Meehan honored by LASC Loyola’s Student Government Association advisor Camille Meehan was named to the Student Council Advisors Hall of Fame earlier this month in New Orleans. She was recognized by the Louisiana Student Council State Convention (LASC) and was given her trophy and pin by Loyola Principal Frank Israel. “This is a very small group of people who have all given decades of service to forming student leaders,” Israel said. “To be appointed to this group is a huge honor for Camille and for our Student Council. Camille and I first met many years ago through Student Council. Camille is a familiar face to the annual convention and to the summer leadership workshop in Natchitoches. Many, many faces have come and gone over those years. The average tenure for student council advisor is probably about four or five years; Camille has been LCP Student Council's rock far longer.” Your kindness is appreciated ... Loyola English teacher Betsy Yates was among those on board the cruise ship Costa Concordia when it collided with rocks off the Italian coast on Jan. 13. Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents, I appreciate, more than I can express, your thoughts, prayers, emails, and phone calls. Jim, Patsy, Leigh, and I are fine. It was a birthday I shall never forget. I haven’t talked to the media because I think the “story” should be about the wonderful Italian people who live on Isola del Giglio, work at the Hilton(at the airport), and work at the American Embassy in Rome, and they (the media) don’t agree with me. Again, thank you so much. -- Betsy Yates Loyola’s Keri Jankowski (far right) was one of the winners when she competed in the Junior Science & Humanities Symposium earlier this month in Baton Rouge and was awarded fourth place for her original research titled “Effects of Cytomegalovirus and Hyperglycemia on Brain Endothelial Cells.” News&Notes u Congratulations to Meagan Tinsley and Zoey Lex, whose theater troupe, The Academy of Children’s Theater, won Outstanding Performance/ 1st Place in their category this past weekend at the International Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, GA. Assistance needed for Flyer Relays The Loyola Track & Field will host the 2nd Annual LCP Flyer Relays on Friday, March 2nd at Lee Hedges Stadium. The meet begins at 4 p.m. with the field events and the running events will begin at 4:45 p.m. There are several ways that parents can get involved and help the track and field team with this meet. 1. Meet Workers - recording times and putting medals in envelopes are just a couple of the tasks that require no previous experience that can help us run a smooth meet. 2. Hospitality Room donations - Would you be willing to donate food/drink items that will be available to coaches and officials? 3. Attending the meet and bringing out friends and relatives to support the Flyer Track & Field Team - Cost is $5 at the gate. 4. Corporate Title Sponsor - for $1,000 your business/organization place the company name in the title of the meet. This will show everyone that your business is serious about supporting you people. 5. Buying an advertisement in the Meet Program - 1/2 page ad is $50. A full page ad is $100. Please contact Coach Byrd at jbyrd@loyolaprep.org or 7735206 if you are interested in supporting the track and field team with the 2012 LCP Flyer Relays. The Browns’ daughter, Alex, was killed in a one-car accident on her way to school in November, 2010. The Browns began the Remembering Alex Brown Foundation to tell high school students about the potential consequences of texting and driving. Included in the presentation was the truck in which Alex Brown was driving when she was killed.
