MOVIE QUOTES OF THE WEEK (from same movie)
In acknowledgment of the effect teachers have on their students’ lives,
and because we thank them for their dedication.
“However much we stumble, it is a teacher's burden always to hope, that with learning, a
boy's character might be changed. And, so, the destiny of a man.”
“A great teacher has little external history to record. His life goes over into other lives.
These men are pillars in the intimate structure of our schools. They are more essential
than its stones or beams, and they will continue to be a kindling force and a revealing
power in our lives.”
Guests
Guests today included:
Bob Hojnacki guest of Mike Pida
Mary Boyle & Alex Gaudett-both of NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC HS

Citizen Volunteers Train for Emergencies – New Class Starting
You don’t always see them training or helping, but they are there and ready - Community
Emergency Response Teams (CERT)
The Fairfield Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was started in 2007 and
has grown to over 60 trained members. The team is trained in accordance with a state
mandated curriculum which includes disaster medical response, search and rescue,
disaster psychology, emergency preparedness, sheltering and terrorism. In addition, team
members are taught the Incident Command System which is utilized by emergency
responders throughout the state so they can seamlessly assist in response efforts.
The Fairfield CERT has been activated for various reasons including traffic control and
sheltering people and pets. However, the skills they have can be utilized in many
different ways during a major emergency or disaster, depending on the needs identified
by town emergency management.
Citizen volunteers are being recruited for the next Fairfield CERT training class which
will start on Saturday, March 3, 2012. The class is free of charge and will be held at the
Fire Training Center in Fairfield on all Saturdays in March from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those
successfully completing the 30-hour course and other requirements are eligible to join the
team. For information or to register for the training, contact Norma Peterson at
citizencorps@optonline.net. Application forms can also be picked up at the Fairfield Fire
Department, 140 Reef Road, Fairfield, CT. Class size is limited and team members must
be age 18 or older.
Art Grob advised that he had extra Rotary lapel pins available for $2.00.
Bill Llewellyn:
Announced that he is handing out Save the Date/Invitations Cards for the Celebrity
Luncheon on March 12th. Contact Bill if you need more invitations;
Steve Elworthy: Announced good news to report on our plans for the joint programming
between our Rotary Club and Fairfield University's Applied Ethics Program, at the new
University Bookstore in downtown Fairfield:
Wednesday April 11, 2012 Breakfast Meeting on Ethics in our Community
This will be the breakfast meeting in our continuing series of meetings co-hosted by
Rotary and Fairfield University. Thus this series will bring in people whose experiences
can be a model of "best practices" for how small businesses and other community groups
exercise ethical leadership in the Fairfield area. Our April 11, 2012 program speakers will
be Fairfield Police Chief Gary McNamara & Fairfield Fire Chief Richard Felner, who
will discuss emergency preparedness and the duties, obligations and opportunities of
same.
Tim Russell, Co-Chair along with Kevin Lesko of this year’s Celebrity Luncheon, at
which the speaker will be Howard (H.T.) Owens (President of National Geographic
Television), is seeking SPONSORS of the event. In addition each club member is
requested to invite as many guests as they can because there is success ($$$) in numbers.
We can fit up to 450 attendees at the luncheon, so please don’t be shy or stingy about
inviting guests. Each member should invite between 10-20 guests. The more the merrier
($$$) for our Foundation!
