Weyerhaeuser Canada
CANADIAN LUMBER
The Company operates six sawmills in BC’s Southern Interior, three sawmills in Alberta, and one in Saskatchewan. Combined annual capacity of all sawmills exceeds one billion board feet. They employ 1,400 people.
Lumber products include North American construction and appearance grades,
[ILLEGIBLE WORD] grade for Japan, Machine-Stress-Rated, and Performance-Rated lumber for the truss industry. Sales to all markets are managed by the Kamloops Trading Centre, supported by the Weyerhaeuser Distribution Network.
STURDI-WOOD: ENGINEERED PANEL PRODUCTS
Sturdi-Wood, an engineered oriented-strand board product using aspen libre, is manufactured at three processing facilities in Alberta: Drayton Valley, Edson, and Slave Lake.
The combined production of these mills exceeds 800 million sq.ft. (3/8-inch basis) annually. Sturdi-Wood is marketed in Canada, the United States, and overseas. The business is based in Edmonton, and employs about 550 people.
REGIONAL SALES
Distribution and service to retail and industrial customers in Canada is provided by a network of six regional sales centres and four satellites. About 20 percent of Weyerhaeuser
Canada’s solid wood production is sold in the Canadian market, with the balance exported to the
United States and overseas.
To assure Canadian customers of a wide selection of quality products, sales outlets supplement their own product lines with material purchased from other manufacturers.
FOREST STEWARDSHIP
Our goal is to be the industry leader in stewardship on public forest land - judged by our employees, customers, communities, and shareholders. As stewards, we manage with regard for the rights of other stakeholders, and for the long-term health of forest eco-systems.
This vision of stewardship encompasses the full range of resource values: soil, water, timber for commercial use; habitat for wildlife, birds and fish; recreation; range; preservation of unique or special areas; and sensitivity to the visual impact of our operations.
TIMBERLANDS
Forest harvesting and renewal on public land is managed by a Timberlands group in each province and at each facility. Most logging, hauling and reforestation is done by independent contractors. We operate a seed orchard in Saskatchewan and a seedling nursery in BC.
Species harvested in BC include Englemann spruce, lodgepole pine, Interior Douglas fir, white pine, hemlock, balsam, ponderosa pine and Western larch. In Alberta, soft-wood species include lodgepole pine, white and black spruce, and balsam fir; aspen (a hardwood) is also an important commercial species. In Saskatchewan, major species include jack pine, white spruce and aspen.
KAMLOOPS PULP
Kamloops Pulp began operation in 1965. Thorough expansion and upgrading, the mill became recognized as one of the finest world-scale, internationally competitive mills in North
