Red Robin Teams Up with Local Law Enforcement for Tenth Annual Tip-A-Cop
Fundraiser to Benefit Special Olympics
Law Enforcement officers to wait tables at participating Red Robin restaurants in North Carolina
Raleigh, N.C. – There’s a new server in town! This October, law enforcement officers across the
country will trade their ticket books for order pads and unite at Red Robin® restaurants* to serve
guests for a special cause. Red Robin’s 10th annual Tip-A-Cop® event will take place in North
Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 24 from the hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at 14
local restaurants. North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run officers will volunteer their time
as servers alongside Red Robin’s wait staff to collect tips from guests to raise funds for Special
Olympics North Carolina.
We encourage all media to visit one of the local Red Robin restaurants for interviews and photos
with local law enforcement and Special Olympics NC athletes and representatives.

Tip-A-Cop is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) campaign in support of
Special Olympics. LETR is supported by more than 100,000 law enforcement officers worldwide
who help raise money and public awareness for Special Olympics. As the largest grass-roots
fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics, LETR funds raised go directly to
local programs in states where the funds are generated.
“Our annual Red Robin Tip-A-Cop events give us an opportunity to show the community the
tight bond law enforcement has with Special Olympics,” said DK Jones, NC Law Enforcement
Torch Run co-director. “The tremendous level of support from law enforcement and the
community, as well as the unparalleled generosity from Red Robin and Coca-Cola, are what
make these events so successful.”
In less than 10 years, Tip-A-Cop events at Red Robin restaurants have raised more than $2.7
million to support both Special Olympics and the mission of inclusion and acceptance for people
with intellectual disabilities. In North Carolina, more than $112,000 has been raised since 2010.
This funding supports year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of
Olympic-type sports throughout the United States.

The North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run is a year-long effort to raise funds for Special
Olympics North Carolina. Officers run a 16-day relay passing the Flame of Hope across the
state. The relay culminates in the lighting of the cauldron to begin the SONC Summer
Games. The Torch Run has raised more than $19 million for SONC since the late
1980’s. Special Olympics North Carolina provides year-round sports training and competition
for nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics North
