Section 8H Overhead Steel Insulated Doors
1. SCOPE
The work of this section includes all labor, materials, apparatus, appliances,
equipment, transportation, etc., including but not necessarily limited to the following:
Steel Overhead Doors (insulated)
Track
Hardware
Weatherstripping
All other miscellaneous items related to furnishing and installing steel overhead
doors.
2. MATERIALS
Steel overhead doors shall be, “Low Clearance” configuration steel-insulated
industrial doors. Doors shall be heavy duty construction similar to Thermacore 591
Series, as manufactured by the Overhead Door Co.
Doors to be as manufactured by Overhead Door Co., Raynor Manufacturing Co.,
Wayne Dalton Corp, or approved equal.
3. CONSTRUCTION
Sections will be roll-formed, hot dipped, galvanized steel exterior, no less than .016''.
Sections will be manufactured by a continuous foamed-in-place polyurethane
lamination process resulting in a metal sandwich of homogeneous polyurethane
insulation. Sections will have a nominal thickness of 1 5/8'' and will incorporate an
EPDM rubber thermal break to prevent heat or cold conductivity. The shiplap design
will have rounded water channels.
Insulation will be a rigid foamed-in-place polyurethane core free of CFC’s and will
be fully encapsulated in nonpermeable materials to prevent loss of thermal efficiency
over time. The insulation will have a certified section R-Value of 13.33, U-Value of
0.75 when tested in accordance with ASTM C236-87.
End Stiles will be 16 gauge steel.
Hinges and fixtures will be galvanized steel. Full floating ball bearing rollers will
have hardened steel races. Roller sizes will be adequate for design requirements and
limitations.
Track: shall be 2'' for all doors.

Tracks shall be zinc-coated rolled steel, shaped to receive rollers and securely
attached to jamb by means of steel brackets or continuous angles.
Springs to be standard duty oil tempered wire torsion springs.
Locks shall be for operation from inside only. No cylinders are required.
Weatherstrip between sections will be tube seals fitted inside every joint. Bottom
weatherstrip will be an EPDM rubber bulb-type strip. Head and jambs to be provided
with weatherstripping per manufacturer’s standard details.
Finish to be two coat baked-on polyester. Exterior color to be white. Interior color to
be white.
4. OPERATION
Doors to be manually operated.
5. INSTALLATION
Provide all bolts, plates, mounting angles, etc., necessary to erect doors on the
channel frames, and/or masonry walls. This supplier shall review all drawings in
order to familiarize himself with conditions to which his doors are to be mounted.
The overhead door installer shall be responsible for all control wiring relating to door
operation and shall furnish all devices needed.
6. SHOP DRAWINGS
Furnish four (4) sets of shop drawings for approval.
7. GUARANTEE
Satisfactory operation of these doors, including materials and workmanship, shall be
guaranteed for a period of one year.
