Happy New Year! from IN theBAG Support and Education – Keys to Healthy Families P arenting Way is a non-profit human service organization that provides parents with expert education and advocacy to build healthy families and strengthen the parent/child relationship. Comprehensive parent education classes are for anyone in need of additional information and skills to be a good parent. The organization also works to meet the needs of parents and caregivers who lack knowledge due to their own family history. Parenting Way supports those who have extra challenges related to mental health and other special needs. The organization offers a great learning environment for parents, including meeting areas for support groups and youth and children’s programs. Programs provide ongoing, concrete support that encompasses the family as a whole, addresses isolation and barriers to par- ticipation, and builds protective factors that may be lacking due to both past and current trauma. It is important to engage parents, family, and community so they can seek the resources and supports needed to keep children safe. Parenting Way programs strive to make communities healthier and safer with the help of committed individuals who understand the connection between strong, skilled families and the well-being of children. Parenting Way is one of the first agencies to utilize ACE’s (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Factors Study and Trauma - Informed Care research in programs. This approach engages participants and gives them perspective to grow and move away from a dysfunctional past toward a stable, successful future for themselves and their children. Initial results show that implementation of ACE’s study factors in class curriculum has been highly effective in helping participants learn, cope, and build resiliency and competency. For additional information about the organization, including programs and services in Iowa, visit www.parentingway.org or call 515-255-9490. Located in West Des Moines, IA in the familiar Valley Junction area, Parenting Way is easily accessible by public transportation. PREFERRED PROVIDER IN theBAG has been awarded a two-year preferred-provider catering contract with NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway company that provides organizations and individuals with access to private aircraft for business and individual needs. In fact, IN theBAG is the only local preferred provider to cater NetJets flights arriving and departing airports in Des Moines, Ankeny, and Ames. Because flight safety and reliability are top priorities at NetJets, everything IN theBAG creates for them must live up to the highest standards. For example, pilots order separate items off an approved menu in the event of adverse food reactions during flight. Additionally, a streamlined logistics plan that aligns catering with arrival and departure times of NetJets passengers and pilots is necessary at all times. According to IN theBAG owner Mike Taylor, important, unique considerations like these have inspired “us to pick up our game as an organization,” which translates to even better service for IN theBAG customers whose feet are firmly planted on Greater Des Moines ground.
