Panicking? Don’t know where
to start? Oh, I know that feeling. It’s
exam time! That time of the year when
the sun is so bright, the pressure is escalating and the air is filled with anxious
twitter of dawn birdsongs. Many students are still awake at 3 o’clock in the
morning to hear it, usually from the limbo of a darkened room while hunched
over a pile of books.
Exams can often be stressful and nerve-wracking. While some
stresses can actually be a positive motivator, being too nervous or tensed can
be a problem especially if it interferes
with your test-taking performances.
Here are some proven tips that
can help you make your exams less
traumatic.

. Organize your study space.
Try and get rid of all distractions,
and make sure you feel as comfortable and
able to focus as possible. For some people,
this may mean almost complete silence;
for others, background music helps. Some
of us need everything completely tidy and
organized in order to gain more concentration, while others thrive in a more cluttered
environment. Think about what works for
you, and take the time to get it right.

to interview the exemplary man profoundly drenched in creativity and
integrity, Dr .Eduardo H. Sison, I feel

A: UNC has now a drainage system

improve the drainage system. However, if the rain is too much, UNC will
still get flooded.

Hello UNCeans! Welcome to
the first issue of The Democrat for this
semester. Well, look at that! Time can
surely fly so fast. It has been just like
yesterday when we opened this semester and now we’re on the middle
of it.
Anyway, it’s been approximately two and a half months since
classes started and lots have happened already. Am I right?
But before we begin, how are
you doing? I mean, has the past two
months been kind to you? Are you
doing well? Did your crush notice you
already? If you nod in approval, then
let me give you my warmest congratulations. Keep it up! How about me?
For some crazy mishap, I feel like I’ve
been knocked on the head, smashed
on the floor and pitched under a rock.
Well, I was just blown away by the
controversies, issues and changes
happening in our beloved University
that has somehow affected the dynamic minds and hearts of our coeds.
Okay, enough for my dramatic introduction. Let’s proceed to the
core of my piece.
It’s been five months since
the new administrator occupied his
seat in the administration. It is also
the same time when our University
experienced drastic changes both
physical and psychological. By the
way, if you still don’t get the title of this
article, it only means “school issues”.
So, this article will tackle hot issues
and changes that have tremendously
affected the different elements of the
teaching-learning process.
My dearest UNCeans read
and see what I’m talking about.
E-library: What’s with it?
Last May, the construction
of the most anticipated E-library of
the university was already started.
Our admin has approximately allotted PHP30 million for this project.
According to our VPA, the University
E-library will feature state-of-the-art
library equipment and facilities such
as online books and journals, viewing
room, internet facilities, and modern
duplicating system. It will also have all
branch libraries of the University such
as those of the Graduate Studies,
Law, Engineering and Architecture,
High School and Elementary. Ma’am
Emma Moran, University Library Director, also added that the library will
have a photocopying machine, area
for e-thesis and e-articles. We also
have the learning commons which
according to her will be the first in the
Bicol region.
Last July 22, I was so fortunate because I was able to see the
blue print of the E-library. It is awesome! It’s really nice to have these facilities. It is something that our school
can be proud of. This e-library will certainly alleviate the standards of our
school when it comes to the teaching and learning processes. Well, our
school is keeping in phase when it
comes to technological advances.
Just this June, our school
proudly announced to the public that
we are the first in the Bicol region to
have this kind of facility. Many people,
especially people from the other planet, raised their brows as they doubt if
this will come true. Lots of scuttlebutts
are circulating saying that our school
was not the first in the region to have
this e-library. Well, I guess differences
on how we define and perceive certain things are really a big deal. My
stand on this issue:I really don’t care
whether we are the first or not, at least
our administration makes a move in
upgrading the status of our University.
Let’s just be proud that our school has
this one of a kind flair.
Sports Program: Are we ready?
Aside from the construction of
the library, the school puts another investment in the construction of a new
covered court. This facility will support the aims of the sports program
of the University. Last July, the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee recognized
the sports program of our school.
They promised that they are willing to
send national athletes, coaches and
experts to the University to enhance
the sports program of the school. The
Sports Development Office also prepared various trainings and activities
that will set the stage for UNCeans
with the necessary skills and interest
to further hone their talents and abilities in sports.
Having this program, we really need to take into consideration
lots of things such as the facilities,
availability of fund, and recruitment of
the students who will join the program
and the trainers and coaches.
In the facilities, I have nothing to say. Our admin is really working to have a facility needed for this
bustle. With regards to the availability
of fund, it’s already included in our tuition fee (just check your matriculation
form). In the recruitment of the students, lots of UNCeans have potentials in sports. When it comes to the
trainers and coaches, I suggest that
since our administration already put
effort in the construction of the facilities, may be they could send the trainers and coaches to a quality training
that will really enhance their skills and
knowledge in their field. If we have
the best coach, we can also have the
best athlete.
Glee Club Members and Majorettes: Doing an extra service?
Please do not be mistaken
with the term “extra service”. That’s
not what I mean. I’m pointing out the
memorandum issued last May stating
that the Glee club members and majorettes are required to render extra
hours in serving certain office. We all
know that our glee club performers
and majorettes receive scholarship.
They are granted an 18-unit free tuition fee. These people represent our
university in various competitions, social events and gatherings.
Upon hearing this stuff, at
first, I feel bad for them. Our glee club,
the ambassador of arts and culture of
our school, performed in various occasions in and out of the Bicol region.
Our majorettes, the precious gems of
our university, gave their best in every
engagement they have to attend.
To ensure fairness in this paper, I interviewed Mr. Melchor Idian,
our Administrative Officer. According to him, it is the VPA and him who
conceptualized this idea. He said that
they made this decision to maximize
the time rendered by the Glee club
and majorettes. He also added that
in a year, there are 71 engagements
(social gatherings, events, competitions, etc.) made by the band. And
out of 71, only 11 were participated
in by our majorettes. According also
to him, this decision will also help the
glee club members and majorettes in
a sense that this will serve as a form
of OJT for them.
Well, let’s just hope that this
kind of scheme will really jive in the
goals that the administration wants to
achieve. Let’s just pray for the betterment of everyone.
Policies for Employees: For Better
or For Worse?
Policies and guidelines are
set of rules and regulations that
aimed to achieve certain goals. They
are made to ensure everything will be
in order. As I told you in my prologue,
it’s been five months since the new
administrator seated in his throne.
And lots of policies or shall we say
memorandum have been circulated
in the school. In every policy, it has
always a purpose.
Let me cite to you three examples of this stuff.
First,
the
memorandum
issued last April 26 stating that all
non-teaching personnel who will
leave the campus within office hours
are required to sign their names in
the logbook at gates 1 and 2. They
are also subjected to inspection
of bags and packages which they
will bring in and out of the campus.
They are also directed to follow
their scheduled snack time per shift.
With this memorandum, we can fully
monitor if the non-teaching staff really
performed his/her duty. In this manner
also, we can make sure that these
people will work in accordance with
their schedule. On the other side, I’m
just hoping that the admin will not be
too harsh in the implementation of
this memorandum.
Second, the memorandum
dated April 29 stating that all heads
of department offices and employees
are responsible for maintaining
silence in their workplace and its
surroundings. One good thing
about this memorandum is that it
lessens the cause of disturbance or
inconvenience in the smooth running
of the office.
All I can say with this stuff is
that admin should also give time for
the employees to have fun doing their
work. Too much seriousness in work
can cause sickness.
Lastly, this is in connection
with the previous one, the rationalization of administrative scholars. In this
memorandum, it stated that (1) there
will be no hiring of Student Assistant
for 1st semester SY 2013-2014 onwards, (2) Student Assistant shall be
allowed to enroll one subject in both
morning and afternoon, (3) Members
of the Glee club and majorettes shall
be given extra work in the office. I
have no issues with regards to number 1 to 2. In number 3, our admin
already explained what are their reasons behind this idea.
Let’s just be optimistic
that this scheme will bring positive
changes in the working environment
of the university.
Personnel Director David: What’s
wrong with her?
At last, we’re down to the last
part of this article. Many told to me
that this is a delicate part of my piece.
Yes. I am hesitant at first to write
about this issue but as a writer, I want
you, my readers, to know the things
happening in our university.
Writing this article, I remembered a certain political commercial a
year ago, it says that, “Kung aram mo
ang issue, ika ma-iyo”.
Our Personnel Director for 18
years was Maám Divinagracia David.
She already spent 31 years of her life
serving the people of UNC. She dedicated her time and passion to make
the teaching and non-teaching in order. She has also been a professor
in almost all academic departments.
She attended various trainings, seminars and workshops that enhanced
her leadership.
Then all of a sudden, she was
stripped off from her office. She was
put into another dimension of the university which is the alumni office. Everybody was shocked with the news,
including me. Many of you will wonder
why I have included this in my article.
Well, to tell you honestly, this action
made by the administration should be
known by the students. This action
will surely affect both the teaching
and non-teaching staff. These people
will then affect the teaching-learning
processes taking place in the school.
To make this writing fair and
square, I went to our Administrative
Officer and asked him what are the
reasons why they replaced Maám
David. According to him, they make
Maám David as the Alumni Director
because they believed that Alumni
Office needs someone like Mrs. David. He also stated that people should
not create any issue regarding this reassignment in the working place. This
was just part of changes happening
in the University in achieving excellence.
Perhaps, these could only be
the things I can share to you. As a
writer, I am also bound with some restrictions. Let’s just hope for the best
regarding these actions.
Well, this would be all for
now but believe me; I still have a lot
to say. Before I close this episode, if
you have any reactions, comments,
or anything you want me to know, you
can get it to me through facebook or
twitter. Just follow @pj_version2. And
speaking of twitter, The Democrat

SPECIAL REPORT/FEATURES
STRESS: Paano Maiiwasan?
9
relihiyon, lahi, kultura, at iba pa.
at pag-iisip.
ating pamumuhay, ngunit may ilang
hakbang na maaring makatulong
upang mabawasan ang masamang
epekto nito. Narito ang ilan sa mga
paraan upang maiwasan o mabawasan
ang inyong stress:
Manatiling positibo. Magpokus sa mga magagandang bagay
tungkol sa sarili at kapaligiran. Ugaliing
maging positibo sa pag-iisip sa mga
hinahaharap at isiping malulutas rin
ang mga problema. Turuan ang sarili
na matanggap na may mga bagay na
sadyang ‘di mo kayang baguhin.
Iwasan ang mga taong
negatibo.
Mas
masarap kasama ang mga masayahin
at positibong tao.
Matutong humindi o umayaw.
Ayusin
ang
sariling
iskedyul:.Huwag pahirapan ang sarili
sa sapilitang paggawa ng maraming
bagay sa iisang araw. Matutong iklasipika ang mga gawain sa “gustong
gawin” at “kailangang gawin”. Sa ganitong paraan, may pagpapahalaga sa
mas importante ng gawain (want to-do
versus must-do).
magandang pangangatawan, nagpa-
pabuo ng kumpiyansa at tumutulong sa
pagpapahalaga ng sarili. Mag-ehersisyo at magsaya kasama ng kaibigan,
isang bata o mga alagang hayop.
Tumawa
nang
madalas
at libangin ang sarili. Ika nga nila,
“laughter is the best medicine.” Maari
librong makakapagbigay ngiti o inspirasyon.
Pahintulutan ang sariling
malungkot paminsan-minsan.
buhay. Hanggang sa uulitin UNCeans!

Report sa Boss NG PANGULO:
(SONA 2013)
by: Bap Bap
Maraming nag-abang sa
ikaapat na State Of the Nation Address (SONA) ng ating Pangulong
Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Mayaman man o mahirap ay tumutok at
transportasyon, enerhiya, turismo,
pangkapayapaan at iba pa.
Kaliwa’t kanan rin ang mga
binitawang hangarin at pangako
kanyang talumpati. Ayon kay Leonor
Briones, dating National Treasurer,
Pilipino. Ang bawat hamon sa atin ng
kapalaran ay nararapat na pasanin
ng bawat isa at bigyang solusyon ng
sama-sama.

USG prods Empowerment, Service and Leadership
by: Jane de Jesus
“It is not how you start it that
tells success, but rather, it is how you
end it that concludes something into
success,” says Ms. Karen Kay Caranza, USG President.
That is the quote that guides
her into every achievement and endeavor that she takes, and now, as the
head of the central student Organization of all colleges here in the university. She is known as Miss Pres, Ate K
and Mama K to the Execab members
and volunteers. Before she became
the president of the University Student
Government, she was first known as
she won the title of the 1st ABS-CBN
News Casting Competition. Still, after
what she had achieved, she remained
simple, kind, approachable and a
down-to-earth leader.
Ate K wants to push forth student participation in each universitywide activity, that’s why she prepared
year-long activities that would streng-
then the relationship among the departments and give true leadership service
to the entire college student in the
University. “OPLAN Tanungan: Balik
Eskwelahan,” General Orsem, Book
Launching Activity and Mass Induction
are some of the activities that was already spearheaded by the USG.
Upcoming event for this month
is the Mr. and Ms. Palaro 2013 with the
theme: Battle of the Musical Genres. It
entails genres like 60’s Rock and Roll,
80’s Pop, Latin Music, Classical, Heavy
Metal, Hip-hop Rap, RNB and K Pop
that will be represented by each department. There will be a Float Competition
also during the opening of the Intramurals on the 27th of August.
Ate K says, “The USG would
also initiate activities that will encapsulate student partnership and camaraderie, provide opportunities for social
responsibility, awareness and to help
venture and develop potential leaders
and talent among students.”
Other planned activities for this
year of USG focuses more on leadership training, service and comradeship
such as: Community Extension Service
(September); World Teacher’s Day Celebration and Walk of Fame: Parade of
Achievers (October); Lider Estudyante:
Convention on Campus Leadership
(November); Star ng Pasko: Gift Giving
Activity (December); and Bicol Literature Festival (February).
“Camaraderie reigns at USG,”
says one of my co-execab member.
A simple yet significant quote that is
genuine among us. Being part of the
group, we don’t just enjoy the privilege
and authority of being one, but we also
ascertain that we perform our duties
and responsibilities. Indeed, as part of
our leadership training, USG opens the
door to students who want to experience and expose themselves in the
art of leadership and service through
the Student Volunteers Program or “IVolunteer.” The students who joined
the program are designated into groups
that have different executive functions
with the ExeCab members as the Committee Heads for each group. As of
now, there are more than 30 volunteers
who joined the program.
The USG ExeCabs and Volunteers. There are 15 college students
from different departments that was
chosen to be part of the Executive department or commonly known as ExeCabs. All possessing the talent and
wisdom, Execabs, apart from their nuances, are bound together to perform a
function.
The USG Adviser, Mr. Salvador
Arcilla Jr. is a professor from the College of Business and Accountancy who
teaches Math and Infotech subjects.
Sir Buddy, as what Ate K calls him, was
once the adviser of CBA College Board
and had already been USG’s Adviser.

This type of fate makes me sick.
Yeah dude, the reality kills me inside.
However, the more the situations get
worse, the more I feel excited. The more
I become used to make it funny, the more
I get so jolly.
Monday is a bright morning
when I almost have to tumble down the
stairs carrying a bucket on one hand and
a towel on my shoulder. It suggests falling
in line with sleepyheads twirling their unkempt hair and afterwards seeing myself
rushing through the bathroom. Oh God!
This daily routine causes me itches. It’s
a five-minute shower while with consecutive knocks at the bathroom door when
your turn exceeds the period of bathing.
Then, it’ll be more disgusting if by 9AM,
you’ll get roasted by the smoke from
sooty mufflers and rays from the burning
rays of sun. I remembered how one of my
classmates asked me one morning, “Are
you sick? Why hadn’t you taken a bath
this morning, huh?” Then I answered
quickly, “Porke ba alang na tulos buhok

Sir Bong is indubitably a business tycoon. He has been the special

this, Sir Bong was able to hone his
skills as an educational manager. With
his experiences in the business world,
his business expertise is beyond question. He is currently the Chief Executive

Aside from business, he is also
known as an expert tennis player being
certified by the US Professional Tennis Association. He is also a certified

what my roommate whispered, “Hanep

okay. It’s a thumb up for me if he’ll keep
that monster’s mouth shut.
Wednesday is the day when the
campus corridors demand for stylish outfits. I could always laugh at myself thinking that I can never be fashionable as the
others do. Right here is a lanky guy having only six shirts and four faded jeans in
the closet. Oh God! Would it be proper

He also shares that in order for us to be

of urgency; and lastly, we need profitable competitive skills.
According to our first-rate official, we can expect from the school in
the next few years the aggressiveness
for enhancement and development of
our facilities. He envisions the University to have world-class electronic library,
improve our quadrangle, and build a
comfy auditorium. He also asks for the
assistance of the students and employees to help him in monitoring the development of the school.
His advice to all UNCeans is to
study hard; be active and learn to empathize since UNC will be undergoing
rigorous profitable change for the better

By 10pm, this’ll be followed with

Friday is the moment when my
nerves grow excited for both fear and enthusiasm. It always feels like winning a
bet for a Miami Heat game every time I
realize that I’m going home on this day.
Though I’m drenched in numerous equations during quizzes, it inspires me to
perform well when I know I got something
to smile about at the end of the day. Add
to that, I know I got my crush seated before me. Well, I love her long hair hanging
straight in front of me, but then, it bothers
me ‘cause it keeps me from glancing at
her paper, peering at her answers.
Nevertheless, for cool guys,
Friday means loafing around the main
streets with cute girls on their sides. It
means staying late at night in the arcade
or jamming with friends in a luxurious restaurant. But these are for cool guys only,
for hot men like me…dahhh! (Rolled
eyeballs) I’d rather enjoy the weekends
toning my abdominal muscles. Would
you mind me asking you to join me unhitch the water buffaloes? (Winks)
Yeah dude, after glaring at
the busy streets I’ll be finally off for the
misty grass in the meadows. After getting
sleepless nights for drawing the plates,
I’ll be enjoying a nap in a hammock by
the riverbank. After hearing the blares
of the landlady, I’ll be listening to my
mother’s sweet voice for the weekends.
After all, I might admire the nightlife in the
city but I’d always long for the dawn in
my hometown. The school where I first
learned to become the way I was before,
I am today and I will be tomorrow... how I
wish it wouldn’t change.
If I could only make every day
as Friday, I’d make Friday my forever…
at least…for five years, twelve months a
year, four weeks a month, seven days a

Lotto: Sagot nga ba sa Kahirapan?
Ginulat
ng
Philippine
Charity Sweeptakes Office ang
sambayanan sa kanilang anunsyo
sa pagtaas ng presyo ng tiket sa
ilang laro tulad ng 6/42, 6/45, 6/49
at Grand Lotto 6/55. Ngunit sa
kabila nito, marami pa rin ang mga
Pilipinong tumataya sa nasabing
laro.
lotto. Maaring ito na nga ang sagot
sa kahirapan ng karamihan, ngunit
by: Bap Bap
Ayon
kay
Archbishop
Emeritus
Oscar
Cruz,
ang
masuwerteng nagwagi sa lotto ay
may posibilidad na maging talunan,
dahil sa mga kaakibat na suliraning
kalakip ng kanyang pagkapanalo
tulad ng ibayong pag-iingat laban sa
mga masasamang loob. Bukod pa
rito ang katotohanang pag-aari ng
maraming tao ang salaping kanyang
napanalunan. Kung iisiping mabuti,
ang milyon-milyong piso ay mula sa
milyon-milyong Pilipinong tumataya
sa lotto --- malaking halaga na
nagpapakita na milyon-milyon din
ang nalululong sa bisyong tila naging
bahagi na ng ating kultura.
Sa kabilang banda, hindi
masasabing masama ang pagsusugal. Ayon sa Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Games of chance or
wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice. They become morally unacceptable when they deprive
someone of what is necessary to
provide for his needs and those of
others. The passion for gambling
risks being enslavement. Unfair wagers and cheating at games constitute grave matters unless the damage inflicted is so slight that the one
who suffers it cannot reasonably
consider it significant.”

paraan at pahalagahan sapagkat
ito ay nagmula sa ating pagsisikap
at pagtitiyaga.
Sa
pagsusugal,
hindi
tiyak ang pagkapanalo. Ngunit sa
pagsisikap, sa sandaling ibigay mo
ang lahat-lahat upang umasenso,
siguradong-sigurado ang iyong
pagkapanalo.
Dugong Buhay

“Dae dapat bakalon, dae
dapat ipabakal. It’s a noble cause”
Donation. Nagsimula ito dalawang
taon na ang nakakaraan. Hulyo ang
araw ng pagbibigay ng dugo o blood
donation day sa ating unibersidad
kanila.
Malaking tulong ito lalo na
kung lahat tayo ay makikiisa sa
nasabing programa. Hindi lang
sila ang pwede mong natulungan
dahil kahit ikaw mismo na nagbigay
ng dugo ay may benepisyo rin na
makukuha. Malalaman mo kung ano
ang type ng dugo mo, malalaman
mo pa kung malusog ka o kung
mababa ang iyong hemoglobin, at
kung mayroon kang nakakahawang
sakit tulad ng HIV, Hepa, at Malaria.
At sa pagbibigay ng dugo malilinis
nito at mapapalitan ng bago dahil
ang Bone Marrow ay magpoprodyus
ng bagong dugo para sa sirkulasyon
ng dugo sa ating katawan at higit
sa lahat maipagmamalaki mo ang
iyong sarili dahil may buhay kang
nailigtas.
Humigit kumulang ay nasa
dalawang daan at limampung yunit

UNC-Issue on selling:
Deal or No Deal?
Being the first University in
the Bicol Region, University of Nueva Caceres bears its remarkable
motto, “Non Scholae Sed Vitae”
(Not of School, But of Life). Clouded by some rumors that our University was said to have agreement
with other popular University, the
De La Salle University, the students
are confused. Allegedly, DLSU was
about to buy the goodwill and foundation of UNC by offering with certain high technological systems that
would help to improve the process
of transaction here in our University. In exchange to this, the name
that recognizes the identity of being
UNCeano and UNCeana would be
replaced with their name which obviously would change the tradition
and management system of UNC.
This kind of story is somewhat unknown to other groups in
our University. It is an alarming issue that our administration would
make a decision to give its power
and function to a hefty University
outside the Bicol Region. Also, the
control with respect to its business
transactions and other affairs would
no longer be solely handled by Bicolanos.
According to the statement
given by our Vice President for Administration, Dr. Eduardo H. Sison,
he confirmed that UNC is NOT for
sale. Hence, the rumor regarding
the said agreement does not support any legitimacy that UNC is to
be managed by any University predominantly DLSU. Our University
will remain as it is.
Looking ahead on what
may happen connotes a revolution.
There will be a big transformation
on the image carried by our University. From the standard practices that we are commemorating its
foundation for 65 years of existence
in the Bicol Region, we can say that

ginagamit. Marahil ay may
tinamaan agad ako, sana mayroon!
Maaaring ako ang magiging iba sa pahayagang ito;
ba?
Marahil
ay
maraming magbibigay ng reaksyon
sa kolum na ito. May magsasabing maaari naman akong
magsulat patungkol sa mga
makabago at lumang batas na
umiiral sa ating bansa, mga
programa at pasilidad sa loob
ng ating unibersidad, mga karanasan kasalukuyan panahon
o kaya naman ay tungkol sa
kalagayan ng mundo. Sa katunayan, napakaraming paksa
ang maaari kong talakayin,
our identity as UNCeano and UNCeana will still be imprinted by Red
and Gray touch in all attires. We can
still venerate the legacy of our beloved founder Dr. Jaime Hernandez
Sr. every month of July. We can still
feel the so called “Home of Bicolano Educators”. We will stand tall
and proud announcing to the world
that we are UNCeans. Remember,
we have our own name hoisting the
flag of Red and Gray since we are
one of the most popular schools
nationwide. We are not about to let
it be wrapped up with other distinctiveness.
As the recent affirmative
progress in our facilities and constructions, there are no indications
of renouncing the controls in management of our University. Thus,
UNC will remain as UNC. No one
can change it. The Greyhound will
continue to dominate the academe
with graceful power.
Espanyol at Latin.
manggagawa at karamihang
mag-aaral na Pilipino sa paggamit ng Ingles. Paumanhin sa
matatamaan, pero mas pinasanay sa atin ang wikang ito;

romance-drama for Filipinos. The
film shows how a man fails in the
face of temptation and how yielding to it can take away everything
he has deemed important in his
life.
As a cautionary tale, “No
Other Woman” succeeds at a
time when imperfect relationships abound, being a reminder
that every willful act has its consequences.

Hurray for John LloydSarah supporters! Being the top

the most successful Filipino film
to date in terms of box office revenues.
The film broke many boxoffice records in the history of
Philippine Cinema. It grossed a
whopping Php32.6 M on its opening day. It beats the action flick
“G.I. Joe: Retaliation” on its two
days frame gross over Php65M.
It reached the Php100M mark
on its fourth day of showing and
Php200M on its 8th day. After two
weeks, the film managed to reach
Php300M mark. Lastly, the film
topped the Philippine Box Office
for four consecutive weeks, becoming the first Filipino film to do
so.
“It Takes A Man and A
Woman” tackles the story of forgiveness, second chances and
real definition of true love.
That would be all for now.

Even though they replace it with
50’s or 100’s of its kind, the difference they could make is too
far compared to that of a single
old one.
The problem of the
city in terms of traffic is still
bearable and would pose
minimal attention if only there
is an adequate number of traffic
enforcers placed on each of the
road intersections.
I think that the best solution for this is to create a rough estimate of the range that the road
widening program might occupy,
for four lanes that is, and plant a
new tree on the spot where they
could grow and stand proud so
that when the time comes that it
is inevitable for the old trees to
be cut, they are mature enough
to replace the trees torn.
As what I can remember,
it is the DPWH themselves that
said ‘it takes years to grow a tree
but only takes a minute to cut
it’. Well then, if this is the case,
they can now start to plant a new
one in place of the trees about
to be cut in the near future. Instead of wasting their time and
fund establishing fun runs and
the like, why don’t they just plant
trees and raise the environmental awareness of the people.
UNC PALARO 2013:
Will you take ashes or trophies?

Green magnates, Yellow

Red dominions, Brown bullets,
Violet laws or Gray papers, which
competitive college will take the
torment dose of defeat in ashes?
Who among these colleges will
acclaim the total supremacy for
the shining trophies of absolute
triumph?
As August 27 is fast
approaching, each and every
college of the University of Nueva
Caceres is now amidst of drastic
preparations, intensive plans and
full blast practices for the most
awaited UNC PALARO 2013 that
will make the Gymnasium once
again lively with deafening shouts
and burning cheers of UNCeans.
For the seven days of long
fun games and sports events, the
University assures that this year’s
Palaro will be one of the most
exciting, attractive and enjoyable
physical development for both
students’ development and colleges’
camaraderie because of its new
system and additional games.
Bracket
System in
UNC
Palaro ‘13
A new bracket system in all
colleges for both regular and fun
games will be used by the University Sports Development Office in this
year’s UNC PALARO. There will be
two brackets, the A which is composed of CBA, EA and Educ while
the B is composed of Nursing, CS,
AS, CJE, Law and Graduate Studies.
This kind of system was
made through the intensive study
and with the efforts of Mr. Antonio
H. Sison Jr, Chairperson of Sports
Development and Mr. Macario
Gontang Jr., Assistant Chairman of
Sports Development. It is in the rule
which explains that those colleges
having above 400 students population will be categorized in bracket A
and will compete for regular games
among themselves. On the other
hand, those colleges with below
400 student population will be categorized in bracket B will do the
same with the former.
With this new system, according to Mr. Roel Rosales, Chairperson for UNC Palaro fun games,
there will be two winners for basketball and volleyball (men and
women) coming from both bracket
A and B. Thus, this system is just
part of the innovation at the same
time experimentation of the University to provide an avenue for more
productive and strong participation
of all colleges.
“We are experimenting this
format to cut-down the events and
give opportunity to other colleges
to win the top places in the regular
games,” Rosales said.
Moreover, if this new system will become effective and successful, the said office will adopt it
for the upcoming years. (Angeles R.
Basquiňa, Jr.)
The UNC Palaro composed
of two major sports events, the
regular games – basketball and
volleyball, both men and women and
the fun games- modified marathon,
three-point shooting, free throw
shooting, kick baseball, modified
dodge ball, soccer, patintero,
open chess, 4-man relay, Frisbee
catching and 3-man volleyball.
