WORLD HISTORY: The purpose of this AP World History course is to prepare students for the AP World History Exam. The required reading and coursework associated with this AP World History course will encourage students to look at history from a global prospective. Students will look at the development of human history from ancient times to the present analyzing social, economic, political, religious and technological themes that have made the world what it is today. AHLIN GRADING POLICY Students’ grades are based on homework and in-class assignments, reading quizzes, essays and exams. Grades A-C will be computed based on a five-point scale. If a student earns a D, he or she will receive one point towards their GPA. Grades are weighted within the course as follows: Homework/Class-work 20% Quizzes 25% Essays 20% Exams 35% GRADE SCALE A B C D F 90 - 100% 80 - 89% 70 - 79% 60 - 69% 59 – 00% CLASS PARTICIPATION Students will be appropriately graded for daily class participation. This means that students must have regular class attendance and will not be allowed to leave during class unless they have written requests from administrators or a signed parent excuse for medical appointments (must be accompanied by Town Hall Pass from front office). RESTROOM PASSES are restricted in this class (2 passes per semester). If you have a medical condition that warrants special attention, it is your responsibility to notify administrators. Take care of personal business before or after class time. NOTE: Students will adhere to the Heritage High School Behavioral Code, outlined in the 2012-2013 Parent/Student Handbook. A copy of these class policies will be kept in your AP World History class binder, as well as on file with the Heritage High School Assistant Principals. APPROPRIATE SUPPLIES (DUE in class Monday, August 6th) One three-ring binder (1” at least) 8-1/2 X 11’ college ruled notebook paper (LOTS!!) Blue or black ink pens (no other colors) No. 2 lead pencils (with eraser) CLASS RULES Be On Time (in your seat when the bell rings or you are TARDY) Be Ready To Work (bring binder to class everyday with paper and pencil/pen) Be Kind To Yourself And Others Be Aware of Deadlines Food And Drink Remain Outside Of The Classroom Remain in Your Seat Until the Bell Rings No Passes To Leave Class Unless Absolutely Necessary (2 bathroom passes per semester) If Possible, You Should Help Others. THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED IN CLASS: Food Drinks (water only) Snacks Disruptive Behaviors Candy Personal Grooming Disruptive Behaviors Cell Phones, IPODS, Etc. MISCELLANEOUS PROCEDURES A learning environment must be maintained in the classroom. Do not disrupt this environment. Restroom privileges may be exercised 10 minutes after the bell and will cease 10 minutes before class is dismissed. You must have a completed hall pass from me to use the restroom. Each student will receive only TWO bathroom passes each quarter and must complete the sign-out sheet when leaving the classroom. There is zero tolerance for vulgar language or racial slurs. ABSENCE POLICY If you are absent and desire to make up the work you may have missed, here are the steps you must take. In-class/Homework Assignments: Students are responsible for obtaining the assignment(s) on days they are absent from the assignment binder and/or the course website. Students will have the number of days they are absent (excused) to make up the work. Please note that not all assignments are available via the course website as they are not available in electronic format. These assignments will only be available in class. Missed Essays: All of our essays will be written IN CLASS. If you are absent on the day we write an essay you must schedule a time after school to write the essay you missed within two calendar days of your absence or receive a 0 (zero) on the assignment.
