unless otherwise stated. 6 "Group work" means work for a group of two or more. 7 In order to protect the work it is permitted to mount items on paper or thin card with a border of no more than 25 mm. Window mounts and frames must not be used for 2D work except where the frame is necessary for the structure of the work. The work will be professionally mounted for the National Exhibition. Photographs should be no more than A4 in size. In a series, each photograph should be no more than A5 in size. All photos must be printed on photographic paper. 8 Size of entries: (to include 25mm mount) Competitions 155, 162, 163, 164 – No restriction in size (a) 2D work: not exceeding 760mm x 560mm (b) 3D work: not exceeding 1000mm x 1000mm x 1000mm. unless otherwise stated. Further rules apply in the relevant section of the Puppet competitions. Definition of 3D: An object which is visible from every direction and is able to support itself. 9 The name and number of the competition should be noted on the official card and placed on the back of every item or section of an item, and not on the front. (This will be done in school) 10 The connection with the theme should be noted clearly for each competition, be it individual or group work. 11 Competitors are not permitted to compete more than once in any competition within a specific section. Competitions are arranged in year groups. Yr 2 and under, Yrs 3 and 4 and Yrs 5 and 6. No. Individual Group Competition Description Size of artefact 2D Drawing Work based on the theme in one or a combination of materials, e.g. paint, pencil, crayon, pastel or ink Work based on the theme using combined mediums e.g. collage, tiles, mosaic not exceeding 760mm x 560mm not exceeding 760mm x 560mm (2 or more people) 3 4 5 8 9 10 2D Creative Work 3D Creative Work Freestanding work based on the theme in any medium or a combination of mediums. Materials from the natural environment may be used. not exceeding 1000mm x 1000mm x 1000mm Print work Work based on the theme. In any medium or a combination of mediums excluding fabrics. Screen Printing Technique or printing using any surface e.g. lino, wood, plastic, metal and so on is acceptable. Original work based on the theme, created on the computer and printed on paper. (It is not permitted to use Clip Art or any similar images) A combination of photography and computer graphics based on the theme e.g. by using a scanner and digital camera to create one finished article in A4 size. The original photo must be included with the finished work Design a base for a skateboard, snowboard or windsurfing board. In any medium based on the theme, One puppet of any variety based on the theme, e.g. finger, hand string or wood, in any medium or a combination of mediums. Creative work based on the theme using one technique only e.g. painting on silk, tie and dye, batik, screen printing, block printing, using a computer etc not exceeding 760mm x 560mm A4 measuring no more than 760 mm x 560 mm. The dimensions of the puppet itself should not exceed 500mm x 500mm x 1000mm. The dimensions of the mask or puppet should not exceed 500mm x 500mm x 1000mm. No. 96-103 Individual Group Competition Description 2D Creative Work (Textiles) Creative work based on the theme in any medium or a combination of mediums using a variety of techniques Size of artefact not exceeding 760mm x 560mm 3D Creative Work (Textiles) not exceeding 1000mm x 1000mm x 1000mm 108-110 Knitting (by hand) and /or Crochet 112-114 (116118) not exceeding 760mm x 560mm Individual work or Group work, should not be greater than 1000mm x 1000mm. 123 124-126 104-106 Weaving Creative Headdress Creative work based on the theme. An item based on the theme. Experimental and unusual mediums and techniques are encouraged. Monochrome Print One print based on the theme Photography 129-131 Photography 134-136 Photography 139-141 Photography 144 146 Jewellery 149-153 Design not exceeding 1000mm x 1000mm x 1000mm! Every item should be mounted on black card no more than 600mm x 500mm. Coloured Print One print based on the theme. A series of Monochrome Prints A series of four prints based on the theme, mounted on black card no more than 760mm x 560mm. A series of Coloured Prints A series of four prints based on the theme, mounted on black card no more than 760mm x 560mm. Personal jewellery based on the theme in any medium or a combination of mediums e.g. fabric, metal, macramé, re-used materials etc. Create an artefact from recycled materials. Any materials may be used no more than 760mm x 560mm. Not included in this summary Ceramics, creating a web page, DVD or technology competitions.
