tools you need to communicate
with colleagues and students,
connect with friends and family,
and much more! To learn more

Get an ObieID. Your
ObieID is key to all
electronic resources on
campus—make sure to
request yours as soon as
you have recieved your
T-Number.

Request a computer. All
staff are provided a
computer to meet their
work needs. See page 6
to get started.

Activate your email. In
order to begin using your
OCMail account, you need
to set a password. Jump
to page 4 for more

Get familiar with tech on
campus. There are plenty
of technology resources
on campus inside and
ouside of the classroom
through CIT, OCTET and
other organizations. Get
familiar with these
services so you can get
help when you need it.

ObieID
Most services at Oberlin
require one of two types of
accounts.
ObieID
As soon as you have received
your T# from the Office of
Human Resources, submit the
New Staff Account Request
Form to acquire your ObieID.
Hop over to https://hera.
cc.oberlin.edu/nos/accounts/
NewFaculty.html to begin the
form electronically.
If you’re already on campus,
you can also stop by the
Help Desk to fill out a form in
person.

Your Obie ID is the account
that provides access to
your OCMail email account,
Blackboard, lab computers,
and other network resources.
Upon receiving your new
ObieID, you’ll need to set a
password. You are required to
reset the password every 122
days and will receive an email
reminding you when you need
to reset it.
https://obieid.oberlin.edu is
the home for all ObieID
account management tools.
Begin here and choose the
“Change Existing Password”
link to set the password of
your choice.
PRESTO ID and PIN
PRESTO—Personal
Records for Employees and
Students at Oberlin—is used
to manage all your employee
records and where faculty
members will enter student
grades. Beginning this year,
staff members can also access
their W-2 information through
PRESTO as well. Your
username is your T-number
and your PRESTO pin is
initially set to
your
birthdate
in the form
mmddyy.
OCTET
A good
starting
point for
educational
technology
support is the Oberlin Center
for Technologically Enhanced
Teaching (OCTET). OCTET
also engages with faculty to
investigate novel and
alternative strategies for
teaching and learning. For
more information about their

Staff Computers

All faculty and staff are
provided with a computer
sufficient to meet their college
needs.
who do not yet have an
ObieID, so please make sure
you have also requested your
account.
To begin the process of
requesting a computer, new
staff should fill out the Staff
Computer Request Form at
http://citwiki.oberlin.edu/index.php/Staff_Computer_Requests. You’ll get the chance
to indicate whether you would
like a desktop or laptop, Mac
or Windows, and any necessary software. You should
submit this form as soon as
you accept your job offer.
Computers will not be
assigned to faculty and staff
Once we receive this form, we
begin our process of assigning
you a computer, setting it up,
and scheduling a delivery time
with you. Faculty arriving at
the start of the academic year
can expect to receive their
computers in July or August.
Faculty arriving at the start of
the spring semester can
expect to receive their
computers in January. New
staff will receive computers as
quickly as possible after their
arrival on campus.

Email is the official mode of
communication at Oberlin.
There are a few steps you
must take to set up your new
OCMail account.
Step 1: Set A Password
You must set your ObieID
password in order to you can
check your OCMail for the first
time. Change your password
using https://obieid.oberlin.
edu, the ObieID Self-Service
Portal.
Step 2: Wait
It takes about 10 minutes for
Google to synch with your
ObieID after the change. If you
try to log in to OCMail before
it has become effective, you’ll
receive an error message.
Step 3: Log In to OCMail
Use your ObieID and the
password you just set to log
in to OCMail at http://ocmail.
oberlin.edu.
Step 4: Begin Using OCMail
Your OCMail account will now
look and function just like a
regular GMail account.

Printing
Printing in offices is
accomplished using a program
called iPrint. Office printers
are set up by CIT Client
Services staff prior to, or as
part of, the delivery of new
or upgraded computers to
faculty and staff. Users may
set up office
printers themselves by
following the instructions on
the CIT Wiki.
Konica printers are not
supported by CIT. Their
support comes from the
vendor, Blue Technologies.
Information on receiving
support for Konica printers
(contact information/phone

number) is posted on each
Konica printer unit.
If you need technical
assistance with any Konica
printer, you should contact
Meritech Blue directly at
(216) 271-5800. Any issues
with Konica printer support
should be directed to the
Director of Purchasing and
Auxiliary Services,
(440) 775-6648.
Connecting to the Oberlin
College network doesn’t
require any special equipment.
Any computer less than three
or four years old should have
no trouble connecting. To use
our network, simply connect
your computer to either the
wired network via the
ethernet cable in your office
or to the wireless network
available in locations all over
campus called ObieWiFi.
If it’s your first time to connect
or you’ve
returned
to
campus
after
a long
break,
Network
you’ll need to enter your
ObieID and password to
authenticate your computer.
If you have a visitor with you
on campus, instruct them
to use the ObieGuest WiFi
network. More information
on authentication for visitors
can be found at http://
new.oberlin.edu/office/cit/
visitors/.

Setup Profiles for iOS
You can download setup
profiles for your iPhone,
iPad, or iPod touch that
automatically configure your
device for use with your
Oberlin email account, VPN
and calendar. Download the
profiles from the Software
Downloads page (https://
hera.cc.oberlin.edu/cit/) with
a valid ObieID and password.

Personal Printing to Labs
You can print from your
personal laptop to any of
the printers in public labs on
campus. Log in to PaperCut
with your ObieID and
password, choose “web print”
from the tools on the left-hand
side, and follow the onscreen
instructions to print.

CIT Help Desk
The CIT Help Desk provides
service and support for all
software and hardware for
HP and Apple computers.
Come see us in the Academic
Commons on the main level of
Mudd Center.
We want to make sure you’re
using technology to make
your life at Oberlin easier. CIT
offers several options when it
comes to software training.
One-on-One Training
We offer one-on-one training
on many basic software
packages including OCApps,
Microsoft Office, iCloud and
more. Send an email to
cit.trainer@oberlin.edu to
establish a training date and
time that works best for you.
As necessary, CIT may also
conduct group classes to
provide training on newly
released products.
Hours of operation are
Monday–Thursday from 9:00
AM–midnight, Friday from
9:00 AM–10:00 PM, Saturday
10:00 AM–10:00 PM, and
Sunday 10:00 AM–12:00 AM.

CIT has 25
licences for
Lynda.com’s
training
library
which contains over 65,000
video tutorials on software
from Microsoft Office to Final
Cut Pro. Each tutorial contains
hours of quality content and
each topic can be broken
down into small, easilysearchable blocks.
Learn More
Each license can be “checked
out” for two weeks. Email
