Case study packs Eradicating Sick Building Syndrome An office environment prone to draughts, difficult to control temperatures and stale air was causing high absentee rates and a bad working experience for staff in the call centre at Flagship Housing, Dereham, Norfolk. An improvement was required to ensure that the old R22 cassettes and high wall units were not merely replaced with modern versions of the same thing, causing the same old continuous complaints and their obvious effect on productivity. SCL Managed Services Ltd put forward the use of our draught free small duct system to the client. This system would solve the issue of draughts and hot/cold spots that had caused years of complaints. To further improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and make the workspace a healthy environment, Flagship included the High Efficiency Purification System (HEPS) with the systems to remove viruses, bacteria, smells, airborne chemicals and particulates down to 0.3 microns. Seven systems, spread over six offices were installed. Each office was then able to attain an even and draught-free temperature throughout. In addition, the units were installed area by area during the refurbishment to ensure that the client could continue to operate without loss of service provision. The air systems are set up so that when neither cooling nor heating are required, the air handlers still operate to continuously clean the air and maintain that high level of quality. This will improve attendance records by reducing bugs such as colds & flus. Flagship Housing commented: “We have gone from a situation of having a “sick” building with lots of complaints from the team to a situation where their workplace is probably their healthiest environment. We don’t miss those draught complaints!” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. Draught-free office air conditioning International property developer Regnum was developing new rental office space near Tower Bridge, London. Comfort was a top priority as the space available was so compact. However, Regnum was faced with a familiar challenge: How could they introduce the cooling requirement without creating the uncomfortable problem of air conditioning draughts? How could they avoid their clients’ inevitable complaints of being too hot or too cold? Regnum’s owner had the answer. He had previously attended a free CPD presentation by The Ingenious Air Company and knew our draught-free and discreet small duct system provided the perfect solution. One Montreal system was paired with a 10kW inverter heat pump condensing unit. This supplied cooling, heating and individual climate control to the two main office areas, which extended over two floors. Discreet, white air outlets were positioned in the ceilings near to the walls. This out of traffic positioning, combined with the system’s unique induction air pattern movement, eliminated all draughts. Regnum’s clients are happy with their rental offices, which provide perfect climate control and comfortable, even temperatures. Mr. Mufit Alpsu, Owner, Regnum “We achieved perfect climate control in areas which would have been difficult to cool without the flexibility of a small duct system. Our tenants are comfortable and have no complaints about draughts. The discreetness of the system enhanced the quality of our office interior. The system was especially beneficial in the meeting room, which has a low ceiling and where draughts would otherwise have been unavoidable.” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. Air outlets provide the perfect decorative finish for a chain of Pandora jewellery shops Pandora is the UK’s leading silver jewellery brand. A chain of Pandora shops in the North of England required an unobtrusive air conditioning system, which would provide the perfect, comfortable and controllable environment to showcase beautiful jewellery. It was extremely important that visitors enjoyed their shopping experience in a luxurious setting, and were not distracted by unsightly equipment, uncomfortable draughts or hot or cold spots. The discreet and versatile Hi-Velocity small duct system is designed to create the perfect, draught-free indoor climate through its unique air movement pattern; its discreet air outlets ensure the highest decorative finish is reached on every installation. The system proved to be an idea match for Pandora’s exacting standards. A Toronto Hi-Velocity system was installed at Pandora’s new shop in Liverpool’s Liverpool One shopping centre. This was so successful that a smaller Montreal Hi-Velocity system was soon installed in the Pandora shop in Manchester’s Arndale Centre. In both cases standard air cooled condensing units could not have been used because of their long pipe runs. Water cooled condensing units were connected to the centre’s existing condenser water loop. The Hi-Velocity systems were both installed quickly and easily in the early stages of refit for both shops. ‘Plug and play’ fittings and fewer components than other systems meant installation had less impact on the build schedule than would normally be expected. Discreet air outlet vent plates placed in out of traffic areas in the ceiling blended seamlessly into the decor. They also freed up wall and floor space compared with other, bulky air conditioning systems. The team at Pandora were delighted that the Hi-Velocity small duct system had blended so well into the shop’s luxurious environment, and that it created the perfect indoor climate for their staff and valued customers. Heating, cooling and ventilation for a listed London library Wandsworth Borough Council required a cost effective heating, cooling and fresh air ventilation system when their Grade one listed building and museum was converted into a library. A flexible system was needed to blend inconspicuously into the renovated building with minimum disruption, while maintaining the original features. Members of Wandsworth Council first saw our small duct system at an exhibition in 2008 and were impressed by the discreet outlets. They subsequently attended a CIBSE CPD presentation to find out more. Our system was specified for the project following a feasibility study and approval from the architects that the system would maintain the aesthetics. Four Toronto systems, with total cooling and heating capacities of 45 kW and 80 kW respectively (one of the systems is heating only) were installed. Each system handles 50% fresh air and operates in conjunction with efficient, sustainable energy, inverter driven air source heat pumps, together with the LPHW heating coil incorporated in the air handling unit. Effective multiple-zoning allowed individual time and temperature control for the main areas. A variety of discreet air outlets were positioned in out of traffic areas in the walls and floors to eliminate draughts, save space and complement the décor of each area. Brushed aluminum outlets were chosen for under the windows. The library manager and staff are delighted that the aesthetics of the building have been maintained and are enjoying the environment provided. The new library was officially opened by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, on October 21st 2009. Wandsworth Borough Council “All expectations were met. The aesthetics of the listed building were maintained due to the unobtrusive, draught free and quiet Toronto systems. The library manager and staff are pleased with the environment provided by the energy efficient heat pumps.” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. The perfect draught-free dining environment Bernadette’s is a tastefully decorated two-story restaurant in historic Stratford-upon-Avon. The restaurant was undergoing refurbishment and needed a complete new heating and cooling system. The owners had a vision of creating the perfect dining experience. They wanted clients to enjoy a luxurious and relaxing environment, with perfect climate control. They were concerned the lack of ceiling void would lead to visible, unsightly air conditioning equipment and uncomfortable draughts. The owners also wanted to make the best commercial use of the available space and enhance the stylish interior design. Our draught-free, space saving and discreet small duct system met all requirements and was the perfect solution. One Vancouver system with two zones was installed during refurbishment. Zone one served the downstairs dining area and bar and Zone two served the upstairs dining area. This allowed the temperature of each area to be controlled separately. As there was no ceiling void, unobtrusive air outlets were positioned horizontally along the length of a bulkhead above the bar. A white finish ensured the outlets blended perfectly into the interior design. Using the bulkhead also created extra space for diners by freeing up floor and wall space as no radiators, large units or grilles were required. Our system’s unique imperceptible air movement, using Bernoulli’s Theorem and the Venturi Effect, ensured even temperatures throughout the restaurant. The restaurant provides the perfect dining experience and enjoys a competitive advantage by being able to guarantee that clients never have to sit in an air conditioning draught. Anne, Restaurant Manager: “The Toronto system has worked well. It means our clients are comfortable and can enjoy their meals without anyone having to sit under a draught.” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. Creating the perfect working environment for employees at Sportsafe UK Sportsafe UK needed a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) solution for their newly created offices, which had been developed by extending into their warehouse facility. The main office floor was open plan, which traditionally holds problems when it comes to maintaining an even, comfortable room temperature. Three smaller side offices also required heating, cooling and ventilation. In addition, the new offices had been designed in a silver and black industrial theme; ideally Sportsafe wanted a HVAC solution which would complement the décor. One Toronto Hi-Velocity system was specified to work in harmony with a 20kW inverter heat pump to provide both heating and cooling. To complement the industrial feel of the décor the open plan area, large pre-insulated, light weight silver duct was used to supply the treated air, instead of the usual ceiling, wall or floor mounted air outlets associated with our small duct systems. The duct had apertures cut at the exact points where air needed to be distributed, ensuring the staff at Sportsafe enjoyed the same levels of comfort that Sharp laboratories found the solution they needed through the Hi-Velocity small duct system. The systems provided easy, hassle free installation and maintenance and was flexible enough to carry out all the required functions. In addition, the modular system gives Sharp the option of simply adding the HEPS purifier (as used by NASA on the NASA space station) should use of the lab change or the level of ventilation and air purification need to be increased to a high level. Panasonic gain the ultimate manufacturing environment in their Cardiff based factory Panasonic required 120kW of cooling in a clean, dust free environment that could be controlled within 1 oC for an assembly room at their factory in Cardiff. The initial client design required fresh air to be pulled into the assembly room from outside the building - positively pressurising the room to stop dust getting in – until The Ingenious Air Company suggested a different system design could save on installation and energy costs. Working with contractor Celtic Cooling and Heating Ltd of Cardiff, the new system specified incorporated seven 20kW Toronto units with the HEPS purifier. The system design was altered, so that instead of bringing fresh air into the room from outside, the HEPS purifier was sited local to the assembly room, mixing the room air and factory air, and then cleaning it to remove viruses, bacteria, smells, airborne chemicals and particulates down to 0.3 microns. This change offered two big advantages: 1) The system no longer required the use of large external air handling units and the associated ductwork to pump the fresh air into the room, saving on installation costs. 2) The system was more efficient as it provided less air movement and there were additional energy savings as there was no outside air to heat – the system was already utilising warm indoor air. In addition the system also offered the required temperature control to within 1 oC, along with constant even temperatures wall to wall and ceiling to floor. The system has been working for a number of years and is still offering Panasonic the ultimate in clean climate control. The client even commented that when painters were painting in an area adjacent to the assembly room there was no smell of paint, where the HEPS purifier and Toronto small duct systems were so effective at cleaning the air. The perfect cooling solution for this iconic, listed function room The Jockey Club at Newmarket is a magnificent Grade ll listed building and a popular venue for private and corporate functions. The iconic Coffee Room is the oldest of the reception rooms, dating back to 1752, and showcases a remarkable collection of famous equestrian paintings and historic racing trophies. The impressive bronze statue of the Classic Derby winner Hyperion can be viewed through imposing arched Georgian windows. Unfortunately, the Coffee Room was unusable in warm weather due to overheating. The many windows are large and high-level. A discrete cooling system was urgently needed. A traditional unsightly air conditioning system would spoil the stunning setting. One 19.5kW Toronto Hi-Velocity heat pump system provided perfect climate control. Cooling and back-up heating were enhanced by a combination of re-circulated and damper controlled fresh air supply. Provision has been made to fit an energy saving CO2 sensor, which controls fresh air supply to match the occupancy of the room. English Heritage agreed the finish of white air outlet vent plates to blend unobtrusively into the impressive interior design. Our discreet system creates the perfect indoor climate whilst maintaining the prestigious atmosphere. The Coffee Room no longer overheats and is enjoyed for events all year round. Mr. Bob Senior, Consultant M & E Engineer, KJ Tait Engineers The unusually shaped room was difficult to service with very little accessible wall-space, and only the tall ceiling through which to locate ventilation. Air outlets had minimal impact on the coved ceiling and the slim ducts were compact enough to fit in the existing timber roof structure without expensive or intrusive alterations. This delighted the Conservation Officer and the Club. The Events Manager is pleased with the resulting environment in the room, which is appreciably cooler than before. This allows the Club to take bookings year-round. Previously they had to advise clients to avoid the room for large events in the summer months. The Hi-Velocity system saves the day at the Welsh Rugby Football Union offices in the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff The people working in the Welsh Rugby Union offices in the Millennium Stadium were suffering from cold feet. The heat from their ceiling cassettes, which had been installed during an office re-fit, was causing an uncomfortable draught and most importantly – their feet were cold. The stadium management asked Celtic Cooling and Heating Ltd to use their experience to help. They proposed the Hi-Velocity mini duct air distribution system to provide an ideal solution. The discrete air outlet vent plates could be positioned in out of traffic areas to eliminate draughts. In addition, the destratification effect of the system, created by a combination of the Bernoulli and Venturi principles, would ensure that heat was delivered uniformly throughout the office, with no hot or cold spots. Two 18kW Hi-Velocity systems were installed out of hours over two weekends. As the requirement was for mainly for heating, the Hi-Velocity air handler was supplied with a hot water coil and connected to a local hot water service. This avoided the problem of overly long pipe runs, which make DX systems difficult and expensive to install. The people who were suffering most were those whose work stations were nearest the full height windows. The flexibility of Hi-Velocity enabled the contractor to position the air outlets in the ceiling along the window. This out of traffic location protected the occupants from both the heat loss through the window and the draught. Follow up The installation was so successful that other areas of the Millennium Stadium are now being quoted for the same Hi-Velocity solution. Mr Alan Lewis, the Millennium Stadium “We had ceiling cassettes installed during an office refurbishment. Apart from the draughts they weren’t too bad in the summer. In the winter the staff complained bitterly of being too cold. The heat from the cassettes was not reaching their feet and they were uncomfortable. We had two Hi-Velocity systems installed and straight away the problem was resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.” Benefits The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. A chilling experience in the world’s most extreme horror maze When Thorpe Park in Surrey converted an old time river steamer into a large walk through maze based on the “SAW” series of horror films, ventilation was essential for both the customers and the actors working in parts of the maze. Hampshire contractors Rossair Ltd undertook the installation. Our small duct systems are high pressure air distribution systems, which work by creating high pressure in a plenum duct. This method of air delivery enables our air handlers to operate with up to 70m of plenum duct. The Toronto system was therefore the ideal choice to deliver fresh air to the areas required in this extensive area. The plenum duct was connected to a series of small ducts, which terminate in drilled air delivery outlets – specifically sized holes in the ductwork. In order to add to the atmosphere of the ride, the ductwork was left on show. During installation the client decided that heating & cooling were also required. A DX coil was easily added to the air handler and connected to a Daikin inverter heat pump condensing unit. This changed the system from fresh air delivery only to a full cooling, heating and ventilation system, which provided a high level of indoor air quality. Rossair Ltd installed and completed the project on time and to everyone's satisfaction. The client is now enjoying complete heating, cooling and fresh air ventilation. Their customers are enjoying the most terrifying walk ever! Brace yourself before visiting this particular Ingenious Air Company installation. The Toronto system saved space and provided essential fresh air ventilation for actors and visitors in this indoor maze. The system was initially installed for fresh air ventilation only. An energy efficient retrofit air conditioning and ventilation solution for Mazuma Mobile Mazuma Mobile needed to add air conditioning and ventilation to several occupied offices and light engineering areas that already had gas fired radiator central heating systems in place. Key requirements were individual time and temperature control for each area and minimal disruption of business during the retrofit. In addition, the team needed to be comfortable and importantly no one wanted to be working in a draught. Two Toronto Hi-Velocity systems were retro-fitted without disturbing the normal run of business. A multiple zone control system was used to give each occupied area separate control, allowing temperature levels to be set to suit individual preferences. Fresh air ventilation was introduced via the Hi-Velocity system, as well as air conditioning. This gave the Mazuma team superior indoor air quality. Discreet air outlet vent plates were positioned in out of traffic areas in the ceiling of the offices, to save space and eliminate the problem of draughts. For the light engineering areas with no false ceiling, Spiralite highly insulated light weight duct was used with precision drilled holes to keep the team comfortable. The old boilers and radiators were replaced as the main heat source by air source heat pump units supplied and installed with the Hi-Velocity systems. The Mazuma Mobile team, whether office or engineering area based, enjoy a superior indoor climate, along with highly responsive temperature control to create the perfect working environment. Keeping things cool in a commercial kitchen It wasn’t just food that was cooking in The Gynsills Pub and Restaurant in Leicester, the kitchen team was boiling in the unrelenting heat too! The kitchen was humid and steamed up, and even the extract system gave no respite. The restaurant manager asked ADM Ventilation Ltd from Haverhill, Suffolk to find a solution to cool the kitchen in an energy efficient way. ADM knew the perfect equipment to provide perfect year round climate control: The Toronto Hi-Velocity small duct system. ADM Ventilation installed one Toronto air handling unit on the roof. This was connected to pre-insulated ‘easy clean’ ducting, which delivered air to specific locations in the kitchen. The system was designed to use full fresh air on all but the warmest of days. This saved energy by reducing the running time of the air conditioning outdoor unit. It also avoided the problem of filters becoming ‘greased up’ – a common problem with kitchen air conditioning - and removed the need for maintenance inside the kitchen. The system also reduced the humidity, and helped keep the air clean by reducing cooking odours and fumes. The Hi-Velocity system gave the team a welcome oasis of cooling in perfectly chosen, convenient spots. The kitchen became a more enjoyable and pleasant place to work. Mr. Maurice White ADM Ventilation Ltd “Fitting the Hi-Velocity system solved the issue for the client in a very environmentally friendly way. The team at The Ingenious Air Company was a great help”. Professional sporting conditions for Falcon Sports Centre The committee members of The Falcon Sports Centre in Slough had a problem. They needed to provide perfect heating and cooling for clients using the three badminton courts in their new sports hall. But they had two major concerns: • In summer they worried that the hall could not be air conditioned evenly, and that draughts from the air conditioning would affect the flight of the shuttlecock and ruin the badminton games. • In winter they worried that the 6.5m high ceiling would cause all the warm air to rise and be lost. Mechanical Consultants, John Noad (Building Environment) Ltd, had experienced our draught-free small duct system in previous projects. They knew it would solve both concerns. John Noad installed four Toronto systems. These provided almost 80KW of cooling and heating to the space via an insulated plenum duct running around the periphery at 6m high. They installed a fifth Toronto system to provide heating and cooling for the office, reception and crèche areas. The system’s unique entrainment air movement pattern ensures air movement is imperceptible and creates even temperatures from floor to ceiling. Heat that would normally gather in the high level ceilings is harvested, reducing the amount of energy needed to heat the hall. Discreet air outlets placed in out of traffic areas also keep the hall draught-free. The unique air movement created even temperatures throughout the new sports hall. Players are comfortable and enjoy their game of badminton without risk of the shuttlecock being blown off course. In addition, because the Toronto systems were connected to energy efficient heat pumps, The Falcon Centre is now heated and cooled in an environmentally friendly way. Stuart East, Director, Joan Noad (Environmental Building) Ltd “The Toronto systems provided the ideal solution for air distribution from a substantial vaulted roof. The system demonstrated excellent energy efficiency and CO2 emissions well within the Part L requirements, and when used with a reverse cycle heat pump also satisfies renewable energy requirements.” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. An energy efficient solution for a heavy engineering factory Alchrist Engineering Ltd in Essex had no heating in the manufacturing area of their factory. Having already endured one freezing winter the company urgently needed to find a heating solution before the onset of more cold weather. Key requirements were for a cost effective and energy efficient system that could be installed with minimal interference to production. Standard heat pump air conditioning units could not be used as the ceiling was either too high or too low. There was no space to hang the units and there would have been difficulties with air flow. In addition, the factory had very little electricity available for heat pump units Two Toronto Hi-Velocity systems were installed in conjunction with two 30kW gas fired hot water boilers, and connected to an unused gas main. Hi-Velocity’s unique de-stratification effect continually harvests and evenly redistributes the warm air, which usually rises and becomes trapped at ceiling level. This overcomes the air flow problems of standard air conditioning units and ensures heat is delivered to exactly where it is needed, without draughts. For Alchrist Engineering, the added benefit was that the operating time of the heat source (the two boilers), was reduced. This gives a reduction in energy use and costs, and helps reduce the company’s carbon footprint. Costs were also reduced as de-stratification meant no insulation was required on the metal duct work. The heated air was delivered via apertures drilled directly into the ductwork. The unique energy efficient action of Bernoulli’s Theorem and the Venturi Effect ensured all areas of the conditioned space reached the required temperature rapidly and evenly, and remained at a constant temperature. The project was completed on time with minimum disruption to production and the company enjoyed a comfortable, warm winter. Mr. Steve Smith, Owner, Alchrist Engineering Ltd, Essex “The two Hi-Velocity systems heat the factory well and distribute the heat evenly to all areas. This would have been difficult to achieve without using Hi-Velocity. We especially appreciate the benefits on cold mornings.” The Ingenious Air Company is the UK’s leading expert on small duct systems Call us today on 0800 7316352 / 01268 544530 to find out how we can create your perfect indoor climate. Keeping airport passengers cool in the toughest of climates Passengers at the New Doha International Airport needed a cool place to wait for the terminal shuttle bus after parking in the long term car park. Doha, the capital city of Qatar in the Persian Gulf has a subtropical arid climate: Temperatures average over 380C from May to September and often reach an uncomfortable 500C. Our draught-free and discreet small duct system was chosen to provide air conditioning for ten bus shelters serving users of the long term car park. The bus shelters are located adjacent to the main terminal. One Montreal system, coupled with a heat pump and the HEPS air purification system, was required per shelter. Discreet air outlets discharge treated air horizontally at high level from around the central hub. Return air from below the seats creates a draught-free and purified environment. The bus shelter has a striking and contemporary design. Materials and finishes are of the highest quality, which is the standard expected by the clients in this world class airport facility. Features include a double door with an airlock layout to achieve maximum cooling efficiency. The glass is high specification and thermal efficient to ensure a comfortable environment. Unobtrusive, white air outlets blend perfectly into the sleek finish and clean lines. The HEPS air purification module is a fast, effective and powerful in-duct air purifier, which cleans air down to the last molecule. NASA chose the HEPS Purifier to protect astronauts in the newest space station from illness, allergy and toxic chemicals (VOCs). The same advanced technology is now providing a cleaner and healthier environment for the passengers at the New Doha International Airport. Future-proof your energy bills by installing air source heat pumps Rising costs in gas and electricity are making many heating and cooling systems more and more expensive to run. Despite the additional cost, the installation of green, efficient energy sources such as heat pumps and solar panels are becoming popular, as people look to offset installation costs against long term running costs. Our Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver systems work in conjunction with all known alternative energy sources to reduce fuel bills and your carbon footprint. Many of our systems incorporate air source heat pumps for use in both heating and cooling. Heat pumps work with thermal energy, absorbing heat from the outside air to either heat water (air to water heat pumps), or distribute warm air (air to air heat pumps). However, it’s not all about producing heat, reversible heat pumps work in either thermal direction to provide heating or cooling to an internal space. The heat pumps are extremely efficient because their energy does not create heat, but simply moves the heat from one place (outside air) to another (indoor air/water/refrigerant). This means that even at low operating levels and low outside air temperatures, a typical heat pump will only use 1kW of electricity to produce 3kWs of heat. The heat pumps we recommend offer a ratio of 1kW energy to 4kWs heat, delivering substantial energy savings. We work with both air to air and air to water heat pumps and even have installations utilising both. The type of pump incorporated varies according to the size and type of installation, as all systems are designed bespoke to requirements. Pair a heat pump with intelligent controls such as the Nest Learning Thermostat and you will be running a highly efficient, low carbon system, which will provide significant cost savings. To further enhance your green credentials our small duct systems work on the principle of de-stratification to harvest heat that would otherwise gather at high levels inside buildings. The system re-distributes the warm air that has risen to the ceilings and brings it back down to floor level, meaning that less heat is wasted throughout the building. For the same reason room temperature is reached quicker and the heat pump can run for less time, so saving energy and money. Installation costs may also be cheaper than you think, with just 5% VAT payable on residential installations. Savvy business/home owners can even look to sell energy back to the grid through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive. For an indoor climate so pure, you could be in the Rockies Unless you work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week in the great outdoors it’s fair to say that most of your time is spent inside. As worrying as it sounds, indoor air is full of pollutants such as dust mites, bacteria, viruses, mold spores, animal hair, pollen and chemicals. Those suffering from indoor allergies or poor respiratory health (asthma, hay fever, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, etc.) living or working in heavily polluted environments (cities), or working in jobs exposing them to high levels of pollutants, (hospitals, factories, etc.) can find their health failing and their lives becoming a misery. The High Efficiency Purification System (HEPS) module is an optional extra for our Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver systems. It is a powerful in-duct air purifier, which cleans air down to the last molecule, up to 3000 square feet per purifier. The HEPS purifier creates superior indoor air quality by deactivating all three types of serious indoor air pollutants: 1. Airborne disease-causing microscopic particles Microscopic particles are bacteria (1 to 0.3 microns in size) and viruses (0.001 microns). They cause infectious diseases including influenza, common colds, tuberculosis, legionella and c.difficile. 2. Airborne primary sources of allergy Particulates are 0.3 - 10 microns in size and can trigger allergies, hay fever, asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. They include pollen, fungal spores, dust mite, pet dander and tobacco smoke. The HEPS significantly reduces allergy symptoms - fatigue, headache, coughing, sneezing, runny, itchy, stuffy nose, red, itchy, watery eyes, wheezing and shortness of breath. 3. Airborne toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) VOCs are carbon-based chemicals, which evaporate at room temperature and cause fumes and odours. These gas-phase chemicals are 0.001 micron and smaller. They include carbon monoxide, fumes and odours from paint solvents, car exhausts, pesticides, cleaning fluids and alcohol. VOCs can cause short and long-term ill health. To get these results the HEPS combines three powerful technologies including high efficiency electrostatic particle filtration, titanium photo-catalytic oxidation and ultraviolet germicidal air disinfection. As an added bonus, installation of the HEPS Purifier benefits our systems too. It eliminates mould and dirt build up on the evaporator cooling coils and heat exchanger surfaces, increases energy efficiency and reduces the need for duct cleaning. Be in complete control with Google’s Nest Learning Thermostat Many residential and commercial properties suffer from poor thermostatic control. Even with a well programmed thermostat, many still need to override the system for additional heating or cooling. This is fine until you forget to turn the system off and leave it running while you leave the office for the weekend or have it on overnight at home while you are in bed. Good thermostatic control of your heating and cooling systems saves you energy, money and makes your environment a more comfortable place to be in. Owned by internet giants Google, the Nest Learning Thermostat has been developed to learn your own personal schedule and programme itself based on your day-to-day routines. All you need to do is turn it up and turn it down to teach it what you like and when. Use the system for a few days and within a week, it'll start setting the temperatures you want automatically. The system really comes into its own with its Auto-Away™ technology. The Nest controller automatically turns to an energy-efficient ‘Away’ temperature when it senses no movement within the building, ensuring you are not heating or cooling the building unnecessarily. The system is so advanced that a one-off adjustment won’t confuse it, and should you need to make a one-off change or alter your set routine, you can edit your schedule in seconds on the Nest controller or remotely using your Nest account. The Nest Mobile App also means you can talk to the controller while on the move, so even if you are returning four hours early, you can ensure your office or home is at the correct temperature when you arrive through the door. Alongside its Auto-Away™ technology, Nest uses sensors to sense temperatures, humidity and activity. The controller also receives Wi-Fi updates direct to keep an eye on current weather conditions and forecasts so it can understand how the outside temperature affects your energy use. The controller offers multi-room functionality with up to 10 thermostats being controlled from one Nest Account. In addition, if you have Nests in two locations (say your home and office) you can control both from just one Nest Account. Using a controller like the Nest Learning Thermostat is a match made in heaven with our small duct systems. Nest not only gives you stylish control of your indoor climate, but also saves you money too. Our discreet and stylish air outlets can create your perfect look Traditional methods of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) invariably involve ceiling/wall hung cassettes and radiators. The very nature of how these systems work, means hot and cold spots, uneven room temperatures and draughts are a common side effect in homes and businesses across the UK. Not only are bulky radiators and cassettes unsightly, they also take up valuable wall space and can prove impractical in many installations. For example, in offices where the HVAC system is installed before the final room layout has been decided, it then becomes likely units will need repositioning at a later date. Or in listed buildings, the building fabric can be damaged through the installation of radiators and cassettes. In addition, radiators with a high surface temperature are unsuitable in some applications, as they pose a burn hazard to the elderly, infirm or the very young. Our Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver small vent systems use discreet and unobtrusive air outlet vent plates to blend perfectly into any interior design and layout you choose. They can be sited in walls, ceilings, floors or bulkheads and are available in many compositions including plastic, metal and wood. The highly versatile air outlets can even be painted any colour of your choice to blend in seamlessly with any décor. If we don’t have exactly what you want, you can even design your own. The discreet air outlets are positioned in out of traffic areas to ensure heating and cooling is draught-free, responsive and operates at an even temperature throughout the room. The positioning also ensures you free-up valuable wall space, allowing you to make the most of your room. And should you need to move a vent, due to the very nature of the system, re-siting is quick, easy and more cost effective than moving radiators or air conditioning cassettes. In buildings that need more sensitive solutions, e.g. listed buildings where the décor has a significant value (physically and historically), or luxury residential where style is everything, small vent systems are an ideal fit. Add to the fact that we can offer a 5-in-1 solution for heating, cooling, ventilating, dehumidification and air purification all from the same air outlets (ensuring less hassle when it comes to installation and maintenance than separate systems), and you’ll soon see the beauty of our systems isn’t just in their looks, but also in their clever design and ease of installation too.
